Catching up before it's leaving Shudder UKI. Dead Snow is a low budget Norwegian horror comedy about medical students vacation being cut short by an army of Nazi zombies. I actually had more fun with this than I expected. It delivers exactly what I want from a zombie film. Hilarious, creative and fabolously campy with over the top gore and incredibly epic kills. Clearly draws inspiration from The Evil Dead but it takes place on icy landscape instead and puts some of its unique spins into it. Thankfully, the comedy and the horror both work in this and the speedy pace makes it very enjoyable. It wasn't really deep into the characters development but enough to keep you interested. They all act so dumb but not in an irritating way. The practical and bloody effects are done incredibly well, the moment a head is being split into half is worth mentioning. Oh and also that death metal score! What else could you want?
The moment the dude made the communist symbol with his hammer and sickle on his way to kill the nazi zombie that's when I knew this movie would be a masterpiece. This was only confirmed by the dick biting moment and the fact literally not one person survives . Iconic i think. The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because of pride, I want this to be known.
If you like gore and absurdity, watch this. It's pretty damn funny.
Dead Snow had a slow start but when it kicks off, it goes BONKERS. Loads of blood, death, gore, snow and intestines. These Zombie Nazis are dangerous if you have their gold. And those uniforms? Still in great condition!
However, this film has also one of the weirdest sex scenes I have ever seen in a horror film. That was just strange! CAN'T A MAN TAKE A SHIT WITHOUT BEING DISTURBED?!!!???!?!?
So yeah, it's a fun film and certainly worth a watch! Zombies, snow and blood! Yeah, they should've gone to the beach like Roy said!
Homage to the likes of The Evil Dead. Starts off with a group of students going to a secluded cabin and yeah there's no phone signal or something like that. 0 for originality. It's that basic setup again. One character is obsessed with old splatter movies which could be a nod to the inspirations of this movie, or more likely the result of a writer who can't create interesting characters. A socially awkward character also attempts to form a relationship with woman. This movie feels like it was written by a teenager. Nazi zombies? Because that makes them more evil or funny?
This movie is aware from the start of what it is and so are you. So you can't really moan at what you see as it's expected. In the end it turns into an average splatter movie with some humour. Original ideas would have been welcomed in the movie. Just one. Scenes were obvious copies like in The Evil Dead 2 when Ash removes his hand and weilds a chainsaw. The guy in this removes a hand and some arm and weilds a chainsaw, but maybe in a different order.
Unless you really love these tacky horrors don't bother. How it's rated so high is shocking.
If you enjoyed Braindead or Bad Taste, chances are you are going to like Dead Snow (if you dont mind subtitles), it is standard splatter style horror, with zombies.... nazi zombies... why the fuck are you still reading this.. GO GO!
I laughed the most time. Brillant movie

An undead army of Nazi soldiers devour anyone in their path. Gross, funny, campy and fun. The kills are brutal and there's blood splatter and guts everywhere. It takes a while to pick up and feels cliché in the beginning but once you get to the second half it's one hell of a fun ride. Third act was WILD, epic and hilarious!
Lots of horror references too like The Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead, a character is wearing a Braindead shirt and we get a German Chainsaw Massacre in the third act.
