Chaos Walking 2021

Although I hated the new Star Wars movies, I liked Daisy Ridley.

Its nice to see her in a good movie.
The movie itself is pretty good. Although it is pretty obvious what happened to the women, since the "coverstory" just doesn't make sense.
It would have been unrealistic had it happened on the whole planet (since its hard to reproduce without women and some men do have brains you know...), but it happening in a single settlement is realistic and sadly not too far fetched (although looking at reality it looks more like men will start to get murdered soon - I don't think it'll take too long until someone converts the popular disgusting hashtag into reality on some level...)

It's surprisingly good. Then again I also liked Jupiter Ascending and the Star Wars sequels so maybe I just like bad scifi.
Anyway I quite liked the visual aspect of the noise, like the wall thing. Looked real cool.

I would say this is a time passing movie but no. It's not catchy. Maybe it has an interesting plot for some people but they have shot the movie quite boring.
Ridley and Holland are doing what's expected for such a movie, running around and creating action. Just thumbs up for Mikkelsen. Ordinary movie...

The cast were sound and played their roles alright, I thought action was good but would of liked more and I feel the story was lacking and not enough information. I liked the effect they call noise (Their own thoughts) because it was interesting and feel they was more to show on it also something different, also I did feel some of film was cheap so yeah it needs improvements but it was entertaining. If they was gonna be a sequel to this film I wouldn't say no but hardly likely.

Under a new premise - which, of course, comes from a novel - Chaos Walking ends up revealing itself as a confusing space western that doesn't quite add up. I don't know if it's more audible in the original version, but the film's concept of "noise" ends up revealing itself as such, being confusing and very difficult to understand to the ear. I imagine that it is one of those things that is much better reflected in the novel.

A mediocre film that clearly borrows from actors who are now more than recognised, but who were much more accessible when they hadn't yet risen to stardom (the film was announced in 2011). The visual effects are just as confusing, and at times it's unclear what's going on.

Rey and Peter weren't very convinced to their new universe. ;>

I liked it. It seems a lot of people didn't? I'm not sure why. I think the idea feels unique, Tom and Daisy are both great actors, as is Mads, and the visualization of the noise was really cool. I liked the world they set up, and I would have liked to see a sequel if this was more successful, but it seems this movie didn't perform well enough for a sequel, so that's unlikely unfortunately.

Meh, its okay, the ending felt a bit rushed, and, as always, the book is better. Just wish they executed it a bit better but it wasn't all too bad.

I actually like the concept of literally thinking out loud. It's a very interesting concept and they already made it known as they tried to make it look like some super power when they portray someone as a trick. Would be cool if they could do something more with that and make a sequel or pre-quel to show why only men are affected by the thinking out loud thingy and not the women. This movie has potential if they know how to make it right ^^ Oh and i need to see Todd get that kiss he's been hoping for too XD

Refreshing Story and good visualisation of the core. Love Daisy and Tom and how they interact. Chemistry that works very well.

An extremely enjoyable movie with a refreshingly different sci-fi premise.

loading replies

In this science fiction film with a western aesthetic, the idea of noise is not at all cinematic

loading replies

The title defines the film, a chaos that has definition problems and a narrative that jumps constantly. Chaos in the adaptation of a trilogy into a single movie, or simply that the idea of showing the thoughts would work if the thoughts weren't so insubstantial. Hasty chaos in the ending. The chaos in the filming in 2017, the reshoots with Fede Álvarez and the script rewrites, that is an impossible mix to digest.

'noise' visuals and Tod acting are good. rest movie aspects are lame.

loading replies

Despite the movie's troubled journey to the screen - a literal case of chaos walking - this wasn't that bad. Admittedly, I haven't read the book so I can't compare the two, but even if it didn't stick closely, there is still much to enjoy here. Holland and Ridley are great, the 'noise' was cleverly done, and the plot held my interest to the end. A sequel is unlikely given the reception it has received in some quarters, and this is a shame, as there is scope for a decent franchise here.

For some brain off type sci-fi action, I enjoyed it

I don't think I would survive in that kind of environment. My thoughts are not fit for anyone else but me to see and know.
Other than that, this was a pretty good movie. I liked how the friendship was built between Viola & Todd. It brought a certain sweetness to the otherwise crazy world.
There is also of course so many questions left unanswered. So many things left to explore. Whether it comes in sequel form or a tv show, it would be greatly welcome.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Too much crappy teen angst, too much repeated dialog, And the brain fart aesthetics were an eyesore. It exemplifies the worst of the YA genre

loading replies

I really enjoyed the movie, but it left ALOT of questions unanswered. They set up the movie for a sequel that I hope explains what's going on.

Fine enough movie based on a book I haven't read. The concept is interesting and the plot moves well because of charismatic leads in Holland and Ridley. Mads Mikkelsen is always great, especially in villain roles. The noise effect was interesting and well-made as well as its representation into a visual format. The movie is great for those looking for something curious and well made. The small dirt is that the movie's message was, if that was intended, shallow but I lack interest and motivation to debate about it.

I’m surprised this was actually not bad!

It's a political left wing disaster with a plot that makes no sense

I don't get the hate from critics. Sure, it's nothing groundbreaking, but it's lots of fun. Great leads, obviously. Reminds me of the Hunger Games.

Fairly close to being a good film, for me at least.

I could see something positive coming from 'Chaos Walking' at differing moments, though unfortunately all in all it does end up being a pretty underwhelming 109 or so minutes. It holds an interesting concept and I was very much willing it to come to fruition in an entertaining manner but it never does.

The 'inner' monologue thing does get a tad annoying, it isn't amazingly implemented via special efforts nor audio - less would've been more, especially of the phrase "control your noise" which is said too often for my liking. The characters, including the main two, could've been far stronger as well, though the acting talent themselves actually do OK.

Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland are good names to have attached, though I didn't sense enough onscreen chemistry between the two. Mads Mikkelsen is alright, David Oyelowo's character is probably the only one who didn't intrigue me from the main bunch; the filmmakers could've utilized him better.

No surprise to see that this has been received poorly. I didn't dislike it, though I can't really defend it all that strongly either.

I found this movie completely by accident. What a pleasant surprise!
It's actually quite good and original too.
Lot's of action and it moves at a good pace as well.

Solid 8.5/10

From director Doug Liman comes the science-fiction thriller Chaos Walking. When a scout from a colony ship crashes on a planet where men’s thoughts are physically projected, the leader of one of the settlements sees her as a threat, and sensing the danger she’s in, she attempt to escape and gets help from a young farm boy. Starring Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, and Mads Mikkelson, the cast is pretty good and delivers strong performances. And Liman does an impressive job at creating tension and suspense, and at visualizing the thoughts. The storytelling however, is rather poor and the pacing can be painfully slow (especially in the beginning). Chaos Walking explores some interesting concepts and has some exciting actions, but its ambitions are greater than what it’s able to achieve.

I really liked it, maybe because I love post-apocalyptic settings.
The movie left many answers, doubts, questions but I found out that there is a book, a trilogy and I'm happy that all my questions will be answered

The commercials made this out to be a freaking western. What if I wasn’t bored? I would have never clicked on this.

The draw, for me, was Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley and they were the charm of this movie. But, in this case, charm couldn't carry the day. The story is flat. The locations are beautiful. I'm told the movie is nothing like the books. The whole work needed more depth. The majority of my rating will be on the strength of casting choices and performance. I give this film a 6 (fair) out of 10. [SciFi]

Great visuals, but very thin plot. The characters were not deep at all. It was also a bit too sexist for me.

loading replies

As a major fan of the books this was disappointing, I was really hoping for more, but it was still an enjoyable movie that isn't as bad as I was expecting.

All things said this is a pretty good movie. Fresh story line, very good acting. I really enjoyed watching.

When i first saw the trailer i was excited to see this movie and when it came out; i heard a lot of bad reviews about it so i skipped it till today when i couldn't decide what movie to watch and picked this movie..i didn't have a high expectations and prepared myself for a disappointment but by doing so;i found this movie enjoyable, I'm intrigued by the new idea of the movie or this planet,Tom acting is funny and kept me attached to the story as always..
For me the only bad thing is the ending,it could have been better but in overall time weren't wasted in this movie.

loading replies

This could have been a great film, it is let down by not enough back story, yes some may say thats part of the plot but the ending is hurried and there are better things to watch.

loading replies

I don't understand the positive reviews. I mean, I just don't get what there was to like. The story was dull. The camerawork was competent but not interesting or attractive. All the acting was fine, but this is hardly a career highlight for anyone involved. Do they like that they can connect Bond to Marvel to Star Wars with one movie? That's the only value I found in the entire event...

loading replies

Was pretty good, actually. I think it makes a good beginning for a TV Series maybe?

loading replies

Great movie. Very much enjoyed. Tom Holland in a great role. Daisy Ridley.... Not so much. Still very enjoyable and I don't understand some of the negatieve reviews I saw. I'm a fan of most of Doug Liman his work, this surely was another.

loading replies

I'm a sucker for any Mads Mikkelsen movie.
It's a weird concept but I enjoyed the movie overall

loading replies

there is taking liberties with the source material.... and then there is making a story that completely writes itself into a corner, when two books are still out there and now completely impossible to film.

loading replies

I'm starting to get sick of Tom Holland

loading replies

Cool premise but it was very generic in its story and themes. Great acting but nothing special.

Yay! Two gay dads!
Boo! They killed them!
Noo... stop burying the gays! I would have thought a gay author would've known better than to do that

One of the IMDB trivia points was saying how Todd imagined kissing Viola, but "there's no explanation how would Todd know about the custom and meaning of kissing". UMMM... did they forget gay people exist??? Hello, two gay dads!

loading replies

Gosh, this would be an amazing TV show if exectuted correctly!!

I came into watching this expecting what we've been getting lately. Woman saves man from his detrimental self. It was kind of that but not necessarily all of that. Peppering good actors in with the super dry 2 main characters made it OK.
