Christopher and His Kind 2011

Matt Smith is excellent in his role as Isherwood. He joins fellow lodgers in Berlin during the build up to the Second World War. All his companions are sexually open minded and a joy to see in this era. But the threat of the nazis pulls a dark curtain over Isherwood’s happy existence. He then struggles to continue his gay flings in Berlin and has to flee the country.

The great thing about this film is you never know what’s coming next. However it does lag through the final 30 minutes as we skip back and forth between Europe.
It has some interesting quotes and a memorable Jean Ross played by Imogen Poots who delivers some of the best lines.
I loved it
9/10.

The film is good. Unfortunately, there are some historical inaccuracies. The Cosy Corner is not located in a cellar, but is a street-corner pub. The double-s runes don’t belong on SA uniforms.
