Awesome concept but executed poorly.. It wasn't super bad, but often slow and parts don't really make sense specially around the ending.
For a film that promised much, it ultimately offered very little. The concept is neat but in its telling, the film is a little jumbled. Stylistically, it's sometimes interesting but the story isn't strong enough to match the good intentions. Less Commodore 64 and more ZX81. A shame.
not really good, but also not really bad. some nice scenes, a good soundtrack and interesting twists. but the rest ist boring and stupid. and not scary at all.
Out of all the Netflix movies I’ve seen so far this year (most of them), this one is (in my humble opinion) one of the better offerings and I was pleasantly surprised by how genuinely tense and nerve-wracking some of the game level sequences were. I also loved the ambiance and stylistic flair of the film.
The idea was decent. Unfortunately the movie is a bowl of warm garbage.:poop::wastebasket:
3/10Seen this idea done much much better and way more super interest.Black Mirror BanderSnatch blows this one clean out of the water. This one just didn't do it for me.
Super interesting movie. Centers around the theme of code that’s capable of influencing the material world, existing through a vintage video game. Skipped parts, but found the majority to be very interesting. Has elements of a psychological thriller tied with thought provoking sci fi.
That's a great movie idea! Well done, good horror movie with some 80's style
Not a great movie but fun to watch of you like this kind of movies.
This is one of the most nonsensical horror films I've seen in recent memory. So nonsensical to the point it's painful to watch. The worst part is knowing that it could’ve done better with this concept, it just sucks that the script constantly throws logic out the window in attempts to make oh-so-cool moments. The film begins with a very interesting story but ends up becoming another awful entry of deadly games horror. I like that they put effort into the visual and effects, wish they put the same amount of effort into the lore and the characters. Do not choose this film or you'll suffer the consequences.
:heart:x6This is a decent horror/thriller. Not great, but different and good enough to enjoy.
How I rate:1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this7-8  = I expect you will like this too9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Started off good, but it was obvious from the title sequence that it is going to rehash a number of other stories requiring the prey to distribute copies to save themselves from further horrific decisions. At that point I lost interest. I turned it off after we meet the main character that is completely uninteresting. I already don't care if she lives or dies, or has to make ridiculous decisions for the sake of over the top violence.
plenty of 80s vibes (including the lead yelling FUCK THE 80S at one point) and a few pretty creepy moments, but overall mediocre. still, it's watchable.
Great soundtrack, but I wouldn't expect any less from Liam Howlett.
love, love, love the ending. great movie. loved it
Going in, expecting this to be your bog standard cursed cast flix, I must say that, like @mads, I found myself pleasantly surprised, and at times doing the "oh crap, peeking through the fingers hand mask" in anticipation of the unknown. Not that this movie is gory in any sense of the word, (in fact it's quite tame by todays standards) but, that it was indeed nerve-rackingly tense. The lead cast did a Yeoman's job with the material they had to work with, and OG Robert Englund providing the familiarly creepy voice-overs where needed.
Seeing how a plot point was made concerning the proliferation of the game, and, noting that the opt out in some cases may involve the death of one or more participants, this has the potential to become another franchise "B'ish" movie. My only other question is, did she or didn't she?:
This one was hard for me to rate. I liked it, and I didn't, but I really liked it. It was predictable and had some neat tricks to it but it was also trying to hard. The ending probably made me like this better. Though that was also too predictable. Maybe I've just seen too many horror films? :person_shrugging:♀
