Collective 2019

No matter what, the same shit everywhere.

The journalist and the politician. The verification of a network of corruption and bribery in Romanian hospitals is shown in an intense, forceful film, which is developed as an observation documentary about the putrefaction of an entire system. While the first part (journalism) is incisive, the second part (politics) may seem propagandist, but the essence of the story is to show how a State can betray its citizens.

Collective is a very interesting look at Romanian corruption in the healthcare system.

I didn't know what to expect going into this at Sundance, but it really delivered. The pacing of the movie seemed well done, and the documentary style used was really cool.

Director Alexander Nanau explained afterwards he puts the camera crews in the rooms, but they are there purely for observation, and it really gave an interesting look into everything going on.

There was a question afterwards about if this was all a documentary, or if parts were done by actors. I believe the question came from the absurdity of some of the things that happened, but no. This was all the real people.

Overall I'd highly recommend.

This is a hard hitting documentary that does not shy away from showing us the reality of how the Romanian government and their ministers work.

It was really upsetting knowing that people could have easily survived and that death was unnecessary but greed and corruption was the priority.

Definitely worth a watch and I’m glad this was nominated for oscars as it puts the documentary in the spotlight and more people would be aware about the issues surrounding Romania.
