Drop Dead Fred 1991

I feel the only reason this isn't listed as a horror is the score. If it had been more ominous and less quirky it'd be more appropriate. I was creeped out by these 30 year old guys haunting kids. I felt super bad for any young girls in the world of this movie. This is the only time I've ever wished a live action actor was replaced with a CGI character. That I would be okay with. This.....I kept praying she'd ditch him then he'd pop right back!! Horror film.

Still holds up. Some of the effects wear a little and some of the subjects are a little dour, but it's still tons of fun.

Unabashed fun that epitomizes the human need for escape from harsh reality, no matter what age.

A bizarre ‘90s cult comedy, Drop Dead Fred puts a creative, and rather dark, spin on imaginary friends. When Elizabeth’s husband leaves her and she’s forced to move back home with her mother, her imaginary friend from her childhood, Drop Dead Fred, returns to help her. Starring Phoebe Cates, Rik Mayall, Tim Matheson, and Carrie Fisher, the film has a pretty good cast; and Cates and Mayall make for a fun comedic duo. However, a lot of the antics that Fred pulls are mean spirited and destructive; sending sort of a mixed message about the value of imaginary friends. Yet while it’s a bit of a mess, Drop Dead Fred delivers some wicked laughs.
