I have a friend who seems to be an expert with obscure Movie and TV fare, especially from the '80s and '90s. He recently recommended an old '80s anthology Horror movie that I had never heard of before. It's called "CreepTales" and was without question, an attempt to ride the coattails of Romero's and King's "Creepshow".
"CreepTales" was low-budget and low on scares, but it was kind of funny and pretty entertaining. Since this was an anthology, there was a wraparound story called "Halloween Night". It was a not very good or just mostly annoying story featuring two monsters that steal their dead Uncle's DVD, which just happens to contain the following stories:
"Warped" - A young niece visits some weird old women in a big old house
"Snatcher" - A purse snatcher should have heeded the warning of the old woman who owns the purse he's stolen
"The Closet" - It's a stormy night and a little boy is tormented by his closet door
"Groovy Ghoulie Garage" - Two young men attend a party in a small town while their car is being repaired, but the town has a surprise in store for them
"Howling Nightmare" - A posse hunts for a werewolf on a dark night in the woods
"Sucker" - An evil vacuum cleans up the house of an angry housewife
Setting the wraparound story aside, I'd say the best of these is "Sucker", "Warped", and "The Closet". "Sucker" was the most well-made and also the only tale that got a little gross. "Warped" played a lot like an entry from the old "Tales From the Darkside" TV show and the very brief "The Closet", ended with a surprise.
