Diabolique 1955

Les Diaboliques' final 10 minutes is 5-star material and has the creepiest use of a typewriter sound I've ever seen - the entire sequence was incredibly claustrophobic too, and it's what a film like this needed, a terrific ending. Everything beforehand was great and had a likeable backdrop of building dread, but is slightly lacking in anything substantial in my opinion.
Honestly, the genre tag of 'horror' had me excited, but unfortunately this isn't a horror film whatsoever. It's a mysterious and psychological thriller, a great one don't get me wrong but, apart from those final 10 minutes, it's nothing scary.
Loved how dialogue-heavy this was, something we don't normally get or focus on in a thriller, but the ending is what will truly shake your skull dry.

Finally watching it again after 10 years and oh, man, this is still one of the best horror movies I've ever seen in my life.
The tension just never lets up, Clouzot knows exactly how to leave us on the edge of our seat with the most simple and apparently insignificant details...
(And that ending, my friends... that ending...)
