Overlong, inconsistent and definitely style over substance but I still really enjoy this entertaining dark comedy/romance. It's cute, unconventional, suspenseful, darkly funny, and I didn't expect it to be this campy. The genres mash together in unexpected ways, and performances really drive this one. I can't believe I'm saying this but the highlight of this film was Sebastian Stan. I would recommend going into this film knowing as little as possible.
Do yourself a favour and watch this movie as blind as you possibly can. A lot of the enjoyment of this movie is derived from not knowing what you're getting yourself in for and having the movie unfold the way the creators intended.
Like many modern horrors, Fresh wears its subtext on its sleeve. What begins as subtlety makes way for literal "bashing-over-the-head" message delivery and I can't help but feel the movie suffers for it after all the goodwill it builds in the front half. The core idea here is very original (dare I say, Fresh? heh) and the performances handed in by Stan and Edgar-Jones are sublime. While ultimately I really enjoyed my time with Fresh, a lot of the shine was lost due to contemporary story telling tropes and its overt messaging losing all subtlety following the "reveal". Definitely a good time for those that roll with what Fresh is putting down, but any looking for something extra to ponder on will probably be dumbfounded by how clear and lacking-complexity the underlying message here is. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it though, this is exactly the kind of oddball, original horrors that I love and wish were made more often; I just need that one extra layer that was missing here to push it to a higher score. I'll give it an 8/10 on here because I can't give it a 7.5. But it's definitely closer to an 8 than a 7. Also special shoutout to the soundtrack, it was just jam after jam. Will be on my Spotify for the coming week.
Spoiler filled ramblings of thoughts about the plot below!
I really enjoyed how the movie was framing the literal commodification of the female body. Past the usual sexualisation and profiteering from the female form via photos and videos, Fresh captures this in the form of these body parts being removed and sold to the highest bidder. Legs, breasts and ass are all the prominently removed parts from the women we were shown. Additionally, the objectification of women is disgustingly framed to great effect with them shown as literal meat being consumed by wealthy, powerful men. Fresh clearly has a lot to say about all this, and while the message begins well veiled and woven into the idea of the film, by the end we're literally clubbing a woman who stays silent in this system and having the dialogue refer to her as the problem. By that point, you've removed all metaphor and you're just blasting the message directly to the viewer. Please leave at least some room for interpretation, not everything has to be clearly telegraphed at all times!
this is the perfect romantic movie for a first date
the 33 minute setup to this movie was so misleading.
Perfect example why you should never watch movie trailers. Going in blind makes the movie
It's not the most nuanced of social commentaries, but the package is stylish and fun enough to be consistently engaging and entertaining.
this was definitely a fresh surprise! liked it a lot!
When Noa was on the operating table, and Steve said, I'm taking your ass! I just burst out laughing. :joy:
im sorry but if sebastian stan wanted to do this to me i would let him :pensive:
Slightly Entertaining with likable characters yet so predictable.
If Promising Young Woman was a horror movie. Just an amazing film. When Mollie decapitated Steve’s wife with a shovel screaming about how “BITCHES LIKE YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM” I felt it deep in my soul. Honestly only critique I can think of is that I wish it was longer, maybe talked more about who Sami was, the situation with Steve’s wife and how that amputation came about, it’s obvious he did it but was she ever in the other women’s position? Also what happened to the wife’s assistant (butler???). Really was rooting for Mollie’s ex to at least see them escaping but what happened does fit more with the narrative, the women save themselves and the man has the option to assist them but saves his own skin instead. Maybe not the most subtle of messages but where have subtle messages gotten us in the past? I love symbolism and satire as much as the next guy but ambiguous media has a long history of being misinterpreted by morons (ex: Fight Club, The Catcher in the Rye, The Matrix, probably any dudebro movie you can think of tbh). Somehow I didn’t see it coming when Noa literally bit his d:asterisk_symbol:ck off but as a fan of gore and feminist horror that was f:asterisk_symbol:cking delightful.
Well I’ve just lost my appetite but other than that with it’s good cast that all did well and sense of humour I enjoyed this sick film, never thought id watch something like that on a disney streaming application, different to your normal fairy tales..
Slightly undercooked black comedy horror but the performances make up for any narrative weaknesses.
Story. Actors. Pacing. Music. Characters. I loved everything about this movie. Gotta say though, I'm hungry for some pate now.
The 30-minute intro and Daisy's performance >>>>
This film gives Get Out (2017) a run for its money.
"Boxing Helena" with a hell of twist.
Going in blind to this certainly elevated the experience. The first 30 minutes or so are fantastic, and the chemistry between the leads is a joy to watch. However, from there, things begin to go downhill a little, and the plot becomes rather cliche and predictable the longer it goes on.
Sebastian Stan is definitely the stand-out here, and the tension he creates kept my eyes glued to the screen throughout.
Solid film.
what the hell what do you mean he took her ASS fgdfgdfg and also atm this movie is rated at 69%. nice
THIS FILM IS THE UGLEST I HAVE EVER SEEN..... ugly because it is gory.....ugly because it is vulgar...ugly because it is taken for granted.....not to be looked at at all.
It's pretty much Hannibal Lecter in 2022. Now, he also delivers in Uber Eats!
Deceptive, Harrowing, Satisfying
Fresh is a crafty and a gory thriller which stands out due to its approach of infusing modern dating, a bent mind and desperate measures taken. A unique combination of cannibal horror and a love story which you might not have imagined. Sebastian Stan in an unprincipled character shines with his sly performance and daunting presence. Daisy Edgar Jones as Noa is such natural artist. She throughout the film shows a significant shift of emotional ranges and she excels in all of them. A tighter screenplay and a crisper edit could have made it more effective than it already is but nevertheless Fresh serves as a satisfying horror/thriller film with striking performances.
If you are someone who enjoys cannibal horror or escape thrillers , you can add Fresh to your list of guilty pleasures watchlist and once you finish you wont be dissapointed.

This would be great if it advertised itself as the horror movie it is. Unfortunately, it pretends to be a movie about the challenges of a woman in the dating world. It's not. It's a woman in peril horror movie.
Watching a movie without knowing all the facts results in both wasted time and money.
So called spoilers don't spoil anything. They save people from movies such as this one.
this is my favourite movie of 2022 so far, no contest. the pacing, the cinematography, the cast.... it's all just a great rollercoaster vibe 10/10
Fresh is a daring film with a story that is both subtle and captivating. The acting is excellent, and the direction is competent. It incorporates all of the finest aspects of the genre added with some fresh concepts in a way that will delight any Horror-Thriller fan.
It's certainly not a film for the faint of heart, it strikes all the proper notes on its way to eliciting strong emotions from its audience—a surprisingly successful blend of thriller, horror, and comedy.
Rating: 6.8/10
A tale of prevailing friendship, dismal manhood and a great soundtrack. I was sickened by this, but the ending does not disasspoint. "Bitches like you are the problem" chefs kiss
Not what you expect. Stylish. Unpleasant. Intense. Funny. Great soundtrack. All these apply.
Did i enjoy it? I'm not sure that's relevant. Was it good and take me places i didn't necessarily expect? Damn right it did. It flirts with a thin line, that of becoming a full on gore movie but never crosses it, making it even stronger, i found.
In the end, i'd say i wanted to stop watching but also couldn't, as the film was great at just taking me on a ride and not letting me off.
A reluctant 9, given how unpleasant it was, i almost wish it wasn't so good.
I don't see how anyone could possibly like or even love this movie. 1st of all its a thriller without any thrills. 2nd, it's predictable. Slow slow slow, painfully slow. Nothing, I mean Nothing really happens until @ 92 minutes. Anyhow... Do yourself a favor and do not watch this movie.
'Every straight girl's fantasy'... until it turns into literally everyone's worst nightmare. This movie is an experience. I watched it because I heard good things about it, saw it go viral on TikTok and needed to know what the fuss was about. I knew before watching what I was getting into but I kind of wish I didn't because the build-up to the opening titles was fantastic. It could pass as a romcom or drama at that point and then it turns into this horrific tale that left me with a very very very bad taste in my mouth.
They went for a less horror and more thriller approach. Leaving much up for interpretation like when Noa gets her ass chopped off. We are not shown the cutting but from what we do see it is all but to clear what is going on. Same with the food. It's food on a plate but the knowledge of it being human flesh is enough to make me gag. Steve is charming, handsome, much like Joe Goldberg from the show You. He draws you in and I can fully understand why Noa would fall for him. He doesn't even lose the charm as he preps dinners or performs 'surgery' on his victims.
The music, the filming, the acting... all great! The story is good too. It's believable which makes it sickening.
Let's go for a round of applause for Noa's bestie. She got the job done. She went all in her friend and got her back safely. Kudo's to Noa too. I'm glad we saw her take action. Play the game. Play it soo good that halfway through I started to wonder if she was into it. Until of course she bit his dick...
I actually recommend this movie to my surprise.
"It's like nothing you've ever had before"
I decided to give Hulu movies another chance and chose this one randomly and wow I am glad I did because it is so different and refreshing. Fresh shows that Sebastian Stan has a lot of range and while there are some horrific moments in this, the soundtrack and his acting had me intrigued and even cracking up at times. Dating can suck, folks.
Disturbing and difficult to watch but with some cliche and in the end i felt like it wasn't something different. Not a waste of time though 6.8/10
What a waste of a decent concept. I would have enjoyed the film if it had any internal logic but . . . SPOILERS AHEAD.....
....
Seriously, don't look underneath this line if u don't want spoilers.
SHE WOULDNT BE ABLE TO WALK, DANCE OR RUN WITH NO ASS. Also you can SEE she still has an ass
Wtf. Why not just take another body part if you're too lazy to factor it into the plot? You can just ignore it because it's inconvenient.
I'd be interested to see the world expanded though, similar to hostel, there's more there to explore.
Sebastian Stan is eerily good at playing such a deranged and unhinged characters & Daisy Edgar-Jones was just as fantastic; you could feel the fear through the screen. Both equally as brilliant in their roles, very well cast. It's definitely not a movie for the faint of hearted, but so brilliantly put together and thought provoking. An unexpected mixture of Thiller/Horror/Comedy that actually worked really well.
'Fresh' is very good - strong performances and perfectly chosen music are the main reasons for that.
I wouldn't say it's perfect, just because I don't think it nails the split between humour and seriousness but apart from that it's a terrifically made film. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan give excellent showings, while the music throughout is top notch. It's nicely paced and has an interesting story. Definitely one I'd recommend.
8.5
what the actual fuck, gosh I loved it. a perfectly weird mix and Sebastian Stan is MADE for unhinged characters
I don't know what to say... that was just... fucking disgusting
A good and interesting story, but the development is very slow at times, sometimes tiresome.
The movie has the positive aspect of being sarcastic without being caricatured, as well as good performances and impactful scenes.
First 18 rated movie i watched
This kind of reminds me of a way more classier version of Antiviral. Either way, this is definitely a must see movie, and I thought it was very entertaining.
Dark, intense, creepy & a satisfying ending.
Good survival thriller with great characters.
Characters 8/10
Story 8/10
Pacing 7/10
Visuals 8/10
Rewatchability Factor 6/10
Enjoyment or Emotional Value 8/10
Average Score 7.5/10
Very good! Was pleasantly surprised.
Boring and lame.
33 minutes of prologue for a movie that has nothing special and it's just a "more of the same".
Can’t believe this started a Harry Potter fanfic!
Good acting. gripping but predictable.
I loved the 33 minute intro! How perfectly executed and totally misleading for the good of the audience. Perfectly crafted story, great soundtrack, ok not for easy stomachs some stuff but overall a highly entertaining black comedy movie.
How stupid was the barman!
Two questions though that didn't made sense:
The location pin that she sent was from their home , how did he find himself on the cottage home in the county ?
What was that thing with the phone at the end, didn't get it. anyone ?
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Fresh’:
Everybody needs a friend like Mollie.
I didn’t expect Sebastian Stan to play creepy so well. Solid performances all around.
I thought it was pretty tame for a film about cannibalism, but I was okay with it. Overall, it was definitely an entertaining (and fairly unpredictable) watch.
Bonus Thought: She totally ate Mollie’s boob.
A fresh take on new age romance? What the actual fuck
I thought The menu (2022) was twisted. This turned out twisted and disgusting. But one must mention, it had brilliant performances by the actors!
Like gourmet fast food, but not so fast that you can't catch it.
watched two times within 3 month's and don't even remember it.
Great performances, great music, engaging and fun to watch.
Fantastic performances. Grotesque premise. Definitely not watching it again. I give this film an uncomfortable 7 (good) out of 10. [Horror Thriller]
I was really really wanting to discover a "good" movie, and this had about 99% going for it. Then they ruined everything with that abrupt conclusion. So many loose ends, so many "wait, what?!!" questions, so much potential to have a near-perfect story and then they run out of gas at the finish line. Seriously, this had me thinking this was going to be one of the best I've watched in quite awhile; granted, it took quite awhile to get started - and you have to go into thinking "rom-com" (which, in all honesty, had kept me from watching it for awhile) - but they were building a decent foundation for the bulk of the movie. The acting was great (IMO) by all of the lead players, and the story...FANTASTIC. It really was a great film, and then it just sort of .... I don't know... it just, like...collapsed at the very end. For one thing, I was really hoping to see "Steve" (Sebastian Stan's character) get his comeuppance in a much more satisfactory manner, and the way they disposed of him was far too easy. The way "Mollie" put the finishing touches on "Ann" was much more rewarding. I was so (1) surprised and (2) thoroughly disappointed with the way this one wrapped up that the BEST score I can give this is a "6" (Good). It's a GREAT twist of blending "romantic comedy" and "horror" together (not often you see a mix like that) and I really felt like this was going to be a great film. But wow, they totally blew it with that conclusion. At this point, I would recommend NOT watching this because of how poorly the finish is executed. So many unanswered questions: What happened AFTER it was all over? Where did "Paul" disappear to? What happened to the "Man" that was out there in the woods with Ann? What happened to "Penny"? Honestly, I'm still alternately puzzling and seething over this. I just wasted TWO HOURS on what could have been a great movie only to have it puff away like a silent fart in a high wind. What an absolute waste.
disgusting but really a fresh survival film
Well wasn't that something. It looks to cause visceral reactions and does so quite well. Early on it even charms us into a cute little romantic comedy. We know what we're here for of course and the inevitable tonal shift is done quite well. Good acting all around. There were some elements that felt a bit contrived, but overall it was quite good for the genre. 6.9 for me.
"Fresh" is a horror movie that starts out as a cautionary tale about the dangers of modern dating and then turns into a light version of Silence of the Lambs.
I'll give the movie that, it's beginning is very clever. Especially when you have no idea what you are in for. It starts out almost like a classic rom com, with the set up, the meet cute and the way the characters act. Of course you know something doesn't quite add up, there is a certain uneasy feeling from the get go. The opening credits roll in about 30 minutes into the movie, signaling it's shift in tone. It works so well that unfortunately the rest of the film doesn't really live up to that.
It is an entertaining movie, surprisingly tame for the subject matter, but with decent build up and payoff and a soundtrack that made me giggle more than once.
It doesn't reinvent the genre or anything and is overall pretty predictable, but the cast is good with Sebastian Stan giving a beautifully unhinged performance and Daisy Edgar-Jones providing a female lead easily to root for.
I think I just wanted the movie to live up to the potential set ub with it's clever beginning. I expected a little bit more bite (terrible pun fully intended), a little bit more of the dark cheek-tongue humor it sometimes hit on a surface level, but oh very well, it is still entertaining enough in its own right.
A pretty good mix of romance and thriller/horror genres, but the plot is predictable.
This was a really enjoyable movie. I have two words for it: Lecter Light!
Lot to deal with in this one, me
Well done
bite that d*ck, girl!
What's appealing is the way it twists genres to mix and transform them. A romantic comedy that turns dark, a horror movie that has touches of irony, a feminist call that ends up being sordid in the representation of violence... This intention to take difficult paths saves it from the conventional, and turns it into a suggestive and thoughtful film around sexual roles.
This is like a kiddie version of Hostel movie series or the film Martyrs. It's nothing we haven't seen before.
Unhinged. Surprising. Grueling. I went into this not knowing what it was about. Which made it better. But it wasn't a thriller I would normally watch.
This movie struggled to surprise me. Even avoiding trailers, it was impossible not to be spoiled to the fundamental premise (cannibalism!). And unfortunately, that fundamental premise pretty much says it all. Collectively, the group I was watching with were able to predict almost every major plot point. This was partly because the movie has a very small scope. It's a simple story that doesn't have many tricks up its sleeve. Now, as critical as that all may sound, the movie is still well acted and well made. Predictable doesn't necessarily mean bad, but it certainly can hold something back from being great. Unfortunately, there were a couple other things dragging this one down as well. The movie's ending fell pretty flat for me. I don't know that I'll ever be able to overlook the eye rolling horror cliché of leaving the incapacitated villain alive, only to have to fight them again five minutes later.
As an aside, I was a big fan of Normal People (2020), and it's been exciting to see Daisy Edgar-Jones start popping up more and more. This week I saw her not only in this film, but also in Andrew Garfield's new miniseries, Under the Banner of Heaven. While I think she is excellent in both, I can't help but miss her accent from Normal People (although you can catch bits of a British accent slipping through here and there).
Fairly entertaining thriller with horror. It’s competently shot but plays it a bit too safe for my liking. The themes related to social media and dating apps are handled only superficially, but at least they managed to give a modern feel to what could have been classified as old-school territory.
Surprisingly entertaining, just wish the ending didn’t feel abrupt!
More feminists revenge porn that clubs the viewer over the head with its blatant messaging. No need for creative story telling or even exposition. Weeeee!
Nothing spectacular, but to me was bfun to watch.

starring Sebastian Stan as Armie Hammer
