Black Adam is a film that entertains well. Casting The Rock as the DC anti-hero is a success. The actor is perfect in the role of this character. The script has a few too many flaws, the direction is not always excellent, but the fight scenes are choreographed and directed well. The only flaw of these scenes is the CGI which is not always perfect. The characters on the whole are well written. I found Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate a great character, Hawkman impressed me, I liked every member of Adrianna's family, but i hated Atom Smasher by Noah Centineo, a very idiot and useless character. Cyclone is uselles too, but not annoying. I didn't like very well the large mass of ralenty in her scenes, but also in every scene where ralenty technique is used, so this remember me Zack Snyder...
If you go to the cinema tonight, or tomorrow or an another day, you have to sit untill the end credits. There's an incredible post credit scene!!! - MG
Way better than many critics have suggested, this has a decent story, great visuals, and a great cast of actors. I'm not really a fan of Dwayne but he foregoes his usual eye brow rising schtick here and delivers a decent performance.
My biggest complaint is that it's hamfisted, but so what? An action movie embracing its best parts and just rolling with the punches instead of being needlessly long trying to explain some of these transitions and motivations? Sign me up for more of that. Black Adam embraces what it is and just dives in head first. It's heavy handed and over the top, and that's hardly a glaring flaw in a super hero movie compared to all of the other things people traditionally get wrong.
It doesn't sacrifice its strengths to satisfy critics, but I think those critics forget why we go to the movies in the first place. The fact that WW1984 is well received and this is not shows the hot mess of priorities these people place on films. This cast was great. The action was fun. The story was straight forward and not bogged down. It was fun.
Let me repeat that, it was fun. And I want more of that.
It certainly delivers on the action pretty much the whole runtime is non-stop over the top action. It's a lot of stupid fun but if you're looking for something logic and compelling this is not your movie. The dialogue is often cringe and the overuse of slow-motion sequences can be off putting. There's lots of comedy thrown in but it doesn't always land. The action sequences are mostly great but sometimes misplaced and the CGI has it's flaws.
The Rock did a good job at portraying a charismatic and layered Black Adam. He feels very much overpowered and unstoppable I have to say the thought of having him go up against Superman is exciting. Although i'm not convinced this was a good origin story/introduction. By the end of the movie i'm still not entirely sure who the man underneath the suit is at the core. I mean we got some flashbacks of 5000 years ago but he just lacks depth in the present. My favorite character was Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan) I hope we get more of him. Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) was a great addition. Cyclone and Atom Smasher add nothing to the story really.
It's quite surprising that in the same year WB gives us something as layered and serious as The Batman and Black Adam, a corny, cliché and very simple action flick. Not that they need to be compared It's ok to do something different but I was prepared for a certain level of quality that represents the company.
I was tolerating the sillyness of the movie until the last third of the movie it just got downhill with the main villain... A bit too much sillyness for me. That being said I probably would of loved it if I was a kid.
I don't get it - it seems written by a teenager just to be a collection of one liners, explanatory scenes and speeches for even the slowest viewers, wannabe cool moments, explosions, unnecessary destruction, overuse of CGI and characters who are there just as plot fillers: the overly-enthusiastic-always-chatty-annoying teenager whose only point is to act carelessly and bring the story forward, the nice and nerdy brother, the smart doctor, the flirty youngsters...
I don't watch these kind of movies for subtleties and I take into account a fair amount of suspension of disbelief but this was just uninspired stuff, half of which is fights and chases dragged and dragged and dragged, all caused by people seeing the world in black and white just for the sake of reaching the 2 screen hours milestone (you know like people making dumb decisions in horror movies).
The Suicide Squad had the usual DC elements in an original and captivating mixture.
This is a generic blockbuster, in the worst meaning of the word
Honestly it surpassed my expectations, Black Adam is an action packed movie even though the Justice Society is a bit weak in it. I liked the movie overall, loved Pierce Brosnan as Dr Fate and the twist in the story. Simply a bad ass movie and I can't wait until I see Black Adam with Shazam.
Solid 7 out of 10. It's definitely better then the Justice League & Wonder Woman 1984 but not better then Aqua Man or Wonder Woman or Shazam
Stay for the post credit scene you will love it and there is only one scene
Wow this is just terrible. 10yrs in the making? No depth to the characters or story.
Much better than the initial and critic reviews are making it out to be. The action was fun to watch, the sound design of the fights and music was great. The story was a bit lacking but there were quite a few emotional and impactful scenes, I'd recommend watching it.
The film offers nothing new, but it's not as bad as reviews made it to be.
It comes with familiar tropes, even similar punchlines and comebacks ("careful with the words you choose" ala The Dark Knight). It's filled with dashing CGI visuals and intense slo-mo reminiscent of Snyder's styles, but lacking the dramatic buildup and especially suffer from tonal inconsistency where one grim situation is overshadowed by quips and sarcastic comebacks. In an almost mediocre attempt to mimic MCU - which in itself is already mediocre - it almost feels like a carbon copy of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad or Peacemaker.
However as a standard blockbuster it fits the exact cliche. Nothing serious to talk or think about. Just something to enjoy while you gulp your drinks and mash that popcorn, interspersed with disbelief remarked by your friends or family members.
The biggest crime this film has made is its excessive 2.5 hours, along with the unsatisfying red herring when it was revealed that the Big Bad was the real enemy all along. The film spends too much time in the conflict between Justice Society and Black Adam, which ends as nothing anyway. The full resolve of Black Adam to finally submit himself to surrender is immediately contradicted by the imminent danger of Sabbac, which resulted in leaving Dr. Fate's motivational speech with no impact and even kinda silly as the one who convinced Adam to surrender was Justice Society themselves.
Is it the worst movie in 2022? I've seen worse this year, including those with big hype like MCU films (which in my opinion warrants more scrutiny - what's the point of beating the underdogs like Black Adam?). But am I going to revisit this film? Not anytime even in a bit far future.
Well, I liked it, what they say, how they say it, the fights, let it be daytime. post-credits scene
The worst part about this movie is probably the absurd amount of slow motion scenes and that's about it. That's why it doesn't get a 10.
The plot is simple and yet it works. The characters are very well built and easy to care for. The humor is perfectly done and placed and it doesn't break the pace of the movie, which also doesn't slow down at any point.
Black Adam is brutal considering it's a PG13 movie, and it could easily be rated R.
Now if you are expecting to find a villain you won't find one. You also won't find a hero.
Way better than the critics
A very good movie. It may have some small problems with its villain and some lack lf character explanation but it is still solid. Dwayne Johnson is perfect in the role of black adam!
First of all, credit on the CGI effects, some impressive work and made the action more fun and entertaining. All cast did well with they roles and loved the sense of humour. A decent DC movie.
I wish I could give a fractional score, because it does deserve more.
The CGI is a bit campy, it's intentionally campy, it overuses slow-motion effects to artistically give the same feeling of it being a comic. It is undoubtedly intentional but is a bit disjointed in action scenes as a result.
It's also a bit long and it definitely could have used a reduced edit. And once again DC underwhelms in the villain. But it's good, it's not great, it's just good.
You can definitely tell that Warner Brothers made it, they keep trying to capture a sense of Guardians of the Galaxy by over-licensing music once again -- but the production tones that down despite some ham-fisted use. The licensed songs only fit for comedic additions.
And it's not Spider-Man but I will say the comedic timing and quips were pretty good, most of them got a laugh, the running gags weren't too much over the top and generally pleasant. I haven't rewatched a DC movie in some time, and I will rewatch this.
It's not as good as Shazam, but it's kind of on par with Aquaman - over the top CGI and campy but coherent and enjoyable.
Incredibly uninspired.
I haven’t seen one of these in a while, but even I noticed that a lot of its visuals and ideas are directly lifted from better comic book movies.
And it’s ugly, really ugly. Way too heavy on the generic orange/teal color palette, way too much slomo, not a single ounce of tangibility.
They should've just gone all in with making the artifice a stylistic choice, make it look like 300 or something. The hybrid of stylized CGI noise with a world that’s supposed to look at least somewhat real doesn’t work.
The movie itself will have lost any sense of relevancy within a couple of weeks. Yes, despite ‘changing the hierarcy of power in the DC Universe’, there’s not much of interest going on here.
I just feel bad for Dwayne Johnson, the man clearly has a talent that suits this type of film, but he’s stuck in a time where adrenaline driven action filmmaking is at its absolute blandest. This needed way more bite and edge in order to cover up for the basic premise. It’s such a shrug of a movie as is.
3.5/10
Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate...... this pleases me!
With reviews like “anti-entertaining”, I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised! Granted it isn’t anything new but it’s run-of-the-mill fare done well. Supremely watchable. Ties into the larger DCEU including Peacemaker in believable fashion. The only part I was sad about was the death of a very interesting character so soon after their introduction. Hope they are brought back in some form later.
This might be one of the worst things I've ever seen. I was going to write a whole breakdown of what didn't work and why, but then I realised that this thing isn't worth a single extra moment of my time. I'm merely here to recommend that you don't watch this.
Just coming out of the Madrid premiere. Mmm… I really wanted to like it, but I’m afraid it’s messy at times and many lines are cringeworthy. There’s way too much exposition in the first act. It’s supposed to be brutal but they make the constant joke that Adam kills indiscriminately and in the end the joke gets kinda tiring. But it’s true that Dwayne Johnson was born to play Black Adam. My favorite was Doctor Fate and even Hawkman, despite his obnoxious black and white view of heroes and villains. I don’t even know why he’s the leader of the JSA. But his wings are something else!
Cyclone and Atom Smasher… a bit forgettable.
The post credit scene… it’ll make everything worthwhile.
A fun entertaining superhero movie. Was it so hard to make one? Not really original or groundbreaking but who expects that from a superhero movie? The job here is to be fun and break stuff. And here this movie works. Rock is excellent as always and the supporting cast was also quite good. Just they should stop dressing the supposed "smart" characters as clowns. But it was not so distracting, so it was fine.
I really have to thank all the "professional" critics here. Without their rave recommendation (low scores) I would not even bother to watch this. Great job there.
In a world where Marvel movies often tarnish their plots with silly and tasteless jokes, it's welcome to see products from the DC Comics cinematic universe that don't waste their time with them. And Black Adam is a clear example of this.
Which is a bit of a shock considering that its star and producer, Dwayne Johnson, is a regular in such family films. However, Black Adam is brutal, bloody and raw, and yet it doesn't dwell on those details in order to appeal to the widest possible audience. It's a good balance.
Overall the film is excellent: the locations and sets, not to mention the pacing, are top notch. It also offers a good amount of canonical comic book characters in a quick and generous way with fight scenes that you've come to expect in films like this. The BSO is powerful, however the choice of popular songs for certain montages breaks that atmosphere and I consider it a very poor choice.
A different film for a different character - oh, and there's a post-credits scene!
It was very similar to The Suicide Squad but better in my opinion, mainly because of The Rock and because the CGI in this movie was very impressive. It's not a masterpiece but it's a classic action movie, kind of like the type that The Rock is usually in but in the DC superhero kind. The story isn't very good but I still enjoyed it because of the action scenes, the effects, the characters and the acting.
They must know this is crap right? There is no way they thought any of this is decent … right?
Fun movie to watch. Dwayne was excellent as Black Adam. Pierce Brosnan stole the show if you ask me.
You'll love the mid credits scene. If you're a fan, it WILL blow your mind! LET'S GOOOOO DCEU! :D Super excited now!
"My powers are not a gift. They're a curse, born out of rage."
I had a blast watching this in theaters. This was very bombastic, with a lot of cool action, but also telling a heartfelt story about Black Adam.
It was very inventive how they depicted Black Adam's origin, keeping it a mystery up near the end. Dwayne Johnson was born to play Black Adam. He steals every scene he's in playing a badass anto-hero.
Now the Justice Society, while they didn't have a backstory in the film, they each had prequel comics detailing their backstory. Which I really dig, these comics are meant to sell comics, after all. Might as well get the audience to buy the comics to get into some great stories (they are also currently doing this with The Flash). The movie actually starts right where the Doctor Fate prequel comic ends, so I don't think it's apographa. Doctor Fate played by Pierce Brosnan was a standout. He really put his all into this character. Aldis Hodge was also a standout as Hawkman.
The surprise villain of Black Adam, Sabbac, was a really good addition to the Shazam! mythos. If the wizards have their own champion, why doesn't the seven deadly sins have one? Sabbac is the answer to that. Doctor Fate's battle with him was really cool.
Overall, this wasn't as bad as the critics were saying, I had a fun time! Be sure to stay for the mid-credits scene!
Enjoyed the movie overall. It's nice to see an antihero just destroy random guys. Story wasn't bad and helped move the movie to its endpoint.
The Rock did a really good job as the character. I mean he's believable mainly because he's not wearing a rubber suit. I'm mean he's built like a brick shit house and it works for the character.
Just sit back and enjoy the movie and you won't think about some small things. Like, he's been away for 5,000 years but speaks the current language.
More like Blah Kadam pppfffrrrtttttt
While Marvel tells too many origin stories for many, DC likes to throw several heroes into one film and not introduce any of them properly. What already went wrong with Justice League, the first version more so than the second, goes straight to the wall with Black Adam. Both films commit the same mistakes of wanting a lot and implementing little narratively, but where Justice league at least still had the better-known heroes of DC's first series to fall back on, Black Adam has more of the heroes from the bench. This circumstance makes the lack of introduction of the individual characters stand out even more and the completely hectic and let's call it confusing action also doesn't make a good film out of Black Adam.
If you had hoped that one of the basic themes of colonialism or western oppression and interference, which resonates from the beginning, would give the film depth, you will unfortunately be disappointed. Shallow would still be too deeperly a term to describe the realisation of the theme in the film. Also, the character of Black Adam, who is probably supposed to be an anti-hero, is also somehow just anti in his portrayal by the Rock.
Overall, the film is honestly not even worth the length of this review.
P.s. The love story really seems as if someone said after completion in the writers room: "Fuck we forgot the love story" Then they quickly gave two unimportant characters an unnecessary love story and thus somehow made the characters even more irrelevant. Sounds strange, but that's how it is.
Oof. I'm a big DC fangirl and this was a real struggle for me. An uninspiring and awkward first half into a weak second that couldn't do a thing to redeem it. There were a handful of beautifully shot action sequences but overall it was ham-fisted and disjointed. Once again a DCEU film feels like someone with a split personality. Flitting between leaning into the wonderful darkness of DC and wanting to appeal to the simple Marvel masses with humour. Go one way or the other. This in-between doesn't work. Nor does the bad editing and dubbing moments either. Overall it felt unfinished and odd.
A pleasure to see Sarah Shahi on the big screen and I hope this means bigger things for her in the future but this film... Was not a winner for me.
Only redeeming thing? The wonderful Henry Cavill as Superman once again. Saving me from this awful cinema visit.
I'm tired bullshit movie from Marvel and DC. They are taking us for granted. What a basic plot and execution.
Dwayne Johnson's latest film, "Black Adam", claims to change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe, but it is unlikely that it will live up to this promise. The movie tells the story of Teth Adam, a slave who was bestowed with god-like powers 5000 years ago and seeks justice born from rage after being released from prison. He is confronted by the Justice Society, a group of heroes that includes Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone, and a group of people who seek a crown that grants god-like powers.
Despite its heavy exposition and comic book lore, "Black Adam" manages to entertain with its action sequences and character interactions. Johnson's natural charisma carries the performance and makes it hard to dislike his character, even though he is an antihero. The chemistry between Brosnan and Hodge as Dr. Fate and Hawkman is strong and adds to the movie's enjoyment, while the sidelining of Atom Smasher and Cyclone is a missed opportunity. On the other hand, Sabongui's character, Amon, is not a highlight and is involved in some of the movie's worst scenes. The dialogue is rough and some of the CGI is lacking, but it is still a fun watch overall. While the movie is not perfect, it delivers enough to be considered entertaining, but it is unlikely to change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe.
First of all, it’s not bad. There were a lot of good actors. The movie was fun to watch; if you enjoy superhero movies, you’ll probably enjoy this. This movie was a lot better than the reviews made it out to be. The cinematography was pretty good as well.
That said, I wouldn’t call this movie ~good~. It was a very stereotypical superhero movie. None of the characters were very fleshed out and the story wasn’t amazing; it all felt rushed.
Tolerable is as good as it gets
I don't understand how this was well received by the audience. It's as awful as Morbius. There are some entertaining moments but it doesn't hold up as a two hours long movie. Also, it's impossible to take The Rock seriously.
meh except post generic scene
The good: Plot was ok, fight scenes were actually enjoyable, character development was alright. And the tie in into the larger DC universe was actually well handled.
The bad: Slow-Mo was way too much...all over the place.
Also, I feel Dwayne Johnson was limited in this movie. I didn't really feel it as a typical Dwayne Johnson movie, it felt as if he was limited in his creativity. Could've been better.
CGI too was a bit mediocre
In all, 6.9/10, rounded up by 0.1 (explains the 7) Not a really really GOOD movie, but it did well not to fall into the box office disaster bombs of recent years by the DCEU...
In all honesty, I was anticipating the same old rubbish. Neither the teaser nor the people involved left me feeling optimistic. To my surprise, I got a rather well-crafted superhero film that, despite its imperfections, is still superior to the vast bulk of its genre’s offerings in recent years. Coming from the DCEU, which has produced some of the most inconsistent content in recent memory, and starring Dwayne Johnson as the lead, who, apart from his charm and muscular physique, isn’t exactly known for his acting talents. In many respects, “Black Adam” had more going against it than for it.
Nevertheless, thanks to director Jaume Collet-Serra, writers Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, and a supporting ensemble that makes the most out of a script that is at best passable, “Black Adam” manages to stand out from the recent run of lacklustre comic book films. It manages to establish a broader universe without appearing forced while introducing some new concepts to the genre. “Black Adam’s” most distinctive characteristic is the way it refuses to settle for any clear-cut morality. It all adds up to a film that succeeds more often than not.
In 2019, when the Infinity Saga ended, you couldn’t have convinced me that I’d be more interested in the DCEU than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But fast-forward three years, and that is precisely what has happened; DCEU has produced some good content during that time (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker). The future seems bright for the DCEU!
Rating: 6.9/10 (Good, It Gets the Job Done, Slightly Flawed)
Might be the first time that I have fallen asleep watching a superhero movie.
Dwayne Johnson is the most wooden and one-note he's ever been. I don't see the character, only the Rock. The editing is on the same level as Bohemian Rhapsody; it's so bad.
Dr. Fate was cool though.
Terrible! I have no words to describe it, just terrible.
"Sometimes the world doesn’t always need a white knight. Sometimes it needs something a little darker."
tru.
I’ve seen some bad superhero movies, but this is the worst. The Rock has been hyping this for a decade and the result was a Michael-Bay-paced series of confounding action sequences, a plot that celebrated being confusing, and directing that seemed fragmented from the first moments of the movie to the last.
When it comes to the films of Dwayne Johnson, it is becoming increasingly hard for me to care anymore. In his more recent films, he always plays the same character. This continues in "Black Adam", a film that truly is the definition of mediocrity. The basis is a by-the-numbers superhero plot. There are zero surprises.
As usual, Johnson is okay in the lead role, but he's not doing anything special. Only Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate deserves special mention among the supporting actors. The rest remains underdeveloped. For me, superhero movies are usually only really good if they have a strong villain. Unfortunately, with Sabbac, we once again get a one-dimensional antagonist.
The score is good, especially the main theme, which is appropriately bombastic. However, two scenes in which licensed music is used are really bad. It just doesn't fit the established tone at all. As expected, the movie relies heavily on CGI, which certainly cost a lot of money. But like the rest of the film, the effects are neither particularly good nor bad. What I did like, however, was the brute force with which Black Adam sometimes squashes his opponents. It stands out from the usual superhero stuff.
So, how does the film fit into the larger DCEU? I can't really answer that. For sure, there are a few cameos intended to provide a connection to the other films. After the release, the mid-credit scene in particular will be talked about a lot. But this "universe" is still not coherent. I can't imagine that "Black Adam" takes place in the same world as "The Suicide Squad", "Justice League", or "Shazam". "Black Adam" has a much stronger sci-fi aesthetic than the other ones. For me, that is not really a big problem. I never felt a strong connection to this particular universe to begin with.
It really seems like the creators put a few superhero films in a blender, added a bit of new flavour to it and voila, we get Black Adam. It's a entertaining film, lots of big CGI stuff happening on the screen but the story could've been a bit more engaging, ditto with the characters. Dialogue could've been a whole lot better. Felt very generic, more so the villain. It's got a very been there done that kind of feel to it. Also it's painfully tiring to see bad guys, who are supposed to be mercenaries, not being able to stand against a kid with all their muscles and big weapons, and they've got their trademark bad aim to go with it. So many cliches man.... 6.25/10 for me.....
Like Pepsi and Burger King, BBC (Big Black Comic) feels like the other side of a very familiar coin.
Black Adam is a DC movie with Dr Strange (Dr Fate), Falcon (Hawkman), Storm from X-Men (Cyclone), Ant Man (Atom Smasher), Wakanda (Kahndaq), and Vibranium (Eternium). So, yeah, it's like Pepsi compared to Coke or BK and Mickey D's.
The good news is that it moves along quickly, there are a lot of action scenes and visually it's appealing. The CGI is decent and the actors (Dwayne Johnson included) do a solid job.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the movie -- the gray area between good and bad where super heroes sometimes tread -- is only partially explored.
Unfortunately, except for this concept that's eventually abandoned, the story is at once derivative and a little all over the place, so you'll spend your time drawing parallels between the MCU and the DCU for something to do.
A fun, nonstop action superhero film with a couple of horror elements. Coming from the director of Orphan, House of Wax, and The Shallows, I was pretty optimistic knowing that this film's helm by a horror director. I'm glad it turns out epic. This is a solid introduction of the antihero into the DCEU. It's packed with action and the ability to mix the drama, comedy, and up-high action feels so smooth and effortless, reminding me of the great Shazam! which also comes from another horror director. This film gets bigger in scale and generally feel more grandiose thanks to the amazing action sequences and explosions. I know most superhero films have those things, but in here they're at the right amount. Story-wise, it's not as generic as I was expecting and the titular character surprisingly has more personality than Superman and Batman combined. Those two guys from the Justice Society make this more fun. Perhaps the slow-motion is a bit too much for my taste, otherwise, this is a very entertaining watch.
The Hierarchy of Power in the DC Universe is about to change.
Amazing change in tone for the DCEU. Dwayne killed it as Black Adam. The JSA is super well done would love standalone films for both fate and hawkman.
This movie also has one of the best after credit scenes I've ever seen
Wow that sucked. Worst superhero movie I've ever seen.
DC completely wasted Dwayne Johnson's charisma by having him not smile throughout the entire movie.
Too bad the trailer gave away the twist, which might have added a modicum of emotional resonance.
Pity they killed off Doctor Fate. Actually would've liked to see him in more movies.
Nice to see the nods to the DCEU with Amanda Waller, Emilia Harcourt and Superman cameos.
I laughed out loud when Henry Winkler showed up.
"A bad plan is better than no plan at all."
That seems to be the logic DC applied to the making of this movie. Not sure they were correct.
This was really terrible. It was as formulaic as formulaic got. As I watched the film, I was reminded that while the creators of the majority of these superheroes may have had a good idea in the beginning, a good idea does not a story make. Most superhero origin stories were incredibly basic. They followed the same type of idea, and it got really boring really fast. There was zero depth to any of the characters involved in this film, and when Amanda Waller called on a ridiculous roster of superheroes to assist in whatever catastrophe was next, it made for a really poor setup of a movie, let alone movie franchise.
The cursory look at whether these superheroes should be assisting oppressed people was really pathetic, as well. They showed up in an oppressed country and protected the oppressors w/ some line about "due process." It made them look like the same fascists that were oppressing others in the first place, b/c fascism and murder were not designed to be fought w/ due process. The entire point of fascism was to bypass due process in order to implement your special brand of hate.
This line of thinking bled into the entire problem w/ the dialogue. The script felt as if it were written by people who didn't have much in the way of critical thinking prowess. In the beginning of the film, the heroes were on their way to confront Black Adam, and Pierce Brosnan made a statement about how they'd employ diplomacy so as not to get into a fight w/ him. The first thing Brosnan then said to Black Adam was, "Kneel or die." How exactly was that anywhere in the universe of diplomacy?
Finally, there was one plot point that stood out as especially terrible, and it was the death of Fate. In the film, he stated to his team members that he'd be taking on the enemy himself, b/c he foresaw the death of Hawkman. He said that he should be the one who dies, instead. However, he didn't so much as die in battle as commit suicide. In the middle of the fight, he simply removed his helmet, the item which gave him all his power, and allowed the enemy to kill him. Of course, this was used as the emotional impetus to drive his teammates. It was so poorly written that it was nearly unfathomable. The only reason I gave this film a six was due to the fact that this debacle wasn't in any way the fault of the actors involved, and I felt bad for them.
CGI CGI Dwayne Johnson CGI CGI CGI Irak occupation is bad CGI CGI Pierce Brosnan CGI CGI CGI the end
Movie was good overall, action sequences pretty fyre. However the kid was annoying asf, if you cut him out of the entire movie I'd give it a 10/10. They used the kid as an excuse to cause the disasters, as if we wouldn't get mad at him. But he was pretty incompetent and overall a blabbermouth. With kid 6/10 without kid easy 10/10 without kid and the mom 12/10
The best and most excited part of this movie was the post credit scene.
That's it.
Terrible. Repeated cliche jokes, boring script, characters with no personality.... cgi overkill.... awful, stopped watching after 1 hour of torture.
A constant spectacle of special effects and probably mostly only fun in that way. Many dialogue are borderline cringe or even totally strange or out of sync. The pacing and mood swings of the scenes and lack of equilibrium between characters makes the movie stumble a lot. Finally the story arc feels shallow and lacks epicness. They try to make it feel as so, but tends to fall flat on its face. A very strange experience.
I don't actually follow DC films, but maybe through Black Adam, I might start doing so. I mean, it isn't different from other superhero films I've watched, but I really appreciate the cinematography and CGI in this film, especially during the fight scene between Black Adam and Hawkman. The details are amazing. That's all I have to say though.
i didn't see this movie until now cuz of all the bad reviews. but gotta say it's better than the latest all Marvel movies.
The only remotely decent thing in this movie was dr. Fate, literally everything else was garbage.
Hackman was always a bad superhero, but they truly took him to the next level of clueless and inept. Aldis Hodge did the best with what he was given.
The Justice Society was always a joke, but wow, they are about as dimwitted and impotent as they could possibly be.
This movie is primarily bad because the writers were horrible.
The best thing about this is the vfx. Everything else is meaningless, especially it being a comic book universe.
剧情简单粗暴 特效很炸裂

Honestly it's unintentionally funny, has great Dwayne the Rock Johnson meme potential, and some action scenes were cool to look at.
This made me hard af, and it won't go away. I called my doctor and he said "Me too."
'Black Adam' holds hits and misses aplenty, but I think I got enough out of it by the time the credits rolled.
The most standout part of this 2022 DCEU flick is its humour, albeit weirdly. What I mean is that I found the comedy to actually be fairly amusing, much more so than I was anticipating, but the way it is placed into other events onscreen is very messy and almost forced.
It's as if they made the whole movie without humour and then went back and placed bits throughout. Like I'd be watching a gag and it would make me at least smirk, though it would be surrounded by more serious moments so it comes across as unconnected. It's weird, perhaps just a me thing.
Lorne Balfe's music is good, I particularly enjoyed "The Justice Society Theme" in the end titles - added it to my playlist already! As for this film's other elements, I found the action to be well done - and as such the editing. The special effects at the beginning for Kahndaq's backstory isn't great though, I've seen a lot of films (early 2010s, mind you) use that sorta effect and it rarely comes out positively.
Cast-wise, I have no negatives. Dwayne Johnson fits the titular character as you'd expect, I wouldn't say his performance is anything all that great but what he gives is enough - when coming to terms with Amon's superhero ideas, Johnson plays off the 'learning on the job' angle well.
Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan and Sarah Shahi are solid. Mohammed Amer offers good comedic relief, definitely the one that got the most chuckles out of me. The characters of Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell feel derivative, though Marwan Kenzari is thankfully more villainy here than he is in 2019's 'Aladdin'.
A more thorough execution and I may have loved this. In the absence of that, I'd simply class it as passable.
"It's been a while since anyone's made the world this nervous. Black Adam. We should talk."
Did't really enjoy the little kid, couldn't really get into the cgi, I did like Pierce Brosnan as the DC dr. Strange, I really enjoyed Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and the Rock was alright and I do want to see Superman vs. Black Adam could be a great fight.
Anyway I had to watch something during my flight back from Los Angeles to Amsterdam and I decided to watch this one. A airplane movie screen isn't the best way to enjoy movies but it was a way to pass the time. Maybe I would've enjoyed Black Adam more on a bigger screen so maybe I'll watch it again someday.
Still I went in with much lower expectations for this one. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought it would suck so much. But hey, happy that it was better than that. Still not that good though!
was okay but not worth watching a second time.
It's unbelievable how they managed to waste so much potential with so many pathetic elements.
Pathetic dialogues, pathetic characters, pathetic humor, pathetic plot.
CGI and some few scenes covering moral topics within two or three sentences were the only decent parts.
Apparently, it's supposed to be very bad, but it was just normal bad. But I guess watching a dead franchise whose post credit scene won't even be taken anywhere is a bummer.
Good action. Dr fate is great. Cameo at the end was the best part. Rock played the rock which is dissapointing. Would have been good to see him as black Adam with the hair, make up, accent and possibly be a bit more evil. Didn't care for thr kid or thr Disney like story line of him leading people who shouldn't care for what he is saying. Good but nothing worth raving about. Need Henry Caville back though.
Once you get past massive use of slow motion, the fairly terrible CGI and the not so great acting it wasn't too bad.
I enjoyed how everyone played their characters, with the odd exceptions of some minor, newer actors (and one larger role - hawkman, who's acting just seemed a bit... bland?) I liked the humour that was given by Dwayne's dry delivery, I enjoyed the use of his power (something I'd like to see more antiheroes and villains doing in this type of film)
I managed to avoid everything to do with this film until I watched it and wasn't too disappointed with the twists and turns, even if they're a bit over done.
Some good fights, some interesting scenes, definitely one to watch and not expect much of. You'll enjoy it more that way I think.
never watch a trailer
Man! How long have I've been waiting to see this movie? I feel like The Rock has been talking about wanting to play the character since 2006. I always wondered why Black Adam? Not just an obscure Comic book character amongst DC's finest but why not just play his best rival SHAZAM and truly be a black superhero?
I have to say, I'm so happy he picked Black Adam. Mostly because Dwayne Johnson playing a "Villain" met that superheroes would have to try to stop him, and they made the decision to...extend the DC Extended Universe with heroes that have not grace the silver screen yet.
Aldis Hodge playing a cross between Batman and Black Panther with his version of Hawkman. The special effects to bring Atom Smasher to life were amazing, now I know who Cyclone is (I wonder if she's an actual black woman in the comic), and Pierce Brosnan, who could have been my generation's Batman, is playing Dr. Faith. Forming together to become the Justice Society and me hoping this will not be the last I see of them.
Black Adam was good it was really good, absolutely worth the time and effort. The DC Extended universe has made some questionable movies, but this is not one of them. This was Aquaman, Wonder Woman good. This was SHAZAM good, and that's hope that battle with Black Adam is coming up!
Excellent!!
I quite enjoyed this movie. Given the story (some superhero wakes up 5000 year later) I was a bit afraid that it would be a lot of unintelligent Hollywood slapstick humor with Black Adam trying to adapt to modern society. There where a little bit of that but, luckily, not too much.
I did actually have some hopes for this movie given that those woke intellectual midgets that the rubbish site Rotten Tomatoes calls critics gave it a rotten rating whereas the actual audience gave it a near 90% fresh rating.
Overall it is a decent story without too many ludicrous elements in it. It works pretty well from start to finish.
The Rock is, well, he is The Rock which is good. He did play a more serious character in this movie than he has done in many of his movies though. Pierce Brosnan (I actually didn’t recognize him at first) worked very well as Dr Fate. The rest of the characters was okay but nothing to write home about.
It is a superhero movie so of course there were plenty of special effects, CGI and action. That is really the main reason to watch these movies and I enjoyed every moment of it. Especially when Black Adams let loose.
The action is sometimes quite violent actually with limbs and heads flying. I don’t mind at all. There are way too many movies that some Hollywood bean counter has forced the producers/directors to ruin because they thought it would appeal to a larger audience. Well, then pick a story that is made for that audience you stupid morons.
As usual the mid credits scene hinted that there would be more movies with Black Adams and, as long as they keep The Rock as Black Adams in them I can certainly see myself watch more Black Adams.
One of the few DC live action films I enjoyed. Man of Steel is the other.
Cool action scenes but this movie just feels like a 13-year old's power fantasy of the Rock going 'im so super strong the bad guys will fire guns at me and then ill shrug it off and go super fast and zap them and ill meet superman and and and'
Dr. Fate and Hawkman were by far the best part of the movie. Without them, I don't think I would've liked this movie at all.
Atom Smasher and Cyclone were alright. That small plot twist with Black Adam's origin was good too. But the rest of the movie falls flat.
Some of the dialogues and choices made by the characters were so poorly written that were beyond critical thinking.
Overall plot of the movie was very forgettable.
There wasn't enough depth shown in the main character itself. After finishing the movie, I didn't like the main character which normally doesn't happen.
Love THE ROCK and how he's so inspiring irl but his acting fell short as a lead character imo compared to the performace put up by Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan.
It's not terrible but it suffers from a poorly written and executed plot, bland characters and an unlikeable anti-hero.
5.5/10 - for the (failed) potential
The DCEU has had a problem with finding their tonal center for a long time now, really since their inception. Are they dark and serious? Are they light and upbeat? That being said, I can tell they didn't quite know how to make this movie work. It feels so much like an X-Men or Guardians of the Galaxy movie that I had to stop and remember that it was DC, not Marvel.
Black Adam has some great moments, especially toward the end when it remembers it is supposed to be an action movie.
There are too many jokes here, and it's played in a way that kills scenes like slamming on the brakes in a car going at top speed.
Another misstep is the music... it doesn't fit 90% of the time. If you strip away all the forced goofiness, this is a grim story, and it needed to be, but the music wants to convey fun or heroism before it has reached the appropriate time.
I really liked our superheroes, and wish more time would have been spent with them, but the story focused around a city and the people therein; in particular, one family. To put it plainly, I never began to care about anyone aside from our heroes.
The tragedy here is I liked Black Adam as a character, he's very interesting, and Johnson was great in the role. I didn't need the Terminator 2 relationship between Black Adam, and Amon. The villain was lackluster, and shows up way too late to be defeated so easily.
I like some of the director's other movie, so I am going to blame studio interference for this.
It had a few good moments, the slow-motion fights were a good touch, but man, the dialogue was awful. The storyline jumped from moment to moment without any kind of smooth transitions in between, lacking the much needed backstory in most of the scenes that were central to the character and the storyline as a whole. It's quite the disappointment actually.
Black Adam isn't funny, original or interesting. The visuals effect are below par and a lot of the elements we've seen a thousand times in the past 1,5 decade. This whole thing is just incredibly mediocre. It's fun to see Brosnan in this kind of role, tho.
full offense, this film sucked. in every way possible. the only way to enjoy this film is to 1) have no prior knowledge of any DC character ever, like Dr. fate or atom smasher especially the titular character black Adam 2) forego storytelling for cheap 1 liners and cgi explosives and 3) want to support the rock so bad that it makes you selectively blind on the reality of the absolute suckiness of this movie. this POS had the audacity to have Viola Davis in it and for what? just an intimidating factor? what a waste. black Adam didn't deserve 30 minutes on screen, much less 2 hours.
if you genuinely loved this movie bcos it was "so funny" or "action packed" I promise you, there are movies out there much funnier, with real choreographed fighting, with dialogue that really engages you etc, I implore you to Watch. Better. Movies. Please.
I love bad movies, but even spoofs have hard rules - this movie wasn't worth my time and it's not worth yours. look at me :eye: :eye: watch something else.
normally I don't leave comments on movies but I felt so impassioned to Tell the Truth. this is my life line to those of yall that might need it.
Definitely not one of the Rock’s better movies
Poor and very derivative.
Just not very imaginative. DC still trying to be Marvel and failing
Great flick! I really enjoyed the hell out of this movie, I really loved the fact that Dr. Fate had sacrificed himself for the team.
And just to add icing on the cake, I liked how Teth-Adam split Sabbac down the middle, that was... unexpected! Nice!
It's insane when you think about what this movie could've been and what it ended up being. I don't know how they keep failing at this movie thing.
Nice action movie. Aside from Sarah Shahi, the younger actors were pretty dumb.
It's fine, but the editong is really bad at times
I've not read any other reviews/comments (nor will I) so I'm not sure what anyone else thought about this particular film; for me, however, it wasn't a bad movie. Not my favorite Dwayne Johnson film, for sure, but after watching this I'm not at all sure why I keep seeing where it "bombed at the box office". I'm not a huge DC Comics fan (of their movies or their comics) so I'm probably not the best at giving an objective review here; what I can say is that it was a good "superhero action movie" with lots of cool fight sequences. The whole mix of Black Adam/Justice Team was (for me) extremely confusing; even after finishing the movie, the lines are still blurry as to who's what: is Black Adam evil or good? Villain or Superhero? Why does the Justice Team (I know that's not the right term, but I know it isn't "Justice League" and I don't feel like scrubbing through the film to find the reference to it again.) keep wanting to squash Black Adam? Apart from alpha-male ego and marking territory, there seemed to be no real rhyme or reason as to why they thought he needed to be destroyed. (Again, I'm not a huge fan/follower of DC Comics so maybe I'm missing something.) As far as a fun "action" movie, I was very entertained by this. Of course, I was eating lunch the entire 2+ hour runtime so maybe that's why I was able to sit through it without getting overly impatient. Maybe that's the secret to watching Black Adam : Make sure you have a plate full of Popeye's Fried Chicken (spicy, of course) before you turn this on; that way you won't get bored with it.
In all, I would give this one a "6"; definitely not a "boring" movie but it had its (several) moments that were really stupid, hard to follow, or both. One thing I will say, though: Quit with the stupid teen romance drama already. It had absolutely no place in this film and for us seasoned citizens who have already endured the nightmare that is teen romance drama, we have zero interest in seeing it…especially in what is supposed to be a superhero action movie.
Take your own chances with this one.
This movie should just be called ‘Dwayne Johnson’s latest steroid cycle’.
The beginning is weak, you can feel it is strongly inspired by Marvel movies (even if it DC was the first with that comics). The film develops in the second part, giving the basis for the construction of the next movies. It's a shame that WB screwed up as usual. ;)
This would have made a better tv show than movie. They could have had a whole episode about each of the main plot points and it would have been more interesting.
But as far as a movie, if they had cut out all of the pointless, meaningless fighting, the fighting that mattered would have had more impact.
The way it is now, it's just a movie with a lot of fighting and you don't really care about it.
[HBO Max] So confused, uninspired and chaotic that it's understandable what its trajectory in theaters has been like. There is an evident lack of development in characters that never abandon their status as clichés, as mere elements of support for the protagonist, whose evolution is not particularly successful either. But planning by Jaume Collet-Serra, a director who sometimes makes decent action movies but doesn't seem prepared for a CGI blockbuster. There is a visual concept that makes the film absolutely soporific.
Get rid of the skateboard!
I was so annoyed seeing Amon on that skateboard, over and over in the movie.
Outside of that, I like the movie.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did not disappoint.
its only saved by a few cool shoots, otherwise really generic and feels like a copy
Mediocre at best and i had very low expectations
Not good, but not as bad as I thought it might be. This is a case where the execution falls flat, but the big ideas are pretty solid. The anti-hero structure was just enough of a change in pace from the typical onslaught of superhero films. Having the Justice Society playing the pseudo-antagonist for the first half of the movie was fun, and I liked the ensemble (or maybe I'm just a sucker for Pierce Brosnan). I was also pleasantly surprised that none of them turned evil, as that felt like the natural twist. Of course, having the Justice Society fill out the early/mid action sequences meant that the big baddie didn't show up until the end, leaving him feeling rushed and underdeveloped. But that's often how villains feel in superhero films anyway, so I was okay with him basically being a third act only villain. Ultimately, the biggest weak spot in the final sequence wasn't the big bad, it was his "minions". The skeleton/zombie fight with the human characters felt totally manufactured and out of place.
I was really hyped for this so I ended up super disappointed. It's a 5/10 and that's it. Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate was incredible. It feels kinda like a Synder cut situation where they tried to cram what should've been multiple movies into a single one and the end result ended up sucking. They just assume everyone knows stuff about random nobodies that have never been introduced anywhere. But I'm not sure even if it had been three movies if it would've been any better because virtually everyone in it is so uninteresting, aside from Dr. Fate tbh. Ironically, he would've actually been a decent character for them to include in future works in the DCU but they killed him off in the very same movie he was introduced. So they pretty much screwed themselves in every respect on this one.
Seems like DC can only provide a "Team" VS movie.
I watched it, didn't feel long so it was entertaining but meh... lacked a lot.
It's gonna be a 'no' from me, dog.
Love the movie, Love the Rock, but he's played out alot in so many different franchises, I would have been more accepting but not less thrilled if they found a little younger future star/superhero that could have made not only another young actor a star but could have allowed for many more dc inspired black adam and justice league movies. Im not hating on the rock, he does add a great portrayal of a superhero no matter what hat they throw on him. But he just exists in too many other places already and is already a mega star, let somebody else take the wheel for awhile. Let's face it ,the rock could retire before we see another black adam movie in reality. This almost cements the idea in the movie for the justice league to keep him in hibernation for many years underwater until a future star is born. We unfortunately have to see a different actor portray this superhero by that time. Kudos to the rock though for always being such a huge presence on screen despite how many movies he's been in now. Never fails to bring the house down just by being on the bill.

Defined much better than expected. I guess is tricky to make a movie with an invincible character but still.. much room for improvement story wise.
I really didn’t like the end villain. He looked like a game character with not so good graphics.
