Fast Color 2019

Saw advanced screening at the Athena Film Festival, with Q&A afterwards with director Julia Hart and lead actress Lorraine Toussaint. Ms. Hart, a White woman, made the conscious decision to cast the 3 heroines as Black women, which gave very different nuanced performances and perspectives; although as Ms. Toussaint noted, this was not a "Black film"! The acting was powerful, and I appreciated the overarching theme around climate change. Just be forewarned that the pace of the film is slow, so definitely not your typical 'superhero' film. Stay patient and be rewarded with a great film! Recommended.

For a film with the word 'fast' in the title, it sure is slow moving at times. And despite the intriguing premise. it really isn't that interesting. A shame, because there is potential here - ironically, it needs a sharper injection of colour to bring the film to life.

The woman has superpowers, but her superpowers have no purpose at all except that she can see colors. The government wants to study her because they want to take advantage of her abilities as she herself and her mother don't use their power for anything good.
Don't waste your time watching it.

I really wanted to like this movie, because it has so many of the things that I like - special abilities! Minority representation (with main characters, too!!)! Postapocalyptic-adjacent themes! Unfortunately, it didn't have the excitement that I typically want in movies like this - it moved really slowly - and it seemed like the abilities, which were an essential part of the story, were never really explained or given a purpose of any kind. Like...we have this family of women who can disassemble any item into dust particles and then reassemble it, and they just sit around doing that over and over with random objects with no purpose at all other than to see some pretty colors when they're done? What. What? I don't get it. Anyway, I didn't hate it, but definitely thought of doing a big ol' DNF a few times throughout.

The ending fell short. Could have built it up more - i dont know. i don't regret watching it.

Great performances with a compelling concept, but ultimately a lackluster film.

It's a reasonably interesting film, the acting is pretty good, I just hate the camera work. It's mostly static shots, yet the image wobbles all over the place because the idiot behind the camera shoots it free-hand. Use a damn tripod or steady-cam! Damn amateurs!
