Throughout its entire run time it's obnoxiously obvious that this film is trying to be like The Blair Witch Project in absolutely every way. And it's terrible. So... I guess it succeeds?
Pretty awful movie. Slow, not scary, unoriginal, poorly executed, and honestly just poor. If you enjoy watching movies, just give it a shot, but if you are looking for a decent horror movie, you should look somewhere else.
True sequel if you ask me.The original felt like setting the scene for this one to follow.Really enjoyed how faithful it was to the previous events, managing to enrich them in every possible way!!!
All the hype made me think that this was going to scare me to death. Lots of view changes and random loud noises just got irritating.
A direct sequel to 1999 film but it's more of the same really. Just done with newer technology. It does scare me at some parts but there's an overproduced feel to the film that really bothers me. I also don't get it why replicate the exact structure of the original when you could do so much more with it. It literally hits the same beats but in a less effective fashion. Overall it's pretty bad but the last 20 minutes is worth seeing.
FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU !!!!!
FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON ME !!!!
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT WAS THE BIGGEST INTERNET HYPED FILM. (WITCH WAS A PILE OF DOG TURD)
THIS IS A MANY YEARS LATER COPIED IDEA. WITH AN OVER BUDGET OF £10 LOL
DON'T WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME WATCHING THIS PILE OF DOG TURD ;)
Movie sucked not worth time or effort! #ShiftvW8
This movie makes me so happy. It's like a batch of warm cookies and a tall glass of oat milk.
It does the Blair Witch world justice. But adds nothing fresh. Pretty much is the same result as the first film.
you look exactly as i remembered
The Bitch (short for Blair Witch) is back and you will wish she hadn't bothered. There are too many characters running around in the woods and you probably won't care what happens to them. I certainly didn't. The original movie was decent enough and possibly the first found footage movie made. There are now too many films in that genre and barely any of them have been any good (excluding Rec). So in summary don't bother with this one... you really will feel as if you have gone round in circles. Blair Witch? Meh Witch more likely.
There were some really good scares in there, but the constant view-changes and the sudden loud noises and screaming were very annoying by the halfway mark...
Brought some friends to see this one tonight; We liked it; thought it was alright, not great though. It's a neat update with some newer tech thrown in, more camera views, but even the latest technology won't do you any good in these woods. The many jump scares, shouting and screaming may be quite annoying.
Parts of Blair Witch (2016) remind me of other horrors such as Evil Dead (2013), The Descent (2005), REC (2007), and especially P.T. (the Silent Hills demo game from Konami). Of course, being directed by Adam Wingard, there's a resemblance to some of the shorts from the V/H/S series.
i don't know what everyone is saying, but to me this is an actual Witch movie. it felt real, original and authentic. got me scared the whole time, i loved it.
I loved it..Some actual creepy moments made it a valid sequel
Now that I have seen it, I wish that I had a chance to see the original at the movies. But this was fun, little bit scary but not so scary that I thought it would be. Hoped for more, but I would recommend to go to the movies and see it. It will be better than watching it at home.
But one thing I was wondering. Do you remember the lights in one scene that came thru the wooden wall, when they were in the house. They seemed kinda "classic alien lights", but they were only like that in that scene. But still what if Blair Witch died and the Blair Witch is not a witch but actually an alien. That would explain the "time loops" and other things that were happening.
By the same editors of Catfish, Blair Witch.
5/10
Does this movie understand what it is...
Not really.
It's not a REMAKE as literally the guy is referring to Heather from the first movie, in fact the hole point to this movie is to find what happened to his sister.
The events of the first movie gets named dropped
so many times as they hang the hole movie on it and Heather. Right from the start my worry kicked in that because of making sure you understand it's not a Remake but a sequel I thought it wasn't confident it could pull this installment off on it's own merits.
Was I wrong,
No I was absolutely correct.
This was definitely the weakest of the 3 Installments, the characters were annoying at the beginning, the sound in the movie was loud, annoying
and all over the place.
If I had to hear them scream and shout
anymore I was going to lose my shit
and the last 25,30 minutes dragged. The ending definitely went on way,way to long it
Just became annoying and boring.
The strong things in this movie wasn't utilised enough, definitely wanted more time dilation elements,
And more creativeness from that foot of hers,
They made it such a point, to just piss the chance to do something awesome with it,
but instead they went with a cop-out
black screen time, wiggling the camera
everywhere so you see fcuk all
And more screaming and shouting to
the point you wish for all involved
to just Get-Got.
What a missed opportunity to carry this fascinating legacy on for the next generation to enjoy.

I found this movie pretty fun. Compared to previous two movies, this one is much more like the original while also taking freedoms to expand on some ideas. A bit more is shown, which is a move away from the first movie, but I also feel like it would be incredibly hard to not disappoint the audience by showing nothing the second time - it would just be the same movie, in HD.
I had a couple of gripes: some cheap jumpscares, characters supposedly having a moment by staring at cameras on their ears like they are each other's eyes, and especially with pointing flashlights at cameras and overuse of bright glitches in a movie that's pitch black. (That's not even how digital glitches work, chill.)
At the same time, there are cool moments, a good mix of different ways of scaring you and the jumpscares aren't preceded by an annoyingly obvious low tone - which is a big win in my books. Worth a watch
This is sadly the first Adam Wingard movie that when it was over I said to myself "whatever" and moved on.
17 years of waiting to see what this thing looks like was not worth the wait.
Oh and to top things off, I watched this back in September and now I just remembered it. It's not my memory that sucks, it's the movie.
It is what it is, I wasn't expecting much cause the second was more possession or witchcraft than the Blair Witch. I wish films would quit with the sound jump scares that lead nowhere but making my ears hurt.
This is simply a waste of time. It's not supposed to be a remake of the Blair Witch Project (1999) but it certainly looks and (almost) feels like it but fails. There is simply nothing new here. The original Blair Witch Project (1999) is much better and at least back then was a very new and unique kind of movie. Skip this and go (re)watch the original.
The only movie where you hope that the villain wins...at least to make them stop screaming. Terrible
Hikers return to the Black Hills Forest for another terrifying encounter with the Blair Witch in this direct sequel to the 1999 horror classic. The story follows an aspiring film student as she documents her friend’s search for his long lost sister who went missing in the Black Hills while making a documentary about the Blair Witch legend; but soon her team befalls the same strange phenomena that lead to the first team’s disappearance. Once again the series returns to the found footage style, but with an upgrade as the hikers go in with a drone and Bluetooth earpiece cameras with GPS. Yet the high tech only serves to make their getting lost all the more contrived (and the plot is pretty contrived as it is). Also, the characters aren’t that compelling and the performances don’t really help with that. A mediocre horror film, Blair Witch is little more than a cheap knock-off of the original.
Nothing new in the genre and as a sequel a total failure. One good scene at the end, but nothing more to say.
the only good scene was the part where that girl got snapped in half. pretty memey
This is basically the original movie with very little deviation, which is disappointing. This is compounded by the fact that they traded the scares that screw with your head for jump scares, made the characters even more hair-trigger, and hung the whole thing on a concept that doesn't really make sense.
I found it entertaining enough. I agree with some comments below about characters running around too much at one point, but I felt the struggle and they letteraly build everything showing very little, which for me is fascinating. I also liked the sense of time thing and one or two scenes really nice to watch.
Overall not super fantastic: poor characters, few predictable things and a couple of bad choices, but watchable, more enjoyable than a lot of others crapper movies.
PS: I didn't see the original.
More twisted some kind of remake, which keeps you in tension. Less unsaid, but such times are now in the cinematography that there must be a lot and directly shown.
i expected more for sure.. good idea, story but "all is happening and nothing happens". they are just all movie Hahahahah AHAHA Aha just making sounds .. give me a good story urban legend happening good start poor end ..
Terrible sequel. The characters are stupid and the end is pathetic! The first one from 1999 is a classic, and you should just rewatch over and over again, because this new one is garbage. Classic movies don't need garbage sequels. Ugh.
Totally pointless and unnecessary sequel/remake. Adds nothing new or interesting to the mythos, but still it's effective, creepy and atmospheric at times. Great sound design. But if you're going to watch anything, just rewatch the original, it's more effective and you wouldn't be missing much.
Shaky cam! Loud noises! Jump scares! Screaming and breathing heavily!
It gets annoying when you want a good sense of dread. Dissapointing and even pointless..
so wtf was this? i really wanted to believe everything i heard about "The Woods" aka Blair Witch. I loved the first one (who doesn't) and hoped they will push even further, but what i saw was just disappointing. Sure you can watch it, but you wouldn't care if you don't, trust me. They just tried to hard to connect everything and still i am sitting here without any clue what this movie was meant to be...
Just random loud noises, random footages and predictable ending
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! this is a totally bad film. everyone is irritating as hell they only run and scream really really loud. If you lost a bet and you have to watch it just skip to the last 20 minutes.
Adam Wingards Blair Witch sequel/remake feels like a modern update of the original movie with any of the terror. The story doesn't bring much of anything original to the already tired found footage horror genre. The ending is decent though. There are some moments that are a little creepy but most everything else about Blair Witch is forgettable.
im a fantic of this sub genre, and the 1st one is one of the best horror movies of all times.
this one it´s not even an average found footage. :( ... disappointment .
So the main issue here isn't if it's a good or bad movie, because it's certainly not the best movie in the world. The issue comes down to the fact that it fell prey to every found footage trope that exists without offering much else to drown that out. For instance, the level of sheer devotion the first film put in made it worth it tenfold. This was simply weak
This was the worst movie I saw in the last 5 years. Terrible.
what can I honestly say about this mess of a so called movie apart from avoid at all cost, unbelivably bad.
Basically just a series of jump scares. Half of them being one of the characters coming back behind another. Very badly done.
Boring and poorly written. Also a ripoff of Sponebob! There once was an ugly witch. She was so ugly, everyone died. The end.
Entire movie was incredibly predicable, even the
little tell of the time loop thing wasn't terribly exciting.
For me is a Great film, I not have grand spectating so, is good. PT BR review here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2rGH_dxPZI
I like this director but he is better when he does original films like You're Next and the Guest. I am tired of camera shaking found footage movies. Plus if you saw the original, then you saw this movie pretty much.
I was hoping for something different but there's way too much of the same movie. Without knowing what the hell is going on most the time. I probably would have liked it more of it wasn't a found footage film.
I really like this director but he deserves better than a Blair Witch movie. Originally the film even had a different title.

I felt like this was a huge let down. The Blair Witch backstory and the story of the fates the original characters left such a vast pool of ideas that could've been explored. Sadly, the movie felt like a rehash of events from the original. Thumbs down...
