Only cultist Trump supporters wouldn't find this funny. Hilarious AND it has some heart.
This was a big miss as a sequel... as established early on in the movie the character of "Borat" is pretty much dead as he is part of pop culture now so he can't do the same stunts as before. To work around this issue we are instead introduced to his daughter who travels with him while Sacha is mostly going around in throw-away disguises akin to his recent "Who is America?" show (which was already plagued by similar issues). Unfortunately they did very little to help ground this in reality. Borat as a journalist had a reason to travel around and have a camera on where as in the sequel it feels quite unauthentic and often scripted. The "charm" Borat had is also mostly absent as he was mostly just in narritive driven scenes (making the Giuliani scene the "climax" AND releasing the movie with this deliberate timing only did it a big disservice imho). Did I chuckle in some scenes? Sure... but as a complete package it was just really disappointing and hollow.

Funny at moments but doesn’t quite compare to the original film. It didn’t feel grounded in reality like the first film - felt it had potential for more. There’s a lot there but it’s nothing to be exceptionally proud of. It’s “Bad Grandpa” meets “Who Is America?” essentially.

This felt more like a smear campaign to me.
If you're looking for just some pranks and dick jokes, you'll be disappointed. Subsequent MovieFilm is rather a loosely scripted dramedy about a father and daughter who are confronted with their deeply held, toxic beliefs and in overcoming them, grow closer to each other and make Kazakstan a better place for everyone. These beliefs are echoed in the people we meet throughout Borat and Tutar's mission, and I came out of it hoping they make the same change. I felt like some scenes were there only to fill some obligation to shock the viewer, but I felt that these gags fell flat. Thankfully, the real meat of the moviefilm is the father/daughter relationship and thanks to some great writing, Bakalova's acting, and the chemistry between the leads, the effort pays off in spades.
Also, Giuliani absolutely, unambiguously touches himself. He is a pervy, disgusting old man who should never be able to live this down.

The slapstick humour is, for the most part, dubious. However, the exposure of, and the clever incitement to self incrimination of, the racist, misogynistic, xenophobic elements within the right wing events he attended was at once shocking and, sadly, totally unsurprising. And then there’s the politically explosive, jaw dropping end... Given the timing of this movie’s release and the personal risks Cohen must have taken during the filming, he deserves the kudos this movie will undoubtedly bring him.
Maria should win an Academy Award! Outstanding performance!
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’:
Borat set a high bar 14 years ago that Sacha Baron Cohen dared to reach again, revisiting a gimmick that may have only been meant for its time. Turns out, it couldn’t have been a better time to don the gray suit again.
The addition of his daughter and, with that, a more emotional narrative, is what keeps this sequel fresh among those oh-so-familiar cringeworthy antics.
It ended super strong, perhaps stronger than the original: that perfect “twist” and the perfect guest star (who I love even more for participating). Borat is redeemed and comes full circle.
These films are way better than they have any right to be - entirely thanks to Sacha Baron Cohen.
I enjoyed 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' more than its predecessor from 2006, which relied too heavily on shock sex humour for my liking - though I did still like it all in all. This sequel is a little more creative with its jokes, whilst still having the necessary silliness and cringe.
Cohen is excellent as he reprises the role of Borat. He made me laugh a number of times, any other actor in this role simply wouldn't be funny - he somehow makes it work expertly, his perfect delivery being crucial.
In the first film, Cohen had Ken Davitian alongside him. Davitian doesn't return which is a shame, but he isn't missed to be honest. Maria Bakalova steps in very well, I feared her Tutar character was going to be irritating but she's anything but - Bakalova holds her own alongside Cohen.
It's amusing, in ways that are indeed funny but also in ways that you know you shouldn't be laughing at - though that's critical to these films working. It also has the same Punk'd feel that the original production has.

Hilarious! Of course it wasn't as funny as the original one, maybe because we've seen it all, but nonetheless it was really funny. There were many scenes where I found myself laughing my a$$ off! And things do not make me laugh this easily.
How the hell has Borat not been cancelled in 2020? It's a wealthy Western man caricaturizing a poor Kazakh in public spaces as a crazy and ignorant racist. He's basically inciting racism while wearing blackface and people are like, "He's so hilarious! haha"
For people claiming Sacha Cohen is "oh, so against PC-culture, he doesn’t care", then why does he retired his other 'satirical' characters like: Ali G (black culture), Dictator Aladeen (Arabs), Bruno (gay people)? Oh, that’s right, he is scared of 'cancel culture'. Cohen has a Golden Racism Pass for Borat because American 'cancel culture' is veeeery selective on who they target, and this is due to the famous American ignorance. Here is the loophole: all ex-Soviets countries/cultures are free to ridiculed. American humor has always been about making fun of other countries. They also love making fun of immigrants’ accents. But since they don't want to be seen as racists (even though they are), it's their loophole to still make jokes at the expense of certain nationalities. It’s a vile double standard.
Borat is a racist caricature of a central Asian person, no it's not funny, and no it's not 'satirising racism' to perpetuate hateful stereotypes about Central Asia. And miss me with the, 'this movie mock America and not Kazakhstan' shit. Can you imagine the outrage it would provoke if the very same movie was filmed mocking black people? Or trans people?
And meanwhile, Sacha Cohen is the spokesman for the ADL which polices the portrayal of Jewish people. Oh, the irony.
This was so fucking uncomfortable, yet, still funny, I feel bad for watching this and not hating the producers, I know they probably are the furthest away from the sentiment, yet I'm still disgusted.

Everything you expect - deeply distasteful, borderline gags, runs out of steam and somehow manages to say more than it should.
I laughed hard for much of the first 30 minutes and then the laughs petered out. It's astonishing how much of it still is able to demonstrate the frightening hipocrisy in the US and A...
The scrioted/planted bits take hold after 30 minutes and the whole thing is an elaborate farce that is hardly worth the effort - only in the minds of the makers, that is.

It seems that Maria Bakalova managed to secure a short on-camera interview with Rudi Giuliani and the whole film is scripted and contrived around this single 'scoop', during which nothing of consequence was exposed. A bit rubbish really.

It's a good film and it did elicit a few chuckles now and then. It also makes it's political leanings very clear, not that I mind. Would recommend watching it, Cohen is an original, he has his unique brand of humor....
Definitely not as much laughs "BUT" very smile-worthy, wasn't everything i expected but maybe 'the movie served a higher purpose and exposed many hypocrisies in America "IN REAL TIME" ' or some shit.

The introduction to this review starts with one word: OUGH.
Make no mistake in assumption about this movie: It is politically incorrect, gross, misogynistic, racist and stupid. The good news in this is that most of this gross stuff is turned around, the stereotypes it starts with are basically shown to be not true.
I think the presentation of Kazakhstan, and especially it's people, was unnecessary for all of it's messages however, and I can fully understand every outrage about these parts and suggested images of them.
It took me a while to realize that apart of the Kazakhstan part and the character Borat and his played daughter pretty much everyone is not an actor and was not giving insight about the movie, or which kind of movie it would become.
It really wonders and baffles me how they pulled all of this off: What they did do, and maybe more how they must have filmed it. Because I have my doubts that they went around with a huge visible camera.
It is just absurd, and who they found and pranked in it, you would be like "nobody is ever like this" - except they were.
Some of the most absurd parts include a handbook for how girls are to be raised, and what they are not allowed to in Kazakhstan, such as driving a car or being a journalist. Take this a step further, as it was likely intended to be, and it shall be applies to religious conservatives and the bible.
Others conspiracy theories about Democrats, covid19, and Jews, and either disproving them, mocking them by calling the believers scientists or well...even topping them with one of it's own.
The other thing...well, they surely don't know any boundaries. But it also must mean you need to be pretty tough to act in this movie; Whether it is posing in a weird Borat mankini, making the most indiscreet remarks, including racist or antisemitic, to...well offering oneself as a woman visually to a crowd. You really need the correct actors for that willing to do, I suppose.
"fun" fact 1: The people of Kazakhstan did create a petition with 100k people who signed against the release of the movie. Also, no scenes were shot in Kazakhstan.
fun fact 2: I wonder if the movie had a take in guns getting temporary removed from Walmart. There is a scene where one supposingly got one from there and opens fire, and the movie got released on 23th Oct - the guns were removed before 30th Oct.

Movie was okay enough. The most damaging part was seeing Mike Pence downplay Covid-19 early on at the rally.
NOT as good as the previous ones for sure...extremely boring with only a few interesting scenes..if you expect it to be as good as the previous borat movies you'll be disappointed.

I assume there are some good parts about this movie but the pathetic "jokes" in the beginning didn't make me want to endure more.

[6.8 of 10] The start of the film made me cringe a ton & this is definitely not a movie I would actively choose to watch again but it wasn't bad. Maria Bakalova was excellent & the scenes that focus on her with other characters besides Borat are some of my favorite of the film. I expected it to be a lot worse than it was & was actually pleasantly surprised.
This is nice... uncomfortable fun. Enjoyed the sketches and was brought together well with the developing relationship with his daughter. Her addition was a huge benefit.
Obviously we watch this for the shock humour which worked well this time around. Not the best reflection on parts of the USA...
I don't know if I liked it or I hated it, which is weird. I felt it falsely genuine, the script is all over it but they tried to make us think there is none. There were some funny moments and the criticism against many things is OK. But I expected more.
Can’t believe there’s any Americans that don’t know Borat, but some people are still oblivious to the media. Was surprised that he could still make fun of American people. Any other country would be a no no. Surely there can’t be a third.
This movie tries to capture the magic of the original, but it fails. Just as in the first one, Borat is an idiot journalist ignorant of American culture and deriding it, by first feigning ignorance and then enthusiastically embracing as American the more fringe (and mainstream) elements of it. But whereas the first movie strikes gold because it really does make fun of the more irrational and willingly ignorant parts of American culture, this second one fails because it focuses almost entirely on politics --- and worse, it takes sides.
One could perhaps defend this second movie by observing that politics has been, in recent years, the driving force of American culture, spilling over into all facets of American life, and displacing whatever culture existed with rabid tribalism. Thus, the argument goes, any movie about the culture of the recent years would by necessity have to be about politics. Perhaps. But whereas the first movie boldly derided the cultural norms of all types of Americans by pretending to see them through the unbiased eyes of a very poor country, this second movie seems interested in only making fun of one kind of American: the Republican kind, especially if politically famous. The first movie's genius was in not respecting any Americans. This second movie is merely routine because it embraces one kind of American in its war against the other.
Oh, yes. And just like the first one this movie is way too obscene.

Cohen starts with a good premise (targeting self-righteous Americans) but unfortunately the writing is woefully inadequate. There are a few good lines in here but otherwise this felt really amateurish. Bill Maher did this much better in Religulous.

Although not as hilarious as the first one it still has many funny scenes. The cameo near the end, the ridiculous Country Steve song, "the chair", the scene in the church and the run of the Yankee.
Sacha Baron Cohen still knocks out the ballpark playing Borat, but the real star of this film is Maria Bakalova's performance as Borat's daughter. She's is relentless, funny and fits perfectly next to Borat. The hightlight for me!
But still it wasn't near as funny as Borat, a film I might have watched too much in my younger years, maybe my humor has changed? Maybe I expected too much of the sequel? I think it is about time to revisit Borat's first trip to the US and A! Very Niiice!
In the end though, it is still a niiiice sequel and it didn't bore one bit.

Right off the bat, it doesn't quite compare to the first Borat. It does have its moments, particularly the political moments. The addition of the daughter was a nice touch, she did hold her own. It doesn't have the magic as the first one, since he's not able to catch people by surprise in the Borat costume. The babysitter in the film has a heart of gold.
Finally, Giuliani is definitely a creeper, I've never seen someone tuck in their shirt quite like that.
I keep rating this one lower every time I think about it. It's great to see the Borat character again, and Maria Balkova does a great job as his daughter, as seemingly everyone has said at this point. But the original charm of Borat (and all Sasha Baron Cohen characters) was their ability to slide into reality and show how people reacted when things were out of their comfort zone, or, a little too in it. Unfortunately this movie is almost majority staged and scripted and it doesn't work nearly as well. There are still some funny moments such as the cake decoration/abortion confusion. Also, the Giuliani pay off to end the movie isn't quite as shocking as its made out to be which is a bit of a let down. Overall its a major step down from the ground breaking, hysterical original, but its not a bad way to spend 90 minutes if you're nostalgic for the character.
I haven't seen any Borat movies, just tons of clips, of all his stuff.
I don't know that his earlier Borat movies would hold my interest enough to watch the whole thing.
This was funny enough to hold my interest...after a short wI hile I gave up on wanting to fast forward to the Giuliani bit.
This has some really funny bits...maybe not what you'd wanna watch with your Mother, or your kids, but...OOh, Jeez,' "I put the baby in her..." Don't try to tell me that's not funny. Scripted? Everything is scripted. Timed to release at a critical political moment. I don't think we have any doubts it's supposed to include commentary about what's funniest about our nation's failures, but I don't think we have to worry about Borat interfering with our election either:

Despite that, they get good funny and embarrassing situations (the dance, the two friends, Giuliani ...). Although the scenes between father and daughter are sometimes stretched, it must be recognized the achievement of doing the same, despite the popularity of the character. There is nothing new, but it doesn't matter.
Yea its funny in parts, and its always good to see the unjust of this world get their comeuppance. But we have seen this all before, and while it entertains at times, its not as fresh as it used to be.
