Equilibrium 2002

Definitely a 7.5. I loved the stats thrown into their gun battles. I tried to ignore all of the incongruities and still enjoyed it!

One of Christian Bale's best, this action/sci-fi is a bad-ass film with great action fights and a decent storyline. Definately recommended.

ONe of the best action sequence movies of its time!

This is awesome. Highly recommended.

Mix together 1984, Frarenheit 451, matrix and some hints of Metropolis and give it to a bad writer. The result can't be worse than this film. For a sci-fi lover is a must NOT TO BE SEEN.

Equilibrium is a smart and well-crafted science fiction thriller. In a dystopian future where emotion is outlawed and suppressed by the State a cleric charged with rooting out dissidents begins to experience emotion and has a crisis of conscience. The story deals with interesting questions about what makes a person alive and the purpose of the law. Featuring Christian Bale, Emily Watson, and Taye Diggs, the casting is quite good and delivers strong performances. Additionally, the choreography for the fight sequences is outstanding, and adds a lot of excitement and energy to the film. Still, there are some formulaic and stereotypical parts that detract a bit. Yet while it has its flaws, Equilibrium is a powerful and thrilling science fiction adventure.

A conceptual Christian Bale sci-fi vehicle that can't quite commit to its one primary plot point. It's the future, and we're living in a totalitarian regime thanks to a government-mandated drug that saps humanity of its ability to feel. Bale plays the cold, emotionless head of the gestapo, responsible for tracking and exterminating the few remaining shreds of liberal thought in the wild. Curiously, after incinerating every shred of artwork, poetry and literature he can find, this super-cop then retires to his ornately decorated office where a big show is made of the beautiful architecture and lavish sculptural decorations.

The story's failure to comply with its own focal point doesn't end there, as Bale's coworkers and bosses are surprisingly animated and emotive for men supposedly removed from their own feelings. The plot offers no revelations, with the protagonist stomping through a shallow character arc and an overly simple, black-and-white evaluation of the grand scheme. There's fruit to be harvested here, but Equilibrium is either too short or too lazy to reach for it. A few very good action scenes (leading to an unusually high body count) are its only saving grace.

Equilibrium is a very entertaining Sci-fi thriller set in the near future within a cool dystopian world that is quite interesting with awesome action sequences with the new battle technique of "gun-kata" which is similar to some of the matrix techniques but entirely new and it works quite well as it looks FUCKING AWESOME and very entertaining to watch. Equilibrium reveals some answers about the meaning of life and shows us some ways to prevent all war and conflict leaves us questioning if it is worth it. This film also makes us appreciate the little things in our lives and how awesome everything is. Christian Bale was the perfect choice for the leading role, much like in "American Psycho" Bale plays a emotionless and senseless character which he does amazingly because of his main goal to become the character and perfect the role. Overall Great film with many unforgettable scenes.

It's been forever since I've seen this movie and it was great watching again. The final fight scenes definitely felt like a precursor to Kurt Wimmer's following movie, Ultraviolet.

The was the first time I had seen a movie with knowing absolutely noting about it. It was a great surprise and one of my favorite movies. This is what I would call a smart action movie. As an action movie it shouldn't be taken too seriously and the premise may be hard to swallow but underneath it is a story about the human spirit and some of the most spectacular action sequences you will ever see.

Lots of stars in this and more interesting than I expected. Plenty of twists and actually very well written. Honestly, I went in expecting a 6 or 7 at best, maybe less. But I love the compelling scripts that deal with the Orwellian societial concepts. Christian Bale is actually fantastic, not surprising, but again, the movie just surprises how good it was. The only thing really that missed was the ending, not completely, just the very last few seconds. But I think some would like it just the way it is and give it a 10, although that's really where it got the 9. That and the very beginning started off a little slow, missing something minor. Sci Fi fans will be thrilled.

Great action but poor writing. It’s like a cheap superhero movie.

I've seen the ideas in this movie done better. Even from the start it's cliché - we see Hitler and the Mona Lisa, because even someone with half a brain can understand the sentiment in those images. The plot unfolds like something dodgy of the sci-fi channel. Characters are uninteresting. The movie doesn't provoke deep thought because it doesn't connect on a human level. Something like Fahrenheit 451 got that right. It all seems dumbed down in this. You get the occasional semi poetic babble to try and add depth. A very bland looking film also.

:heart:x7
This movie surprised me. It's a little bit John Wick and a whole lot like what I imagine what the world would turn out to be if Trump became president again.

But enough of that  - Bale's action scenes are spectacular - that should be a good enough reason to watch.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

"Not without incident."

I always love fight scenes with calculated movements and this movie does that... with guns! A little corny from time to time but that is common at that time. There is a death involving a poetry book that is so hardcore.

The fight is awesome and the choreography is unique, to say the least. I really enjoyed the gun-kata fighting style for its flashiness. But I guess the good stuff stops at that. The plot is so-so, the foreshadowing is kinda obvious. A decent action flick but I think it's wrong to see it as a sci-fi movie with breath-taking story (like some critics seem to expect).

A action movie in the style of Matrix but not as good as it's role model: in a world where every emotion is forbidden, a law enforcer tries to overthrow the system.

“Was gona go to sleep, decided to give this a watch. Basically a revamp of Fahrenheit 451...also the second highest on-screen kill count to-date.”
