I have no idea why there would be naysayers for this movie! The acting was great. The sacrifices was realistic considering the situation. I loved how they showed the underground network, it all made sense.
I also like how they didn’t focus on the aliens’ look, but the human struggle. Outstanding!!
Don't listen to the disparaging comments, for a budget of $25 million dollars which is a drop in the ocean by today's standards this movie is not bad at all & the storyline is not rambling its as simple as aliens have occupied earth & we the people ie the resistance are going to fight back! If you're looking for another district 9 you're gonna be disappointed but this movie is still worth a watch if not for John Goodman alone
not a great movie, confusing and rambling . It feels like they got a bunch of scenes and just threw them together. And had no idea how to finish it. John Goodman is a plus, but it won't go down as one of his finer efforts.
Highly underrated. This is one of the best Sci-Fi films. Realistic, thrilling, and good- acting all around. Thanks to everyone who made this film!
:heart:x7
I was very surprised by this movie. It is not your average alien invasion movie. There is no big flashy CGI (which is good). The players and their sacrifices felt real. And the ending was a slight surprise and very poignant.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
I don't understand this 63%. At least it gave me the avantage that I had no big expectation when starting to play. But I was very positively surprised! I was browsing Facebook at the same time in the beginning of the movie, and then progressively I stopped playing with my phone and started to realize that it's a pretty good movie!
A complete failure to be interesting in any way.
I’m not gonna lie, I was lost the whole movie. I rated this as an 8.8 out of 10. Awesome freaking ending.
This is not what I was expecting. The aliens are barely seen and this is more about a police state trying to keep people under their control. It's good but I didn't get enough backstory about the initial invasion. John Goodman is terrific, of course.
This should have been a miniseries, and I think it would work great as such. But trying to press all they wanted to do into a movie just did not.
Individual parts of this movie are great. Most parts even. They pulled of some great stuff with the limited budget they had, they got some great actors and they created a really cool world here. But because they couldn't fit everything into the movie format, they had to cut down on a lot of necessary stuff, and it shows.
The pacing is off. A lot of character work is missing. The story is ultimately very limited, almost straightforward if you really strip it down to the key points, yet feels confusing and thrown together because there are all these loose ends that seem to connect to parts of the larger story that just aren't in this movie. And because a lot of story parts are so stripped down, it even sometimes feels like they are telegraphing later reveals, because so much of the surrounding stuff that should be in here and would normally obscure those references is left out of the film.
It's a little frustrating. I appreciate what they achieved given the limitations, but I just can't help but look at all of the seams and stitches in there and miss the miniseries that this should have been.
A film about a resistance group that takes science fiction as a backdrop to build a well-made thriller. But there is nothing particularly remarkable, there is not even a production design that provides especially new ideas. It is a proposal that has a narrative that is somewhat chaotic until it manages to focus on the characters. But when this happens it is too late.
This movie is underrated. All the random pieces collected by just a few seconds at the ending (the memory card video). And you have to rewind the whole movie in your head just to understand how well crafted it was.
This movie is not about aliens. And to tell frankly, I liked some other minor characters more than John's.
It has some cool ideas but it was boring most of the time.
I would not call it captivating...
whatched it twice. It's a gem, brilliant cast , story and atmosphere
No idea why some got so excited about this movie. The acting is average at best, the setting not too inspiring and the end was very predictable.
Fuck me... that was really boring.
If you expect the average action-heavy save the world from alien invasion kinda movie, you are going to to be disappointed. This is much more of a 10 years later kind of dystopian movie, like for example Children of men.
I like that you have to pay attention to figure out how the world works, and how it may have gotten there. The focus is on the people in the network, and it works to such an extend that you feel the sacrifice of characters that had maybe 15 minutes screen time in total, hard ever spoke and you never knew the name of. This honestly should not have worked, but it did, at least for me.
Too bad for words. But I will try; every actors’ expression is constipation, the mixing is awful, sometimes you can’t hear the actors over the score, the very few scenes with aliens are way too dark, there’s virtually no exposition "you figure it out", the retarded ending...
Visually stylish at times and the cast is great. Unfortunately, it goes from one scene to the next with very little coherency and moves to an ending with an unsatisfactory payoff. I wanted to like this more than I did, and while there were moments that were good, there were also too many moments that failed to deliver.
Another movie of the new pamdemic cinema: few expenses, correction and all very bland.
Unfortunately I wasted 30 mins before giving up. No idea of the storyline or who these characters are. Shambolic.
Decent movie, worth the watch. Good story line, decent acting and writing. All in all I enjoyed it. Good solid 8 out of 10.
This is not what I was expecting. The aliens are barely seen and this is more about a police state trying to keep people under their control. It's good but I didn't get enough backstory about the initial invasion. John Goodman is terrific, of course.
When I had first saw the trailer for Captive State, it looked like it could be the next big sci-fi blockbuster... then initial reviews were middling so I put off watching it. After having gotten to it, I think the reviews were simply looking for what I was--a big budget, effects laden, future war movie. Instead, it's a story of underground resistance, sacrifice, and misdirection. The world that was built was very believable and the characters felt real & true. What really capped off this generally solid sci-fi thriller was that the ending had some twists & turns that were either expected or surprising. The only downside is there were enough intriguing ideas throughout the film, you weren't given enough time to explore them all. This could very easily have worked as a television show or longer mini-series. All in all, solid sci-fi that isn't simply a reboot or rehash of existing properties.
Great plot twist, but somewhat predictable from the middle of the story. Average performances, but ultimately worth seeing as entertainment.
Probably the worst movie I've ever seen.
So much build up, so much erratic filming and completely non linear script, so so so little pay off. Not much to write positively about here. Cgi effects for the aliens and the explosive were cool, but that's about where it stops.
The trailer and synopsis might not be the most flattering for this movie, but I actually enjoyed it !
Although not perfect, it will keep you entertained
The idea isn't very original as it has been done multiple times before. So it comes down to the question if this movie adds something new. For my part I can answer that with a sounding "no".
Whole thing feels like it is part two of someting else. You only get a little bit of an explanation at the beginning that doesn't give you enough to delve into the story and connect with the players. Alltogether it felt like some of those youth novels that were made into movies. Not very engaging. Was bored pretty fast and decided to get out about half an hour before the ending.
Sure, every movie finds it's audience. But even with a low budget of 25m$ this bombed at the box office. And from where I stand I can see why.
Save yourself!!! I tapped out after 20 minutes this movie sucks!!!
Was a bit cautious bij de 63 score but thats a bit too less for this one. Liked the plot there were some good elements in it. Was expecting terrible acting/special effects but on the contrary. Quite good, just a nice movie.
i love john goodman but this film was terribly boring
Not good, at all. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, it would be a waste of their time. This movie had potential but was just (very) poorly executed. Confusing, sloppy, "what factor" (in a bad way), I agree with the other comments especially Paul's. Don't waste your time watch something else.

Finally got around to seeing this one. Glad I did. I cared about the characters, and was intrigued about the alien tech/ and alien relationship w the legislature. Low budget good acting SciFi drama. Beware that it's mostly about the relationships of folks and not on an action heavy battle. That said the tension built is palpable and very well done. I'll leave it there. 7.6 for me. Bravo.
