Cruel Intentions 1999

Totally forgotten how good this movie is. One of my faves from the late 90s.

That ending is so good, with Bittersweet Symphony sounding at its best... but the previous scenes are so lame, with Sebastian dying on the street... Some of Ryan Phillips' scenes seemed fake to me, but in general I like the plot and the acting.

Three words: my guilty pleasure.
This movie is deeply flawed, still I can' help but love it.

5.5 / 10: it's fascinating how hard this tries to be an edgy early-2000s romp of controlledly offending the audience – like there was a conference room in which a dozen or so 30-50 years old filmmaking adults decided by committee how to best please horny teenagers.

I'm not sure I liked it... it was weirder and more tragic than I expected.
I guess I agree with the guy from the comment below. The first part was a little dark, but it had its charms. Then suddenly the movie changed into a love story (how did this happened?) with a unnecessary end... Sebastian was still an asshole, why should his sister take the blame alone?
Besides, I'm not sure I get the whole Cecile/Robert part... really confusing.

Sarah Michelle Gellar could absolutely ruin my life if she wanted to.

Below average movie. Luxury beliefs indeed.

Did not expect how BAD this movie was going to be. I'm honestly shocked. It's almost unbelievable how a bunch of professionals spent so much time and money on this and no one realized how ridiculous it was… Will keep a copy though because of Sarah Michelle Gellar LOL

"you just cannot decide who is more badass Sarah or Ryan "

It started so good.... and then it got so clichéed and bad :( They could have done it a way too show them as sociopaths (because I suspect they were), and made them slowly have to deal with the consequences. Anyway, I was fine with dealing with the romance part (oh no! i have feelings!) and predictable love story... But was the car crash thing necessary? It seemed sooo contrived. Besides, I feel like he never got enough punishment... Yes he changed but he was still an asshole in the first part of the movie, so pushing the fault over to the sister in the end seemed really cheap! So I really LOVED the first part (manipulation, adressing double standards re. sexism and a lil of the racism that a lot of rich white people have) and then it sorta ended pftttttttttttttt.... They should've played up that "thriller" part, it had potential!
