Cate Blanchett's performance is the highlight of this movie. She is phenomenal. Worth a watch just to see Cate Blanchett but it's also a good movie outside that. The story is interesting and dialogue feels real.
It was pretty fantastic. Woody Allen impresses again with his theatrical style scripts and well-written characters. There were a few moments in the film that I found to be predictable, but I never felt cheated as an audience member because of it. It's not really a movie that relies on you to be guessing where the characters will end up, but more so being able to observe them along the way.
Each of the characters were unique and consistent, and because of the story it was trying to tell, it provided a really good excuse to see some emotional performances. Most notably by Cate Blanchett, who gives the best performance of the film and possibly one of the best all year. She provides many observable subtleties in her performance and I was never really watching the movie thinking of her as an actor. I was really able to believe that she was her character in this movie. And props to Woody Allen for that too, because his script gave a really in-depth and interesting character study to work with. The rest of the actors on film I still saw as the actors themselves, but they were casted for their roles well enough that it didn't seem unnatural in the slightest.
Louis C.K. is playing Louis C.K., Sally Hawkins is playing Sally Hawkins and Alec Baldwin is playing Alec Baldwin. The only real complaints I have about the film are some personal subjective issues I have with the editing. You can tell that the script's written in such a way that the characters should be interrupting each other ever so slightly. The beginning of the next sentence overlapping with the end of the previous one. And you can tell that too, because when two characters are in the same shot that's how it's performed. But there was one scene in particular where the two characters were in separate shots, and the editing provided an uncomfortable amount of room between their sentences, making it a little distracting for me. It seemed really unnatural, but thankfully it was only for a short scene. At a later scene in the film, it seemed like a cut was made in-between two quick sentences, with the first half of it cut out to make it seem like that's where the characters started talking.
Again, very minor, but it did take me out of the movie for a second. Despite those technical criticisms, this is so far one of the best movies I've seen all year. If you like watching a really interesting and entertaining character piece, then go check it out.
Blue Jasmine is a dramatic story about the life tragedy of Jasmine, a woman that sees her glamorous life falling apart when her very rich husband goes to jail because of some suspicious ways of making a lot of money.
Between the present and some flashbacks of the past, we see the life she had comparing with the situation that she's living right now. We see why she became so depressed and unbalanced and it gets more and more fascinating to see this woman's despair because of Cate Blanchett's performance. She was absolutly fantastic! I really hope she will get nominations for this years awards because her performance is deserving of that!
After a not so good To Rome With Love, in my opinion, Woody Allen is back with his capability of writing simple and basic stories in an impeccable way.
The only thing I liked about this movie was Cate Blanchett's extraordinary performance.
Every few years Woody Allen's newest film is trumpeted by the press as his "best film in years" - Wimbledon, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Midnight in Paris - and while these films are good, when you finally get to watch them, they can't quite live up to the hype. Blue Jasmine more than lives up to it.
Cate Blanchett's Jasmine is one of the finest pieces of acting I have ever seen - a powerhouse performance. A touching portrayal of a woman holding on to life by her fingernails. The supporting roles are also first rate.
Blue Jasmine IS Woody Allen's best film in years, hell I'd even go as far to say that it could be one of his best films ever. At 77 years old he can still surprise us.
Good movie with a very Woody Allen-like humor, I prefer other of his films though. Cate Blanchett's acting is great.
Cate Blanchett at the heights, but the film itself is long and not captivating...
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)
5.5
well I hate relationship drama and stuff like that so this movie is not for me. Also everyone is so uncomfortable pathetic, especially Ginger and Chilli, its just sad. (don't @ me Im not going into human psychology now xD )
Very boring movie for me but Blanchett´s acting was really good.
Movie was really nothing special but Blanchett's perfomance was something else for sure one of the best perfomance's of her carrer well deserved oscar.6.5/10
This film was odd in that it had some of the trappings of a Woody Allen film (the music, the moral questions, etc) but it certainly didn't feel like a Woody Allen film. To be honest, I didn't love it. It kept my attention the whole way but in retrospect that probably had more to do with Cate Blanchett's unbelievable performance in the lead role. I would have liked to have seen the film be a pure drama instead of the dramedy that it became. This gets a 7 on the strength of Blanchett's performance.

I´ve had a tough decision to make with this movie. Up to now I´ve hadn´t finished a single Woody Allen movie and I´ve not even tried many. But I love Cate Blanchett. I made it through this one. Cate was awesome but I don´t want to even start another Woody Allen. Just not my thing.
It tastes like terrible medicine from childhood. But apparently bitter medicine best cure. Big bows for Cate.
When first I heard about this movie. I was pretty excited about it. It's Woody Allen movie. And that guy is great. I loved previous 3 movies of his. But Blue Jasmine. Total dissapointment. Althought I kinda understand it. That this is what happen when you take life for granted.
