Bodied 2018

This is pretty much 8 mile for on PC millenials. Has some funny parts and some dope rhymes. Ultimately it was a little too long. A tighter story would have made this more enjoyable.

This was a great piece of filmmaking, writing, and acting. This movie took on a subject that was difficult to navigate, and it came away asking existential questions about ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, and what it means to win and lose in the game of life. The acting in this film was as extraordinary as the writing. This was a sharply-written piece that begged the audience to question what we really knew about ethnic and gender groups outside our own. What I came away w/ in the end was that it's not possible to completely understand someone else's experiences and what makes them who they are, but it is possible to find the commonality of our shared existence, while acknowledging that there will always be differences among us.

A fun battle rap movie that of course draws similarities to 8 Mile but is much more comedic (if anyone thinks this movie was actually "PC" then the jokes went over their head). It was cool seeing everyone from the KOTD battle rap scene make appearances here; If you for some reason stumbled upon this movie without knowing anything about battle rap then I suggest checking out Rone vs Charron and Dizaster vs Dumbfounded to see the characters spit IRL. Dizaster (Megaton) is a fucking maniac.

Bodied has a lot of parallels to 8 Mile, which is not a bad thing. I was more drawn into the 8 Miles story and it had a slightly different focus and that's my take. Rap battle is the battleground for this movie and it's core focus for all the characters. Bodied is entertaining in its own right and to be honest, rap battles were what made 8 Mile so much fun.
