So many changes from the book. Some unnecessary. I think the contract between Tom Clancy and the movie studio was something like, "Sell us the names of the characters in your book and we will use 28% of your story to make a movie". If there is one person in the world who has read a Tom Clancy novel and then thought, "Who should they cast as John Clark?" - a larger powerful ex-Navy SEAL and then came up with Willem Dafoe- well they're on drugs. No pun intended with this movie.

A typical Tom Clancy film that delivers all the action, intrigue, and political drama that fans of the genre have come to expect. Harrison Ford's performance is a great, bringing depth and nuance to the role of Jack Ryan. All in all, if you're a fan of the Tom Clancy universe or just enjoy a good political thriller, Clear and Present Danger is definitely worth a watch.

Even though it's a bit outdated, this was still a great movie. Sure, it was a political thriller - duh - but it had an adequate amount of action sequences and the clearly defined roles of "good guy/bad guy" made it easy to watch. Granted, the conclusion was kind of foreseeable, but it still made for a good film. NOTE: If you "just do no like Harris Ford as an actor…" it seems like you'd probably want to steer clear of movies that clearly promote him as the lead character. Duh. Some peoples' kids... This was a fun watch and I felt like all the cast pulled off their roles very well. I admit, I have NOT read the novel (yet) so I can't honestly compare this to the book...but when do movies EVER live up to being the equivalent of a written piece? If you read the novel, chances are the screenplay is going to leave you disappointed...at least by a little bit. Otherwise, I found this a great political thriller and well worth watching.

I'm starting to understand why Tom Clancy regretted giving the studios the rights to film some of his books.

Clear and Present Danger would have been an ok movie...if it hadn't been for the screenplay writers totally ignoring the source material...yet again.

While this movie is a bit better than the Ford predecessor, it's nowhere near as good as the book.

So, as with Patriot Games, you could probably have a good time watching Clear and Present Danger...if you didn't know the book.

Do you see a pattern forming here?!?

When will the idiots learn? Trust the source material!!!! Especially when it's written by a best-selling author...

A smart and compelling dramatic thriller, Clear and Present Danger delivers an exciting adventure based on a bestselling Tom Clancy novel. When Jack Ryan is appointed Deputy Director of the CIA he’s unwittingly used by the President to launch a covert military operation against the Colombian drug cartels. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Ryan, and is joined by Willem Dafoe and Benjamin Bratt. Especially well-written, the films does a good job at developing the story and at drawing in the audience. Also, the directing is quite effective at building tension and drama. Clear and Present Danger is an impressive and entertaining action film that’s even better than the previous entry in the series.

Harrison Ford last repeats like Jack Ryan. Cover your back would be a phrase that would define the film. Years without seeing it and I still like it

Like Patriot Games before this, it's another solid spy action movie. The drama is good. The action scenes are good but there are too few. This movie is a little too long. Harrison Ford is great again.

Everything you´d expect from a Clancy based Jack Ryan movie. Suspense, action, political intrigue - it´s all there.

Personally I liked Red October a little bit more because of the military setting. But in general both movies are great to watch. Althought in both cases I recommend the books, too.

Is this where I can admit that this is my favorite post-Cold War spy movie, and is maybe my favorite spy movie period? I know it's not for everyone, but some stuff about it just hit all the notes I want from a big sprawling one of these.

Clancy's best movie outing to date.

Mediocre action flick with too much political aspects for my taste and almost no thrilling sequences. Additionally I just do no like Harris Ford as an actor very much and therefore it didn't help that he played the lead role...
