4/10
The beginning was bad and unfortunately the film was full of cliches. Creed was too focused on the emotional parts with some cheap attempts to gain empathy for the characters, like the hearing impairment. The Rocky Franchise always had a lot of emotional bits but they were bearable to watch. I also think the performances weren't great. The first really good thing in the film was around the one hour mark, the boxing fight, it was pretty well shot. I liked the original media Integration with HBO Sports, Sports Center and PTI. In the end Creed is a weak film
Doesn't quite deliver the knock out punch I hoped for. Still, an enjoyable movie and better than the majority of the Rocky sequels. The franchise should probably retire from the fight, however.
This was just Rocky remade. Yawn
Good movie but he's no Apollo
Only out of respect for Sylvester Stallone 7/10.
Holy fuck this movie is awful, I don't get how anyone can praise it. The only parts that were good were the fight scenes and some of the training scenes. They did a pretty decent job putting you into the ring with the boxers but that's literally it. The story is complete nonsense, the acting was was below awful, and it was rife with random meaningless bullshit. Two scenes particularly stick in my mind in a way that is so awful that it becomes hilarious. One is a scene where Creed and his shoehorned love interest are about to have sex on a couch with Rocky in the other room and the girl says something about it being weird that Rocky was in the other room and Creed blurts out "He Old!" as justification to continue and then they just fuck. It's hilarious but what the hell were the writers thinking? Then near the end he's running down the street to train, a random kid on a dirt bike asks if he's Apollo Creed's son, he says yeah, the kid says cool, and then the kid just fucking wheelies down the street. What the hell is that supposed to mean? At the very end you get another random ass scene with these dirt bike kids doing wheelies down the street while he trains. This movie is just complete nonsense.
Rocky Balboa is back and he is the biggest legend of boxing, even when is not boxing.
Creed comes with Apollo Creed's son, Adonnis, who wants to fight, but never knew his father and wants Mr. Balboa to train him, that's the story. Very simple but there's more.
I had no expectations for this movie, and i'm still very surprised for what i've just seen, one of the most impressive things from this picture it's the magnificent direction by the young Ryan Coogler (who did an amazing job on Fruitvale Station), everything is edited very well, there are a few long takes which are impressive, even in fight scenes, it's hard not to punch the air during the fight scenes.
Michael B. Jordan redeemed himself (after the horrible Fantastic Four) and brings a very charismatic Adonnis Creed, the great Tessa Thompson is the new Adrian Pennino, and Sylvesyer Stallone brings his best performance ever, no doubt this is the second best movie of the Rocky franchise, very strong and very, very, very emotional. Ludwig Göransson's score it's one of the greatest points of this picture, bringing pieces of the classic Rocky theme, a lot of hip-hop beats, and orchestrated sound, makes it almost perfect.
Even though this film recycled elements from the first film, it's one of the best ones from the franchise and you must see it now, i mean, right now ! 9/10
This movie hits for me the way the original Rocky must’ve for its generation. The best boxing yet, Jordan’s charisma and earnest underdog energy, Thompson getting a meatier role than Shire tended to and owning it, and a heart that beats so hard makes this a flawless classic. This watch I was thinking about the context Rocky V and Balboa add to it, the contrast made between Adonis and Gunn, and how Rocky was in the same spot Adonis was. He was arguing for the chance to do what he loves, damn the risks and what everyone else thinks, because he has the right to. And so does Adonis. Stallone has never been more charming and heartfelt than here. I was cheering and fighting along in that last fight, and there’s no higher a compliment to be paid to a film like this.
For me, "Creed" is the only sequel to the Rocky series that really comes close to the quality of the first movie. That said, neither the final opponent is particularly noteworthy here, nor is the training montage outstanding. Everything else, however, outshines the other sequels. Michael B. Jordan is able to carry the film as the new protagonist effortlessly. His chemistry with his co-stars, most notably Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson, is also out of this world. Stallone is as good as he's ever been as Rocky, too. Meanwhile, the production values are top-notch. The sports movie formula is executed to perfection. The final fight, then, is perhaps the most strongly choreographed of the entire series. The baton has been successfully passed from Stallone to Jordan.
como hago para ver la película alguien me puede ayudar
Just because Creed is better than Rocky 3, it doesn't make it a great film. The best thing about this collection of cliches is that it made me want to watch Rocky again.
The best Rocky film since the first one, 'Creed' is a winner.
Along with Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian and Sicario, Creed is one of the best movies this year. I'm looking forward for the Blu-ray release to enjoy the behind scenes features.
This is my favorite Rocky movie. It is just so well made. This works as a reboot but has so many callbacks to the others. Ryan Coogler is one of the best directors working today. The cinematography is just incredible. That middle fight scene all done in one take is something special. The others are good too, much better than any of the previous movies, but can't live up to that one. Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson are both great but it is Sylvester Stallone who really steals the show. After playing this character for so long he is still able to bring so much more to Rocky. This is probably the performance of his career and I'm sad he didn't win the Oscar.
Modern remake where we see rocky take on the training role. No No No
Michael B Jordan! I could sit through a two hour movie of him tying his shoelaces <3
And I dare you to watch the scene where he's training and the music is pumping and then he goes running down the street with the bikes circling him without wanting to jump up and punch something. That song and sequence got me pumped! I've never seen any of the other Rocky movies, but I definitely enjoyed this flick.
Well, it was pretty good I must tell, despite of have some clichés and feel at times like a remake it was good. I think the direction was excellent, especially in the fight scenes, which I think were amazingly shot. The performances were good, the new Creed does a good job and Stallone was great, probably the best performance of his career.
Watched to see Michael B Jordan in something as I hadn’t remembered him in anything I previously had watched and was pleasantly surprised with his acting
The movie was generally generic but not in watchable
Rocky 7/10
Rocky II 10/10
Rocky III 10/10
Rocky IV 10/10
Rocky V 3/10
Rocky Balboa 6/10
Creed 5/10
It doesn’t come close to the first four films but still better than the fifth. A very disappointing addition to the franchise.
A good start to an eventual (so far) trilogy of a spin off and rejuvenation of the Rocky storyline as this follows the upstart of the bastard child of Apollo Creed seeking out Rocky to help him follow in his father's footsteps. The plot development and character development was a bit off, especially the part about Adonis wanting to make a name for himself but also accepting taking the Creed name to escalate his career. Yes, this is a different story, but the little connections throughout the film that give fans a flashback to the Rocky movies are a nice touch, as well as being able to see where Rocky's life currently is.
Take everything that makes the first six Rocky films great, and just add in better production and acting from the lead actor. Creed is awesome whether you have seen Rocky or not. To me, this barely edges out Rocky Balboa as the greatest film up to this point.
Rating: 4/5 - 8.5/10 - Would Recommend
That movie was surprisingly amazing, I lost it when Rocky fell to the ground. It is fascinating how we got so attached to Rocky throughout all those years :)
This movie has a lot of emotional parts, be ready to cry... Especially if you grew up watching Rocky's movies and know the back story.
I've commented before on this film... But I'm rewatching all Rocky anthology films in anticipation for Creed 3... And I'm going to say this now.
This is the best representation of Rocky since Rocky.
The character Rocky is the best representation since the very first Rocky film.
Just wonderful.
I don’t like sports movies. I hate boxing. I never connected with Rocky and I haven’t seen any of the sequels. But I’ll be damned if Creed didn’t manage to exceed expectations and be quite an entertaining movie. Four quick observations:
1) Michael B. Jordan is one of our finest young actors and I wish such great things for him.
2) Stallone won the Golden Globe last week and I scoffed. And while I still think that he can basically play this role in his sleep, I did find his performance a lot more affecting than I expected. Perhaps it’s due to a development in the movie that I didn’t see coming. Perhaps it’s the way the movie taps into the Rocky mythos in both obvious and subtle ways that lends an extra layer of pathos. I don’t know, but I bought into it and I wish him well this Oscar season.
3) Technically the movie hits all the standard sports movie beats. But I quite liked the filming of Creed’s first big fight, which appeared to be shot all in one take. Whether it was or not, it was a lovely pas de deux (trois?) between the fighters and the cameraman and whoever choreographed that deserves a cookie.
4) Some lovely scenes early with both Creed’s mother and his girlfriend that end up amounting to absolutely nothing. It might be asking too much for a movie like this, but it really is possible to give women characters more to do than cheer from the sideline.
This movie is very good. Action all the time, haven´t seen one boring scene. Captivating characters.
5/10 doesn’t live up to the Rocky 1-4 films. Best to just rewatch the originals.
yes good movie good :thumbsup_tone1:
Holy hell - does Ryan Coogler not direct the hell out of this film?!
If you're Gen X and you were raised on Rocky films, it's THE dream to be able to make one of your own. Coogler does that with aplomb.
Stallone went to the well and came up trumps with Rocky Balboa. The perfect end to his saga.
What happens here is special. It could have been excellent as a standalone film. The Rocky for a new generation with just one or two changes. But tying it to such an iconic anthology and bagging Stallone takes it to extreme heights.
Stallone is masterful - taking the Balboa incarnation and adding spades of humanity to him. Jordan is a miserable looking, soppy, almost unlikeable guy on first watch. On subsequent watches, you see he is merely playing the role - brilliantly.
As a born and raised Evertonian, to see my home shown on the big screen meant a lot. To see Goodison used is special too.
I have the same issue using Bellew as I did with Tarver in Balboa. Pick a boxer who looks good - find a physique! That minor criticism is my only criticism.
I had tears in my eyes several times in this quality film.
(let's not mention the sequel)
9/10
So I've just seen "Creed" and it was pretty good. I would go that far and say it's the best Rocky movie since the first.
Ryan Coogler directed the hell of this movie and let me just say it was beautifully executed. Coogler brings a fresh and brilliant story that really made "Creed" as special as it is.
Sylvester Stallone delivers one of the best performance in his career and I really hope he gets an Oscar nomination for this, because he's performance was stellar.
Same with Michael B. Jordan as he delivered a terrific and solid performance. I mean, after "Fant4stic" you would think his career has just gone down the drain, it's not until "Creed" saved him.
The camera work for the fight scenes was excellent, it was inspiring, it had passion, and overall it's a great movie.
For a sport movie was ok, the story was meh, im not a fan of rocky balboa, cause i dont watch any movie with him, but rocky(Sylvester Stallone) was playng very good on this movie.
A worthy addition to the Rocky series, Creed is a powerful character drama that explores the issue of legacy. The film follows the illegitimate son of former heavyweight boxing champion Apollo Creed, Adonis Johnson, as he attempts to follow in his father’s footsteps and seeks out retired champ Rocky Balboa to train him. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, and Tessa Thompson, the cast is pretty good and delivers some impressive performances. Additionally, the writing does a good job at honoring the Rocky series while also passing the torch. And as always, the fight sequences are incredibly exciting. Creed is a smart and well-crafted film that has an interesting story to tell.
I grew up with the Rocky movies. Rocky was the character that showed that hard work, dedication and family would get you what you needed most. While this movie is about the son of Rocky's greatest opponent and Michael B. Jordan is really good (see Fruitvale Station if you haven't yet, it's so good), the movie is an excellent closure to the Rocky story. Sylvester Stallone was truly born for this franchise. He is Rocky. Well, I mean he is but he IS. You understand ...
To put it up front: I am not a fan of boxing, it never really interested me. And thus I haven't even ever seen any of the Rocky movies. So you might think: "Why am I watching this? Can this review really be fair"?
Well, I can at least try? Give me a chance. The truth is: I really enjoyed this movie. I still cannot understand why everybody likes boxing so much - yet, this movie made it seem really interesting. The staging is really captivating, and the fight scenes look really authentic - it was a pain watching them bloodied up. It also had a lot of heart, and the actors where great. I like Tessa Thompson, I think she is a great actor - unfortunately she doesn't get much screen time and especially not much background - but hey: It's about Creed - and Michael B. Jordan is not only a good actor - he also makes you jealous as a man, because of his great physique. And Sylvester Stalone is also pretty decent.
All in all I was really entertained, would love to both, see the second movie in cinemas soon, as well as filling a gap in my cinematic education by watching the Rocky movie. What more can a movie like Creed hope to achieve? Keep in mind that I never ever was interested in boxing ;)
Worth your while!
Maybe the one I liked the most about the saga, Stallone does it well and I agree with the good opinions I read
It must be said despite their huge popularity and success I was never a big fan of the Rocky series of films and certainly felt that once they went past ‘Rocky beats the USSR’ the franchise had lost its purpose and reason for being on the silver-screen. Truthfully, I approached the film with no pre-conceived ideas one way or another.
The film is a relationship drama first and foremost but scatters in boxing matches to keep the diehard Rocky fans happy. The best scenes and most compelling side of the film for me was the quiet moments between characters and the main three played with great aplomb by Michael B Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson. There is no doubt that Jordan is an actor to be watched – one should be a ‘star’ in the coming years but at every turn he is kept up with beat-for-beat by Stallone, never better or more comfortable as the older, vulnerable but still tough and tenacious Rocky and the lovely Tessa Thompson playing a strong, woman who knows her place and worth in the world and will defend it against all comers. They are all fighters in their own way.
I was hoping upon hope that the boxing scenes would be more realistic but like most boxing films they seem to thing professionals go toe-to-toe slugging each other until one fall to the floor, this didn’t spoil my entertainment or enjoyment but to move this film up into the greats it would have been nice to show the final fight as a tough tiring war or attrition and whilst where on boxing cliché watch when is the main protagonist in these films going to be just a tough boxer who needs to win his fight and wants to win like the hero? Wouldn’t it be nice, just once, for both boxers to be decent and tough? I’m not a child I root for Adonis throughout the film to the extent that I don’t need to hate his opponents.
Overall though the film delivers what it needs to do an inspiring, against all the odds, journey for the underdog. Love on the way and plenty of training montages. What makes this film a success is the directing and the acting. Director, Ryan Coogler, whilst basically recycling the previous Rocky films, subtle drops in some proper adult relationship problems and gives Stallone’s’ icon character Rocky a closing of his journey, well almost, and I found it touching and fun to see him as an old man no longer living in the past, without double like fine wine, Stallone gets better with age and older world-weary and might I even suggest more realisitic characters definitely suit the Italian Stallion. As I’ve already said Johnson is an actor on top of his game and without him Stallone and Tessa Thompson even with Coogler’s direction you are not going to get such a good film.
I don't want to see another fight, This film to me finished off the franchise in a knockout, had the rocky feels, brought back some memories of the classics, learned some new things, and made me want to watch where it all started all over again. This was a great film, it kept me in ring, every round.. 7/10
Seen this a few times. Going to call it my second favorite Rocky film officially because it can't exist without the others but damn is this movie amazing. So great. Also amazing it came out in the same year as two other awesome #7s...Furious 7 and Force Awakens. Love it!
Apollo Creed was a legend so I was expecting a lot of action from the young Creed. A frequent watcher of boxing matches (and helluva lot of Rocky before), I notice that Adonis is played poorly here when he's in the ring. I'm not sure if it's part of the plan, but it seems that his moves are lousy and there was no trademark of Apollo's energy when he stepped in the ring-- which is understandable because the young creed is supposed to make his own legend and play it his own way.
Not only that Apollo Creed was a legendary fighter, he was also a showman. So seeing him wearing the same colored shorts Apollo wore during his fight with Rocky and not showing at least a bit of Apollo's air seemed to be quite bland to me. But this was a great movie, made me want to watch Rocky again. Also Sylvester has done a great job in this movie and the plot was great.
Even though am not a fan of boxing and rocky movies so much i enjoyed this one. It has a lot of cliches and you know how it is going to end.
5 instead of 4 only because I liked Tessa's music.
This is the latest attempt to pass the franchise to a new generation. It started with the reboot of Star Trek, and then the new Star Wars episodes. I guess it is Rocky's turn. And this movie makes it extremely obvious that this is what is going on, with plenty angst by the young man that maybe he is not up to the standards of the old generation. At least Rocky doesn't complain that his own son is not interested, and he must pass the torch on to the (illegitimate) son of his friend.
Plot-wise, this is a disguised repeat of Rocky I. The young and inexperienced boxer is up against the world champion in his division. And he ends with a loss, just as the original Rocky did, but with a greater respect from the public at large, and with the knowledge that the fight was very close, and that the referees might just as easily have gone his way.
I was not impressed with the movie, really. I didn't see the same hunger for wining in Creed that I saw in Rocky. And the story of a downtrodden man going from rags to riches by sheer will makes for a much better story than the one about the rich son of a talented man wanting to be recognized for his own talent and make his own way in the world, without being unfavorably compared to his father.
Also, I did not like the music at all. The music was a mix of the classically orchestral Rocky theme with new rhythmic hip-hop (or similar) intrusions which are often stereotypically associated with Black Americans. I am not a fan at all of hip-hop (and similar) music. Therefore, I found the new themes quite unpleasant, and very much clashing with the more aspirational Rocky theme throughout most of the movie. There was about a single scene where the two themes meshed together well, actually enhancing both: bringing actual melody to the hip-hop dessert of pure rhythm, while at the same time amplifying the Rocky-ish melody by more powerful rhythm. But otherwise the music was very much irritating to me, and a clear symbol of a passing down of the Rocky tradition to new management.
One bright spot that I saw in this transfer of the franchise is that the beneficiaries are unapologetically and quite consciously NOT white Americans: the music makes that clear. Those who will continue the franchise --- or will start a new one with Creed II --- are clearly meant to be minorities in cinema. This fits very well the current political and cultural milieu in which empowerment of minorities is a goal --- and which might have been rewarded with Oscars.
This was a awesome damn movie
This was an awesome movie!!!
Great action, Stallone was excellent and Michael Jordan can act as well as play basketball (who knew) just kidding, not the same MJ obviously...anyway, it has the real feel of boxing, from the training to the pre-fight prep and walk to the ring....nice cinematography and the arc was well done....not a bad bookend to the Rocky series and most like;y the beginning of a new franchise...
The relationship between Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) and Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) makes this movie. Otherwise by the end Creed felt too much like the first Rocky and even Rocky Balboa. Where the movie is more about proving yourself than winning a match.
Stallone was excellent and robbed of an Oscar since he didn't just phone it in even if he could play Rocky in his sleep. Michael B. Jordan while also good I don't see how he was snubbed just because he was a good. I don't think he is at that level yet.
Creed is a fine film but not the best boxing film of all time. Like Rotten Tomatoes has it ranked as. The film wouldn’t exist if Rocky didn’t.
Creed was a bit underestimated before release. Since Rocky training the son of Apollo Creed didn't sound too appealing. While I didn't think Michael B. Jordan fresh off the Fantastic Four dud wouldn't be able pull it off.
Creed however is a well made and well acted film. Everything feels familiar but the writing and performances make you care about the characters.
While Stallone deserves his nomination as Rocky eventhough he could play Rocky in his sleep. Although this a spoiler; he plays a sick Rocky incredibly well. He's also a Rocky for once who wants to just give up.
Rocky's son though I don't think was even mentioned once. You would think he would be there for his dad but I get why he wasn't. They wanted to focus on a father and son like relationship between Creed and Rocky.
That did work and I did care about their relationship. I wouldn't mind Rocky's son reintroduced in Creed 2 nevertheless so the film's coexist better.
I also think part 2 could use a little more fresh ideas than pretty much remaking Rocky 2. The only disappointing thing about Creed is mostly the ending. We have already seen that ending in Rocky and Rocky Balboa. So I was a little frustrated by that.
This is a hard one to rate. I enjoyed the film for the most part but dose not live up to the ratings I see others giving it. It was entertaining in some respects but for the most parts the plot follows Rocky 1 which most everyone has already seen and knows, The movie is very predictable right up until the credits. Acting was good from both Michael and Sylvester but just wasn't anything new or interesting as far as the story line. They basically redid Rocky 1 with a very forced urban vibe and black stereotypes. Almost turned it off when for no reason at all the black kids are riding dirt bikes and RTVs up and down the city streets and riding around creed as he is yelling in audible stuff up to Rocky. This did nothing for me and made me a little insulted that these cheesy antics are suppose to be moving moments. .
I truly expected less. Great movie, and would love to see a sequel.
Sad, it isn't called Rocky or Balboa :( This might also mean no more Rocky Balboa.
Loved the movie, the emotion and seeing Rocky again was the best part. Hope there will be more movies in sequel of Creed and Silvester Stallone as Balboa in it
Excellent movie! Great soundtrack, great acting. Welcome back, Rocky.
Well directed movie and good acting too. I enjoyed a lot.
one of my favorite movies for sure.!!
Well done Stallone , well done.
Made me wanna watch all the Rocky movies again!
Creed will go up there alongside the other great Boxing movies, Raging Bull (1980), Rocky (1976), Ali (2001) amongst others as well as in my personal opinion Crying Fist (2005). Fruitvale Station (2013) director Ryan Coogler has given a new generation of movie lovers the Rocky moment us old guys and movies fans had back in 1976 and every moment after when we share that moment again. Backed up with possibly the best, or at least contender for OST of the year and thats praise enough after the Straight Outta Compton's OST. Emotional send off to us Rocky Balboa fans and the birth of the Creed.. Let the legacy continue.
This movie is pretty darn amazing. Sly still got it.

Somehow, this movie seems to fit the criteria for both a remake and a sequel. Obviously, yes, this film follows the continuity of the franchise up to this point (even Rocky V for some reason). But while doing that, it also makes the story feel like a "What if Rocky took place in 2015" plot. I could see someone possibly finding that to be a fault, but I really loved it. Our main character is different enough to be interesting while tackling these difficult odds.
But don't let me forget the direction on this film. I loved almost every shot, every edit, and every musical cue. The fight scene in the middle of this film is all one continuous, uncut shot. Probably put together digitally, but still freaking awesome. If you enjoy the Rocky franchise, you'll enjoy this great epilogue.
