Good, but bordering on after-school special territory. James Mason felt really miscast–watching him toss a football around is like watching a fish try to line dance. What saved this movie for me was the beautiful Cinemascope presentation and its use of space in the widescreen format, as well as the ending. I was really surprised to see the main character have a psychotic break, given the time period, and it was quite shocking how dark things got. It was decent, overall.

Typical mandated 50s BS happy ending. But what came before it's good.
Mason miscast over two ball throwing scenes? GTFO. He was perfect.
