What. The. Eff. I am speechless.
Even at the very beginning of the movie, I felt like it was trying too hard. And it just feels like it could be better. There was no "wow" factor even for a kid. Bad acting, bad lip syncing. I don't know if I'll watch the sequels. I try to understand that it's a Disney Channel movie so it's obviously a low budget film.
It's funny but I didn't particularly like it much the first time around but my daughter loved it. And, I will admit that it has grown on me over time. She's watched it over and over and memorized the songs. She's bought the clothes, loves the style and has read the books and graphic novels. And in the end the world it builds kind of pulls you in and you get to see new characters. And in the end, you get over the cheesiness and even come to enjoy it
considering that I'm 20 years old watching this it's kinda fun
Whoa! Kristin Chenoweth played absolutely amazing. Well done! :)
Great originality. It's a Disney Channel movie so it makes it a little more childish. If this concept were done by Disney in a live action movie it would be a sensation! I also thought the casting was quite clever of the children.
Love these movies! They are so well done. Great music, costumes and scenery. Definitely cheesy and meant for kids, but lots of fun and not painful for adults to view.
I remember loving this when I watched it for the first time. As you can expect it's cringey and was a very try-hard movie but I enjoyed it and still think it's funny to watch for the nostalgia
Not nearly as good as the next two movies but still quite enjoyable tbh. I didn't like it that much at first (it was ok but not really good) and thought I wouldn't rewatch it but it turns out that it was actually worth a rewatch :)
I think the main issues with this movie are that the songs are not really good and the story can be quite silly/embarrassing at times. I e.g. didn't like any of the parents/villains at the island. Maleficent's character is one of the worst but maybe just because she has the most screen time and is responsible for the worst song ("Evil like me"). Maybe that's also the reason why I didn't really want to watch the movie "Maleficent" at first. Don't make that mistake, it's actually a really good movie.
Regarding the songs: My favorite ones are (in that order): "If only", the song at the end, and "Rotten to the core" (especially the very brief instrumental intro).
My favorite characters (roughly in that order): Mal, Evie, Dough, Ben, Carlos, and Jay.
Mal has the best outfit, that very cool green eye thingy with her mother, and cool magic!
There where also some nice character developments like Jay learning about teamwork, Carlos liking the dog, Mal falling in love, and Evie learning to use her skills.
"Let's grab that wand and blow this popsicle stand."
"The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before four hearts as one!"
PS: When I was watching this for the first time I wasn't able to find any Blu-Ray so I had to but it on DVD. I learned that the quality of a DVD is much worse than I remembered, especially if there is much movement. This time I was able to watch it in FullHD on Disney Plus (thanks Disney!) which was quite nice (there where still some minor artifacts in scenes with much movement and I wonder if they had to enhance the quality but it was much better than watching it on DVD).
It's worser than expected

While I did not enjoy the movie (the song and dance numbers were particularly terrible), I found myself fond of the characters... it's a nice concept, I agree, just not very well executed.
