i needed to see a comedy after this or i wouldn't be able to sleep right.
La película sólo se puede describir como obra maestra terror psicológico perfecto la ambientación y siempre te metes en el papel de las jóvenes 10/10
It's one of those movies that I'm torn to say if it's good or just okay. There were some twists that I thought was smart. But it sort of lacking of suspense for me. I want to be more afraid of the "villains" but I wasn't. Maybe it's a 6.5 for me.
Pure psychological horror of quality, without a doubt worth seeing this movie.
Disturbing little chiller is difficult to watch, but with an unusual and occasional brilliant approach, it's difficult to take your eyes away.
this was so surprisingly good. i loved it
This movie was surprisingly good. At some point it's really hard to follow but once you understand it's quite interesting, though they should have stopped just before the last 10-15 minutes.
Embarrassing. Imagine still being this transphobic.
Pretty good horror movie, that twist in the middle got me by surprise.
Definitly better than his last movie but also not nearly as memorable as Martyrs. It's generally well made and not necessairly boring but I would have taken another "twist" or something given the on the nose Lovecraft inclusion it was so damn obvious what was going on with adult Beth that I just was waiting for some reality altering event in there. I think he had great pay-off with the dynamic of the sisters so maybe extend from there next time instead of trying to go for so many "jumpscares".
It starts pretty well and does not lose a lot of time on introductions. The classic inherited old house, full of the classic creepy dolls, a traumatic event, then as an adult, she has to go back to the house. Hard to come with a more classic setup for a horror movie. It could have been good, but instead, they went for a total change in the middle with a big twist.
The twist being, not only not a very original one (she actually never escaped), but even a really boring one (so yeah, all you imagined would happen in the intro ? well you're gonna see it and it's the whole movie. Nothing special, nothing surnatural, nothing really.) It would definitely have turned out better without it.
I was expecting a lot more, specially with the whole Lovecraft hype the movie is doing. However, turns out most of the movie from there is just a series of jumpscares, not particularly good ones.
I really don't like Mylene Farmer, but she was actually pretty good there.
Also, like a lot of Z movies (which this one isn't supposed to be), you have to go with the basics that different/ugly people are not only inherently evil, but a real special kind of psycho that you can't apprehend because it's not even human.
So yeah, the doll fetish thing is sick (how lucky was that that they found this house so full of them ?), but unless you get your kicks by watching young girls get beaten up (which apparently is the director's thing), nothing much to see here.
A cross between a haunted house ride and a roller coaster, Ghostland combines traditional thrills and chills with some intense twists and turns that will leave you spent and satisfied when the ride is over.
The film keeps you alert and on the edge of your seat, and not just waiting for the scene of Taylor Hicksons' disfiguring accident. Ghostland contains some fictional suspense in addition to the real life drama which took place during the filming.
What's more, like a modern carnival ride, there is no down time in Ghostland. Every scene is an action scene without a minute wasted on exposition or romance, and what more can you ask for from a horror film?
Beginning had a strong, indie horror style and then the film seems to lose its way for a while with an OK payoff. But the journey feels longer than it needed to, which was a shame really. Premise was good, execution could've been better.
This movie didn't have to do all of this, I mean God, what is wrong with these people :massage_tone4:♂
this is French levels of messed up
There was no need for too much violence. They could have explained more about the psychos, why they do that, etc. This game of fantasy and reality is not something new. It's scary, but it could have been better, to exploit more the psychology of the characters.
i had this one on my list for a quite long time and just had the pleasure to watch it. its a really good movie, i was surprised. it has some classic horror movie elements mixed with a fresh take on the genre. definitely something to consider if you want to experience a brutal horror movie with a fresh twist.
A movie that definitely surprised me, worth a watch.
I can't believe what I saw. It is intense, very intense. But I feel it lacks of something... maybe it ends abruptly or I needed more of the reality. But it leaves you with a heart attack.
Terrible crap how someone might like this movie, a lifeless and boring movie. I just wished this boredom would end.
Great, loved it! The house is so creepy
Not exactly scary, but 'Ghostland' certainly does reach some dark levels to produce a creepy and uncomfortable horror film.
It starts off pretty cliché but it quickly finds its own footing. I enjoy the way the storyline is portrayed, it never gets predictable which is always a positive in this genre. Most of the scares are the cheap, cop-out type, which stops the film being frightening. However, it makes up for it by creating tense, uneasy scenarios for the characters.
Crystal Reed and Emilia Jones produce what's necessary in the lead role of Beth, those two do rather carry proceedings but the other members of the (small) cast aren't a hindrance in any way; the premise focuses on Beth, so you'd expect Reed and Jones to stand out most.
I was locked in for it all, despite the fact I would've liked improved scare elements as opposed to average jump scares. Still, definitely worth watching.
When I watch a horror movie I want at least some psychological twist and background. Nothing but screaming and slashing without any depth to see here. Every Scream movie has more suspense and a deeper story.
It's one of the best scary movie I've seen in a very long time. It was so creepy scare that I was tempted to turned it of but I bravely watched it to the end.
there were definitely moment's where I had to pause and actually digest what was going off, it was a little all over the place at times, but overall it was a decent horror flick, even though for me the 'twists' were a little lacking of imaginations and were quite obvious (again just my opinion) but I loved the atmosphere of the film, I am a big Lovecraft fan so always appreciate a nod to HP although I feel like it wasn't exactly explored in much detail although it was rather a Gothic setting overall. Acting was very decent not really heard much but about any of our main actors but they both gave solid performances.
Overall it was definitely a better horror of the year so far. In fact one I would probably watch again which is rare for me to say with horror's these days.
Are you kidding me? This was one of the worst "horror" movies i have seen in my life.Bad storytelling,so sooo cheep jumpscares all the time not good atmosphere at all, weird not in a good way and wayyyy to predictable.4.2/10 for acting skills that's the only good thing in this mess.
I was unbelievably disappointed by this. martyrs is one of my favorite movies, and the tall man, while flawed, was a perfect bait and switch and stayed interesting (the one before martyrs I wasn't into, but it was well done and seemed to hit what it was aiming at). this one starts in total cliche mode, but it's done so well and so viscerally that I was loving it. then he goes for another twist, and instead of going from one interesting story (I really liked the setup for where vera's story was taking things) to another, it goes back to cliche as meaningless mean-spirited torture porn. unlike the violence in martyrs, this had no thought behind it, just sad and painful for the hell of it. the lovecraft stuff went nowhere, and by the anticlimactic end the timeline is hopelessly muddled. plus, the villains were just offensive, transphobic and whatever was up with the other one (developmental disability?). that can be handled well, but this was just some 80s different=evil bigoted bullshit. tldr it's well-done cliche home invasion, then disturbing mystery, then lazy usual suspects jump into devil's rejects by someone with no idea what made that movie work and just ups the sadism. a total misfire in a career I was very excited to follow; hopefully whatever he does next gets him back on track.

This movie is one of the best horror movies of 2018 so far... Great acting, great cinematography, atmosphere... Few twists to keep things interesting, pretty sick story... I don't usually like those "dream" parts in movies, but here they play a big role for the story. In my opinnion there is one thing that was bad, and that is - we don't have any backstory for are two psycho bad guys! NOTHING! Why they do what they do? Why the dolls? Are they just sick, or? We need a origin story, or some kind of prequel! 8/10.
