Oscar Visual Effects Winners

The first award that can be categorized as Visual Effects was awarded to "Wings" in 1928 as "Best Engineering Effects". It wasn't until 1938 the category came into place. From 1938 to 1963 the award was given for both audio and visual effects and was called "Best Special Effects". In 1964 the award was given only for visual effects and in 1965 the name of the award was changed to "Best Special Visual Effects". In 1977 the award of the name was changed to what it is today as "Best Visual Effects".
