While its looks may have aged, its sense of humour and style is as fresh today as the day it first rolled out in cinemas. In short, it's pure escapist magic.

It's still good if you're looking for a bizzare and outlandish action flick with small bits of both intentional and unintentional comedy.
This movie is 80s action films in a nutshell. Its cheesy, loud ,and hilarious. Its a movie that while convoluted is a great watch none the less. Kurt Russel really bring his A game to this film which is something I did not expect. It makes this film a simple watch that while not ground breaking is a fun, new, and unforgettable experience.
Big Trouble in Little China starts out at a rather frantic pace...and never lets up. You get gunfights, martial arts, magic, explosions, and everything else you expect from an over-the-top 80s action-adventure flick in the first half-hour alone, and it just keeps on coming. But that's not all. You also get one of Kurt Russels absolute best performances of the era as well.
If you are at all into insane action-adventure outings from our favorite decade, this should be on the top of your watchlist. Highly Recommended!!!!!
To be honest, I might be a bit biased as this movie was one of my favorite movies growing up. One of just a couple of movies I have owned in just about any video format there is in fact. But Big Trouble is really fun...I promise.
Haha! This reminds me my childhood. Very simple, unrealistic, soft... 80's popcorn movie. I guess that many of here have some kind of nostalgic love with this one. Here, in Brazil, many of us have :D.
John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China" is a long way from such Carpenter horror classics like "The Thing" or "Halloween". This movie has a cheap B-movie feel to it which I think is intentional. Kurt Russell is the hero here but he's got some hilariously stupid things to say as truck driver Jack Burton. He really ends up saving everyone despite himself. Kim Cattrell also stars but her storyline is actually unnecessary she could have been written out entirely. This is really a fun movie packed with action and funny gags. The bad '80s music is a distraction and some of the effects are corny. It gives a dated feel to an otherwise entertaining show.

The story follows cocky, loud mouth truck driver Jack Burton as he gets entangled in a world of Chinese mysticism and dark magic while trying to help a friend rescue his kidnapped fiancée. Kurt Russell leads the cast and delivers an outstanding performance that’s incredibly fun. And Carpenter does a masterful job at slowly drawing the audience into a fantasy world and filling it with rich and colorful characters. Additionally, the score (co-written by Carpenter) is especially well done; perfectly capturing the eerie and mystical tone of the film. Mixing satire with fantasy and action, Big Trouble in Little China is an immensely fun and entertaining cult comedy.
Very weird movie. Seems like it would be better suited to a video game rather than a movie.
I still don’t know how I had never saw this film previously but I finally got around to it. I’m not sure it’s quite as good as the hype built up around it but it is a fun action filled watch.
Kurt Russel in his prime and at his best. So corny it is funny - there is no pretense here.
With an excellent dash of likable characters, funny jokes, incredibly impressive visual effects, and a couple of genuine WTF moments, John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China" is one of his finest works.
Somehow Road House had a baby with the very campiest of 1960s Hong Kong, and John Carpenter signed on to direct (plus compose the soundtrack). Wildly entertaining, and self-aware enough to embrace the sheer lunacy of mysically-powered gang warfare amidst the nooks and crannies of Chinatown, it's no wonder this would become such a cult classic.
Kurt Russel is dead-perfect as Jack Burton, the brash, headstrong, somewhat confused would-be hero who doesn't realize he's actually the sidekick. As one might expect, things get carried away somewhere between the first trap elevator and the second (must've been a deal at the villainous super-mart this week) but that's actually for the best: Big Trouble is most in its element when it casts aside mere storyline concerns, flies off the handle and embraces its ridiculous side.
The plot is simplistic and the fight scenes aren't all that great - too many jump cuts and blunt-handed effects - but the mood is a direct hit and it's certainly never tame. When it comes to the final confrontation, it's more about quick reflexes than martial arts anyway. A board-dumb classic of the bombastic '80s action scene, and one of my favorite empty climaxes ever. Here's hoping Hollywood understands what made it work so well when they push out the impending remake.

Got its own cool visual style. I think it has aged well, considering it could have aged really poorly with all the 80s uniqueness. It's still fun and cheesy. Good music...... I just read that a remake starring the rock is possibly being made. not sure I'm looking forward to the idea of that.
30 year anniversary of its release today.

It's cheesy, it's corny, but it is entertaining. Kurt Russell is great. The movie has a real unique look once things start happening.
