Positive:
This film was amazing. This was my first time watching the film all the way through and Tom Hanks does an amazing job imagining everything. This film was a filming masterpiece. The way Tom Hanks acts off just a volleyball is nothing short of amazing. Plus, the injuries look very real and they do an amazing job accurately portraying the amount of blood that would be caused by these injuries.
Negatives:
This film is very long and it might draw you away before you can finish the actual movie. About 3/4 of the way it did start to drag on for a but but I absolutely loved the ending.
Overall:
This movie is a must watch and I highly recommend watching this. This movie will have you gripped from the start to the finish. I can now fully understand why Cast Away is a classic.
It was pretty good. Great airplane crash for sure.
"I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing, because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?"
Gotta love a good one man survivor movie! My favourite thing in these movies is always how crafty they get with how little they have. I don't know why, it's just as satisfying as those ridiculous life hack videos on instagram, except in these movies they actually have some, nay, every, use.
And of course... Tom Hanks. One of the greats. But I think the scene stealer has to be Wilson, man, what a presence, what a talent.
Nah, now seriously, it's a great movie, but I'm probably 18 years too late with watching it, because since Cast Away's release there have been a billion more stranded on a deserted island movies, and this one doesn't feel that special. I'm sure it was when it came out though and... again... Tom Hanks.
8/10
WILSOOONNNN!!! ... need I say anymore??
so heartbreaking!
he came back from the island and he felt more alone than ever in his room.
loved the ending, “And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?”
Some of my favourite films have come from Zemeckis and Cast Away is one of them and it’s the only film that a volly ball called wilson can make me cry. Wilson!! Tom Hanks never gets boring and always pulls off a great performance.
It's OK. I found some of logic questionable, and this movie forces you to think logically. And it's predictable. You know he'll evolve as a survivor, and it's OK to watch but predictable. There are many obvious setups that you know will be resolved.
I hate this movie with a passion. I will never escape people shouting WILSONNNNNNNNN at me.
Very good movie. Excellent performance from Tom Hanks i.e. the main man. It does show how one person can survive on an island using stuff from FedEx Boxes. I would rate this 7.5/10. Substantial movie. Would definitely recommend. #ShiftvW8
Pretty slow ... nothin like Robinson Crusoe though.
I think just about everyone on the planet is familiar with this film, it’s an enjoyable watch and Tom Hanks does a great job.
different shades of loss and hope.
Yes, yes...it is a movie about a "castaway" as in it is a about a guy who escapes a wreck at sea and is marooned on an island in the middle of nowhere. But the title is not Castaway, it is two words telling us from the beginning we are watching a story about a man who had already been in the process of being cast away by his woman before he ever got on the doomed plane.
Chuck had been aware of the clues that Kelly was having an affair, but he was choosing to give her every benefit of doubt. Had he given her up before getting on the plane that would crash, he wouldn't have had any will to survive the island. On the other hand if Kelly had only stopped Chuck from getting on the plane, likely she'd have ended up a doctor because there was a greater chance, even if she still dumped Chuck for Jerry, her life wouldn't have gotten hijacked by motherhood, marriage, and mortgage.
A sign of a good movie is when it makes you think about the lives of the characters off-screen long after the movie is over. This is one of those movies. Some of the most important parts and themes of this movie are hardly spoken aloud and never served up to an audience because the film maker thinks the audience is dumb.
This is a great movie that is about a lot more than simply a guy surviving a plane crash on an island by talking to a volley ball.
wilson should've gotten at least a best supporting actor nomination i'm pissed
What a classic. Good movie.
Cast Away is a fantastic movie that has an original script, an intriguing storyline, and an outstanding performance by Tom Hanks. The movie provides a great insight into the psychological effects of loneliness and survival, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster. Hanks captures the character's emotional turmoil and physical struggle with outstanding realism. The cinematography is excellent, immersing you in the beauty and harshness of nature.
I've never seen this movie before but after I read Robinson Crouso I decided to watch it. I thought it's the same but I had to realize pretty soon that is not haha I very liked it btw and I don't know how I haven't seen it yet. I hoped that Friday will appear but we got Wilson instead and it's okay too :) Tom Hanks is awesome as always but it isn't a surprise :)
There's really a whole lot more to this than just Tom Hanks alone on an island. It works on a visceral level as a straightforward tale of survival amidst the harshest conditions imaginable, but underneath the surface there's all manner of allegorical goodness also at play. It's intense and powerful no matter how you choose to take it, though, and that's the sign of a real masterwork.
That whole stack of cards teeters on Hanks's work in the central role, of course, and he flat-out crushes it. In a way, his whole career up to this point has been preparing him for this kind of an effort; I can see shreds of many of his earlier roles, alive in his gamut of expressions, as he slowly, grimly comes to terms with the fact that there's no form of rescue on the horizon. He's familiar but lost, a modern-day everyman denied his tool belt, stripped bare to the very core of his being. It's an all-world performance, easily among the best of his career, though it didn't quite draw the accolades that his turns in Philadelphia or Forrest Gump enjoyed.
Behind the lens, Robert Zemeckis also hands in some of his best work. Experimenting with before-their-time camera angles and quick, effective snapshots of daily life on the island, he's able to evolve his craft without losing touch with his typically warm, lush brand of storytelling. And, needless to say, Cast Away's famous crash scene remains one of film's most historically intense, white-knuckle rides. I didn't realize I'd been holding my breath until it was all over. A fantastic picture that only stumbles in the payoff, lingering in the moment for longer than it really should, then momentarily giving in to its indulgent, romantic side.
