Crazy/Beautiful 2001

Kirsten Dunst leads the cast in Crazy/Beautiful, and unconventional romantic drama about star-crossed lovers. When the troubled daughter of a congressman falls for an overachieving football player from the inner city, the two begin a torrid romance. The plot’s a little formulaic and falls into some of the trappings of high school love stories, but the writing puts some new spins on the material that keeps it fresh. And, Dunst gives an outstanding performance that shows impressive depth and range. Additionally, the soundtrack is especially well-done and brings a lot of energy and passion to the film. Despite having a few clichés, Crazy/Beautiful is a smart and sincere film with compelling characters.

"I want to be good for you."

When it comes to teen drama, I guess this one probably does it best. The material feels a little rehashed, but Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez were made for these roles and made it a heartfelt story.
