Catch-22 1970

I think this movie would be much more popular in film history if it hadn't been released so close to M.A.S.H. Their overlapping themes of cynicism toward war and bureacracy are set during two different wars but are quite similar. Catch 22 suffers a little from it non-chronological story telling. If you listen to the bonus feature commentary, they admit that they didn't get it just right and many people miss key points throughout the movie due to it's use. I loved the use of the circular dialogue style and the scene where the doc and Yossarian define the Catch 22 is top notch. There are some outstanding early roles for actors with Martin Sheen, Art Garfunkel, Bob Newhart, Jon Voight and a terrific performance by Alan Arkin as our anti-hero. The slam on military logic was so well done that you almost actually believe Milo that it was necessary to make a deal with the Germans to bomb our own base due to the price of cotton dropping. Lots of laughs mixed with irony make this one very special.
