Dawson City: Frozen Time 2017

Like trying to take a photograph of 100 years with your phone's panoramic lens.

Dawson City... is an interesting documentary about countless reels of silent films found in an abandoned swimming pool in Northern Canada.

The problem with the movie is the magnitude of subjects it tries to include. It's a documentary about a cache of silent film clips, the Yukon gold rush (and the origin of the Trump fortune, as well as that of Sid Grauman of Grauman's Chinese theater fame), the history of film, the history of Dawson City Canada, the dangers of nitrate film stock, and the history of the world as seen through news reels.

Basically, the subject is as big as the great outdoors but is confined to 2-hours indoors.

It's not exciting - but it is definitely compelling viewing...and i left with renewed admiration for my ancestors of only 100 years ago...
