Maybe I'm just crazy, but I really think this was the best 'Horror Classic' remake to be released in the 2000s.
Faithful and better than a lot of the originals. One bad review said it doesn’t make sense if it is called Friday the 13th when the original had the mom as the killer.
This film actually acknowledges the mom though, especially the extended cut. Where she is shown in the beginning. With young Jason coming back from the dead and finding the mom’s body.
The movie has some pretty funny deaths and some pretty brutal ones too.
This was actually pretty good. Probably one of the better horror remakes out there. I don't have much to complain about. It doesn’t try to be anything else but an entertaining film. Some of the dialogues are genuinely funny, Jason looks his creepiest here, and the kills are surprisingly creative and brutal.
some great one liners, but otherwise was as formulaic as a slasher film can get. i know that's kind of the point, but aaron yoo deserved to live way longer than some of those assholes.

I'm not gonna act like the original was a masterpiece or anything, because it's not. I always thought it was kinda boring and copied a lot from John Carpenter's "Halloween". However, re-creating scenes from the 1980 film in the remake was so sloppy and embarrassing.
It was so unneeded to show how Jason mangers to get around and catch up with people by him going through tunnels. Like who build the tunnels in the first place? I know the film is trying to go for a different direction and not do the same repetitive stuff, but even when it does new things, it sucked.
Marcus Nispel is the director of the film. He's also the same guy who ruined "Conan the Barbarian", "Frankenstein" and "Texas Chainsaw". Every terrible remake that came out in the early 200's was from this dipshit. One of the worst directors alive who's still making movies, and yet Guillermo del Toro is struggling to get his next project out. Don't ever direct a movie again, killing everything you touch.
Michael Bay had some involvement in this and it shows. Honestly feels like Bay directed it.
The only good thing to come from this movie was the line: "You've got that perfect nipple placement."

This is where I fail as a movie reviewer. I am too easy on the horror genre. The Platinum Dunes remake of Friday The 13th is a surprisingly faithful re-adaptation of the series. It satisfies my lust I crave from the stereotypical trashy horror flick: Blood, tits, drugs, sex, and gore. What makes the remake worth at least one viewing is it's sleek and stylish upgrade. This is definitely an improvement over the many sequels, much as the same route A Nightmare On Elm Street took, where the remake is better than most of the originals. Note aside, beyond it's guilty pleasure attraction, the depth of Crystal Lake is shallow. Many of the side characters have but any growth, their purpose is just to be killed in gruesome fashion (which is satisfying as hell), and the story is just another brain-dead person out to kill those who comes into his home. Must say though, for a downer guy as big as Jason, he sure knows how to set up some elaborate traps. You've heard this song before, only now, you get a kick-ass cover to it. If only the original song had some depth to it. Yeah, I said that about the original movie. Hope you guys have a most excellent Friday the 13th.
It's a bit impressive that the Friday series managed to go so long without a reboot; one of Hollywood's favorite tricks to jump-start a struggling series. Having endured more than its share of such hardships, the Vorhees saga no doubt deserves a fresh look, but this relaunch has no sparkle, no magic. It's just another generic, run-of-the-mill, nothing-special stalker picture with an iconic mask riding aboard the killer's forehead. Throwbacks to the original trilogy abound for careful-eyed viewers, but they serve no purpose beyond a brief flash of memory.
Jason himself has evolved a bit, taking on more of a predatory, turf-protecting role rather than that of a mindless, knife-flinging abattoir. His presence is more tenacious and precise, too - less of the lumbering meathead we experienced in previous encounters - but he maintains an odd knack for the comically theatrical, with a special love for body-tossing and delicate corpse arrangement. Of course, his teen victims are as dumb and irritating as ever, though the SFX gore of their eventual demise has been largely withdrawn or relegated to off-camera insinuations.
The setting looks great, and it's easily the best-composed Friday ever, but the effort is ultimately rather pointless and empty without adding something new to the mythos. Dull and overly long (even at a mere ninety minutes), this particular jump-start is a clear case of style over substance.
Terror is born anew in this frightening re-visioning of Friday the 13th. After a group of campers go missing at Crystal Lake the brother of one of the missing starts canvassing the area, where he meets a group of horny college students who are on vacation; but little do they know they are trespassing on the grounds of Jason Voorhees, a psychotic killer. The film’s pretty much a composite of the first four Friday the 13ths, and it stays fairly true to the series formula. Jared Padalecki and Danielle Panabaker give strong performances, but the rest of the cast is rather weak. However, this could just be a result of some bad writing, as most of the characters are uninteresting and the dialog is poor. Still, the violence is quite intense and horrific. While it has a few problems, Friday the 13th is a solid remake that gets back to the suspense and horror roots of the series.

The Friday the 13th reboot is not a film I will remember every bit of, but this has been my second viewing and it still entertained me. It's nothing special but it could've been much worse. We have both Sam Winchester and Caithlin aka Killer Frost in starring roles. Still watching Supernatural and the Flash. I knew Jared Padalecki was in this, but I forgot about Danielle Panabaker. We have boobies, drunk teenagers, Jason's mom, machete kills, Trent the asshole, Camp Crystal Lake, CHEWIE!, a jump scare at the end, a classic but horrible IN HELL!!!!! and loads of alcohol.
It is one of those perfect night shift films, or late night ones with a couple of beers. It's the Friday the 13th my friends will enjoy the most because it isn't that "old". They should really watch part 3 or 4 or even Jason X!
(PS. I know they do the My Bloody Valentine trailer as a soundbite in a season 7 episode of Supernatural which stars Dean aka Jensen Ackles, but did they also use this one?)
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I watched all the other Friday the 13ths last year and didn't bother with the remake because I thought it would be terrible, not like that stopped me from watching Jason Goes to Hell. Still this was fun with some good kills and teen sex.
Typical generic horror film, I mean I liked it, but can't stand all the crazy drug/sex/swearing scenes all the way through. Stick to the horror!

I didn't particularly care for this movie. The cinematography was nice, sure, but the story was very weak. Maybe that's a symptom of not having seen the original, but from my perspective, I did not get the experience I expected. The story was full of "this happened, and then this happened. Then this happened." I don't regret the time spent, as there were a lot of good moments.
Bad remake. The all too typical 1) "He's behind you!!!" 2) The horniest clean cut white dude always dies first 3) How would you know what scene will be next? Simple formula: Sex scene then killing scene then sex scene [...] Ending -- Surprise m.f. I'm still alive. >_>
The original movie is boring (but I'm a hardcore Halloween/Michael Meyers fan). The beginning of this movie when they first show Jason is what I always thought he should be - fast and brutal. The rest of the movie is just filler.
I will give the movie a solid 7 out of 10. It went out and did what it was supposed to, but if you are more into the suspenseful horror films, and not hack and slash with a few jump scares, then Friday the 13th 2009 is not for you.
It's not for every fan of the original but I think it's better than the originals. Since I was more of a Michael Myers fan in the 80's. Hell I barely even like the original Friday the 13th.
The Halloween remake blows; this remake is watchable at least. With some pretty brutal murders. While it also didn't make dumb changes, like make Jason a pedophile for instance. Which was done with Freddy in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
So I don't get the hate for this movie. It takes Jason seriously and the movie is pretty insane.

This was without a doubt the best of the Friday the 13th films, as far as violence and the kill scenes go. Overall, however, I can't give this one a very high rating simply because of the teen drama/stupidity stuff. I mean, it follows EVERY. SINGLE. FILM. in the franchise with the tired old trend of horny teenagers, a couple of drug-smoking dorks, and at least one alpha male dick strutting around. Due to lack of originality (come on, there was NOTHING original about the story itself) and the typical awful acting, dialogue, and sexual content, there's no way this deserves anything better than a "Fair" rating. It gets THAT based only on the violent kill shots and the fact that, in this reboot, the screenwriters gave Jason a bit more... personality?... He went from being just a mindless, stalking killer breathing heavy behind a hockey mask to an actual thinking, running, psychopath who was out to actually MAIM his victims. That was a nice twist on the tired old Jason. Apart from those two positive characteristics, however, there's nothing - absolutely NOTHING - to get excited about here. It's just the ages-old Friday the 13th with some makeup applied but still, ultimately, just another teen slasher film.
Thought it was kind of cool that at the 01:33:19 mark, I recognized an old tractor I'd photographed at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock, TX some years ago...and then, almost to prove I wasn't wrong, at 01:33:25, the lightning flash illuminated the antique old truck I had also photographed that same afternoon. I looked it up on IMDB to see if I was right and sure enough, those particular scenes were shot in Round Rock, TX...and that is definitely Old Settler's Park. Been there a time or two...
