I didn't expect much from the movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It catches your attention and I thought it was a very good adaptation. Helena Bonham Carter was simply amazing.
For me, Helena Bonham Carter was the star of this movie; even though her character didn't get that much screen time, she made an unconventional fairy godmother. Other than that, the movie seemed rather bland to me. The music was pretty good and the scenery was breathtaking at times, but it was nothing more than just an adaptation of the well known animated movie. I wish we got to see more of Cate Blanchett's stepmother, explore her past and see why she became the way she was. In overall, I guess I liked 'Maleficent' much better.
very pleasantly surprised by this one. while it wasn't a perfect 10 of a movie, it was still a really nice, simple, touching movie, with good acting. and bonus; it was made in 2015, just before all this woke mess started really kicking in, and it shows, by being a much higher quality film.
A fabulous re-telling of the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Most things are kept the same which I like, as it is perfect the way it is. Adore the dress and graphically the film is beautiful. Lily James makes the perfect Cinderella. Remember have courage and be kind.
A classic story told in a grand scale thanks to Kenneth Branagh's lavish and colorful live action adaptation. This is old school romance, where a girl meets her prince charming. Lily James is the perfect Cinderella, but it is Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother who steals the show. Along with awe-inspiring sets and costumes, this Disney fairytale should restore faith in the child in all of us and in fairytales themselves.
They were successful in their attempt to make everything about this story fresh: the acting, the costumes, the scenery, the production in general. Except for the story. That, they made quite stupid
This is my favorite Disney live action. In my opinion, it was the only one that remained true to the animation movie, while adapting some outdated things that no longer fit our generation, without losing the magic and enchantment of fairy tales. The chemistry of the protagonists is amazing, and they convey to be a perfect fit. The story is well adapted for today's audience, without getting lost in other stereotypes in the name of a shallow “deconstruction”. The costumes are a work of art, the cast is beautiful, the stepmother's steals the show near the end of the movie. Only the original songs were missing, but for me, it was a single remake to be as perfect as it could be with all the quality and magic of Disney. Amazing movie!!
A terrific cast and an absolute delight to watch! Leaves you with a genuine fuzzy feeling at the end -- and the cinematography was gorgeous!
even though i know the story by heart yet i found myself enjoying the movie, i loved Cate Blanchett's role in this!
Not expecting much and I liked it, Cinderella and Prince are good and there is chemistry between them. The bad people well
Depth 5/10
Acting 7/10
Pacing 4/10
Respect to the Disney classic 3/10
Visuals 7/10
It's an alright movie for children... It's a really low graded 6/10 for any adult.
Disney really is holding the standard of mediocrity the last 15 years.
Doesn't really set itself apart from the slew of cash-grab remakes Disney have been pumping out. Here was a great opportunity to put a twist on the original's "damsel in distress saved by magic and then by prince charming" premise, by giving her some girl power (which would fit right in with the forced diversity agenda). Instead they deliver a streamlined rehash, with the adventure parts cut out and some baffling alterations.
The step-family are supposed to be ugly women but oddly enough all three are prettier than Lily James. The most satisfying part of the original—Cinderella producing the matching slipper after the strayed one shattered—is flipped around for no apparent reason.
Just an unnecessary title.
An improvement on Disney's past attempt from 1950.
I do like the animated version from the studio, but this 2015 release of 'Cinderella' makes for a more enjoyable experience in my eyes. Lily James and Richard Madden are smart choices to play Cinderella and Prince, while Cate Blanchett is impressive as the Stepmother. Helena Bonham Carter (Fairy Godmother), Stellan Skarsgård (Grand Duke) and Nonso Anozie (Captain) are also noteworthy.
The premise has a few changes, the ending plays out slightly differently compared to the '50 production - to positive effect. It also makes the nastiness of Blanchett's character unmistakably clear, I actually felt hatred for her - which wasn't the case, at least to the same extent, with the original.
Good viewing.
An incredible adaptation to the well-known fairy tale. Lily James makes a sweet Cinderella, and though the root of her portrayal is more emphasised on the girl being being kind even through hardships which is not at all new, she did well to encourage a fresh look into the princess. Every location was thoroughly breathtaking, from the lush, country home to the great king's palace. I especially loved all the colours and vibrance. The music was such a neat tie-in as well - the notes of Lavender's Blue in certain scenes was something that I responded well to - it uplifted everything to an aesthetically pleasing film overall.
I'd give bonus points to Cate Blanchett, whose acting felt almost unmatched in every scene she was in.
I'll admit, I didn't know what I was going into when I first started watching - I know of the story too well. Still, it was enjoyable to watch through to the very end.
I love this version of Cinderella. Lilly James is perfectly cast as Cinderella. Sandy Powell’s costumes are a character all on their own. Especially Elle’s ball gown and Lady Tremaine’s gowns. I just wish “Lavender Blue” was in the soundtrack.
Disney told the story quite well. Nothing new, but what more could we expect? ;)
My mom took me to see this for my birthday last year! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Very poor, there is no magic in this movie.
Even fairy godmother looks...well...hard to say!
Hardly missing too:
Sala-gadoola-menchicka-boo-la bibbidi-bobbidi-boo
Bibbidi-bobbidi, bibbidi-bobbidi, bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.
This movie has such a beautiful message: have courage and be kind.
Exactly as expected. I did not like this movie that much. The acting was not great for most parts. The special effects were good but didn't improve the movie too much. Altogether a quite boring movie unfortunately. Didn't notice the music at all…
Like many kids of my generation, I grew up watching Disney productions on television and VHS tape...but I was always more partial to the live-action flicks. My favorites were George of the Jungle, Flubber, and My Favorite Martian, not Aladdin, The Lion King, or Beauty and the Beast. Lately, the House of Mouse has decided to go back to its roots by recreating their beloved animated classics in live action form, and, I have to say, this one was done very well. The special effects were excellent, the performances outstanding--especially by Helena Bonham Carter, whose role here was much different than in the Harry Potter flicks--and the story kept me interested, even though we all know how it ends. Better yet, an ethnically diverse cast and a stronger heroine made this an improvement on the original. All in all, great stuff.
Content Concerns: I won't do my usual listing; all I'll say is that, as you might expect, the makers kept things pretty clean here. No sex; no profanity, save for one misuse of the Lord's name; violence is limited to comedic pratfalls; all in all, usual Disney fare. The one exception is the wardrobe: Cinderella and other women wear low-cut outfits throughout. That's the only negative aspect of the film, really; it's a shame it had to be included.
Score: 4/5
Cinderella is a classic story that I love watching over and over again no matter how many times and ways it is done. This adaptation was wonderfully done. The casting was amazing and even though I know the story by heart I felt the actors and actresses brought something new to their characters that I enjoy. This live action Disney movie is an A+ in my book.
Well since we’re vaguely on a live-action Disney remake theme I thought it might be time to catch up with Kenneth Branagh’s take on the fairy tale.
Surprisingly enough this version of Cinderella works rather well. It’s a beautifully made film with a magical quality that sweeps you up effortlessly. Where The Jungle Book was a bland exercise in CG imagery, this is a film made with real passion and a keen eye for detail.
It’s not without its failings. Cinderella herself just isn’t a particularly interesting character, she’s too much of a goody two-slippers to be much fun. That said, the prince is a bit snooze-worthy too, so when the two meet it feels like a match made in heaven.
Smarter people than I might moan about this film promoting the notion that women can’t live without men. It’s definitely an aspect of the story that might be considered old-fashioned. However, Branagh doesn’t seem to care and just tells the story as it has always been told, focusing instead on the real themes that drive the narrative.
Not that the film does a dis-service to women - Cate Blanchett’s evil step-mother is far and away the most compelling character. She brings a surprising amount of complexity to the role while still managing to entertain as the pantomime villain.
Cinderella doesn’t bring anything new to the table, but it’s beautiful and disarmingly earnest. There are no self-aware jokes, or even any attempts to modernise the story, Branagh just tells it like it is. It’s a rare beast in an age where it feels like everything must contain pop culture references and ‘jokes for the parents’.

I loved every second and every detail.
Slightly different spin on the classic tale, she did well for herself, Cinderella
For the 1st time no tears with a Disney movie, however it was a great movie to see. It is weird though seeing Helena Bonham Carter in the role of a good person, her time was way to limited! Think she would've made an amazing Stepmother!
Nothing original, a dull re-run cliche.
It's always nice to see Disney princesses movies being brought to live. This was surprisingly well done as i thought they were gonna overuse on the current gen technology but thankfully, they only threw in chunk of the magic that was required and the rest were pure acting. I love this!
This is the reason why Rob Stark died at the Red Wedding.

While I am not really a fan of the Cinderella story line, the movie was visually stunning and had (mostly) great acting. I liked it more than the 1950's Disney movie.
