It's too easy to criticise this often culturally insensitive film, especially considering it was released at approximately the same period as the far superior Coco. Suffice to say, Ferdinand is a big bull, so there is a lot of bull in this movie.
Based in a book of 1936 and sadly we still have bull rides in Spain. Poor Ferdinand did not change reality. Nice movie, quite enjoyable with some funny moments for children.
Well...it's not a load of old bull, but it is fairly generic. Kids will enjoy the film, but I wanted something with a little more meat on its bones!
Admittedly, I wasn't really looking to watch this movie, just pass the time by; but it was actually a great film, definitely a must-watch if you have young ones who also enjoy good, kid-friendly laughs.
The animation was beautiful, but the story, miscast voice talents (even though I am usually a big fan of both David Tennant and the comedic genius of Kate McKinnon), broad comedy and misplaced cultural setting for its audience, all left me unimpressed. I give this film a 4 (poor) out of 10. [Animated Family? Comedy?]
Ferdinand is an animated film based on the children's book "The Story of Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson. The movie, directed by Carlos Saldanha and produced by the studio behind the Ice Age and Rio films, follows the story of a Spanish fighting bull named Ferdinand (voiced by John Cena) who dreams of a non-violent life. When he is mistaken for a fierce fighter and recaptured by his former trainer, he is determined to prove himself as the peaceful bull he knows himself to be. The film is visually pleasing, with a colorful animation style and a playful, light-hearted tone. It also touches on themes of conventional masculinity and animal cruelty, and is suitable for younger viewers. While it may not be highly original, Ferdinand is a fun and heartwarming film that should leave parents and children smiling.
Yes it was cliche, but at least we have a movie that brings awareness to iberian bull fighting. As a portuguese citizen, it's something I really would like to see changed but it's still controversial. It's torture used as entertainment but it's defended as part of the culture.
It's sad that it wasn't a strong hit here, I really felt that the carnation was on purpose.
I was incredibly disappointed by this film. I thought that it would be an effort to show children the cruelty of bullfighting, but instead, they attempted to tell a story of non-conformance to societal norms in a poorly chosen setting. In addition, the best relationship of the film between Nina and Ferdinand was scrap-heaped early on, so the inane and boring story of Ferdinand returning to his roots could be told. The voice actors were also poorly miscast, which didn't help matters. The only other thing I learned from this film is that Kate McKinnon is as annoying and unfunny in cartoon form as she is in live-action.
It could have been a great and educating movie against bullfighting for kids. Instead it's pretty silly and bland. Still, I hope it might play a part towards finally banning this cruel practice
While it does not meet the standards set by related films like Coco, Ferdinand is entertaining enough to watch with the family a few times.
Fofinha e com uma lição de amor aos animais.
Isn’t it kinda fucked up how most of the sympathetic characters get American or English accents and most of the antagonistic ones get Spanish ones
It's a charming story, carrying a pleasant message that will resonate well with kids. However there are movies that do it better.
A bull hand loving the bullfighter flowers to the bullfighter.
Don't ribeye me you brisket!!!
This movie is made with lots of clichés
everyone should watch this movie
