Simply beautiful...
What a man he was!
God bless your soul Doss.
I'm not sure how and why a movie, in which the main character's strongest believe is not to kill people, could celebrate the killing of people so much.
While this movie did have some clear "the terror of war" scenes, the finale did exactly what I've come to expect of Hollywood movies, glorified the "good guys" (soldiers), their weapons, and their belief in killing the enemy to defend their values.
I know that the movie is based on the accounts of the survivors, so I won't argue for inconsistencies. However, regarding if killing people is supposed to be right or wrong, the convictions and beliefs of the main character seem half-hearted to me. His past, as shown in the film, suggests his unwillingness to use a weapon is rooted more in a high sense of guilt over violent outburst against family members than his religious beliefs. Otherwise, I'd suggest he might have reacted more strongly to all the other people killing around him.
My father was a Corpsman (medic) like Doss and he has always yearned for a film to portray what they go through. What is most remarkable about this film is that they actually had to tame some of the heroics as they thought the truth would have been too unbelievable. My father said that if you were only ever going to see one war movie, this should be it.
Most of Second World War movies are inspired by the war in Europe, so you know the cruelty of the european side of war. With Hacksaw Ridge, prepare yourself for Okinawa.
I really love war movies, in fact I really love WW2 movies. I've watched a lot of them. And since Saving Private Ryan, none had made me feel like this movie. Powerful, inspiring... Really, really great!
this has by far been the most unrealistic and exaggerated war movie I've ever seen. Actually a disgrace to this guys legacy.
Also, bad CGI and wrong casting choices
An incredibly moving, exhilerating and engaging film, with amazing set-pieces, impeccable direction and staggering performances, perfectly portraying the gritty reality of war and the importance of staying true to oneself.
The plot progresses in an effective manner, giving the viewers time to relate to the character, which helps make the film and it's story much more impactful and engaging.
The gritty and violent action set pieces, which are discomforting at times, felt authentic and perfectly portrayed the brutality and ferocity of war.
The film also sheds light on the psychological affect of war on the ones that are involved, portraying a tragic reality of many homes.
Lastly, the film wouldn't have been as engaging and entertaining, had it not been for Andrew Garfield's incredible portrayal of the hero, Desmond Doss.
An inspirational true story. In this age of fictional superheroes, Desmond Doss beats them all; a credit to the men he served with, and a credit to God. Mel Gibson directs his finest film in an age, telling a story that glorifies the human spirit, and not the violence of war.
Overrated. Better to watch a documentary instead.

The movie is as good as the hype - this was an amazing story of courage and duty. I was also blown away but Mel Gibson's ability to direct a movie - I thought he did a fantastic job.
I often have a hard time watching the "based on a true story" movies because the whole time I am watching them I am wondering how much of it is actually true. From my limited reading of other people's research the guts of the story are true. In fact, his last scene in the war was even more fantastic than what was portrayed in the film (apparently Gibson thought that audiences wouldn't buy it). I also found it very interesting that he was in fact pro-war but anti-gun but that's a conversation for another place.
Finally, this was a fantastic film to see in 4k.

Truly sensational, I can't describe how brilliant the screenplay and writing was. May God give peace to your soul Doss. Amen!
Just got a new favourite war movie! Absolutely masterpiece!
I didn't manage to get further than 14 minutes into this movie. The first part with the young brothers and family was quite awful (bad acting, uninspired writing) and then I tried to endure Andrew Garfield and a nurse doing some meta-awkward (pretending to be awkward in a cute way, but doing it awkwardly) love at first sight romance thing, and I couldn't stand the outlook of two full hours of equally bad movie making. And if I didn't know before (I should have, after seeing the Spider-Man crapboot), I now know to avoid any movie starring Andrew Garfield.
As a veteran myself it’s not often that a war movie triggers my emotions, this one did. Amazing
absolutely brilliant film dont usually watch war films but this was amazing
The more I thought about this movie after I watched it the more I disliked it. Piss poor pacing, useless and uneven scenes, absolutely no characters developed besides the unrelatable main and his abusive father. Typically in war movies you feel some compassion or bond between some hero going against unsurmountable odds, but I just couldn't like the guy. As the movie lingers on it gets more and more unrealistic and that's when the wheels fell off for me.
Hacksaw Ridge lays out all of Gibson' strengths and weaknesses as a filmmaker - the depiction of war and violence is brutal and chaotic yet never confusing to an audience resulting in one of the strongest depictions of a battle since the opening to Saving Private Ryan ; the heavy handed symbolism threatens but doesn't quite derail certain moments ; the old fashioned script and style that are a throwback to an older era of film should sit uncomfortably next to the more modern depiction of war, yet it works largely due to the heartfelt performances from the cast, in particular that of Andrew Garfield. If the first half of the film is seemingly ripped from the handbook of war training cliches interspersed with a depiction of a ridiculously idyllic slice of Americana, it is held together by the convictions of the cast and the knowledge that it is based on a true story. Fortunately the film gives way to a harrowing second half that helps in many ways to justify his approach as a sharp contrast and to provide the context for a remarkable individual and the talking heads epilogue that closes the film is a reminder of the sacrifice of many and the bravery of his central hero.
Hacksaw Ridge is easily one of the best war movies we've gotten in recent years. Mel Gibson knows this genre as well as anyone and he delivers an emotional and incredible true story with great characters and amazing action. Andrew Garfield really anchors this film and gives the best performance of his career by a long shot. The same goes for Teresa Palmer. Then you get excellent supporting performances from Sam Worthington, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving and Luke Bracey. I think this movie is a Best Picture competitor if the Academy can put Gibson's past comments behind him and its going to be one of the most significant and most memorable movies of 2016.
A war movie that deserves to be in my top films. Now Mel Gibson knows how to make a good war movie since his other classic work "We Were Soliders.' I was truly Impressed with this master piece. A great picture. I've never enjoyed a war movie has much as I've enjoyed this one. A well made film indeed. A beautiful story. Very powerful. At times it will get you right in the feels and other times you feel like you're on the war ground with them. I love the true story behind it, a very inspiring story. If I had a hat, It would come off for him. A great performance from a super cast! God bless him!
This movie was incredible. I've never seen warfare portrayed in such an up-close and personal way, with so much attention to detail when it comes to brutality. The plot was perfect. The first act lacked any action but was still incredibly engaging thanks to how refreshing the main character was. Seeing him struggle to earn trust from his family and comrades because of his beliefs made for some good drama.
By the second act, we are taken straight into the battlefield and remain there until the very end without cutting in and out of the fight to focus on boring sub-plots. And the main character's unique emotional standpoint allowed for many impressive scenes of bravery and teamwork. Best war movie i've seen so far.
Yikes. Idk how I didn't notice this was directed by Gibson until after I wasted my time watching it - but big surprise, there's not a single person of color in the film, even when they were in that war. It's really insane. And dont tell me "there were Japanese people". Yes. Of course. There had to be - and I'm guessing he was at his limit for non-white characters ♂
The story is interesting enough. Maybe I'll check out the documentary or something - but tbh, just like another reviewer here, I think it was less about the religious thing and more about the thing that happened with his family. Just a guess. It seems way more plausible.
Mel Gibson knows what he's doing when it comes to war movies.
Also, Andrew Garfield is fuck!ng amazing.
★★★★★★★★
A biopic profiling Desmond Doss, a soldier in WWII who went into the front lines as a medic in Japan without a weapon, on religious grounds.
Hacksaw Ridge comprises of two excellently staged battle sequences showing the true horror of war. Comparisons to Saving Private Ryan are apt, at least in a technical sense.
The rest is all preachy Hollywood fluff and padding that inspires absolutely nothing in the audience. Garfield’s performance is solid but the script is so clunky and heavy-handed that he’s a wasted asset when he’s not saving lives. Gibson could have cut straight to the battle sequence; we’d have saved half an hour and lost nothing but meandering backstory.
I don’t want to end on a bum note because the tent-pole scenes that hold up the film definitely make it worth a watch, and there’s no denying that once the wheels get turning Hacksaw Ridge is absolutely gripping stuff.
PS: Being the flamethrower guy in a WWII film is the same as wearing the red shirt in Star Trek.

"In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons".
Hacksaw Ridge may seem like another Oscar bait "true story" biopic that we get every couple of years. The trailers didn't help at all, as it made the film look corny and very award bait. But guys trust on this, it's nothing like that. There's nothing glamorous about this. When it was over, I left was speechless. This is such a great movie.
Say what you want about Mel Gibson controversial past and behavior, but I think we must judge the art, not the artist. This guy is an excellent director and a great actor. And you have no idea how glad I am seeing Mel back, as he is the most talented man in Hollywood right now. The most impressive part of Mel's directing in this movie (besides the battle scenes), is he's decision of an old version approach to the film making. The movie literally looks and feels like it was made around the 50's. Also how Gibson would let actors deliver the emotion of what their feeling and it could meant a lot of things that isn't just terrified. It could be happy, regret, or just thinking of home. And I got all of that.
Andrew Garfield is an actor that's been non-stop blowing me away recently. And he gives one hell of performance as Desmond Doss. I would say it's one of his best since "The Social Network". Even in the battle scenes I thought he was brilliant, as he had this scared, tired, but brave look to him. He's accent in the film I thought worked pretty well and wasn't distracting like I thought it would. The chemistry between Garfield and Teresa Palmer was so charming and sweet that it didn't came of too corny.
Hugo Weaving plays Desmond father in the movie and he was outstanding. Such a powerful and emotional heavy performance. Weaving is the type of actor that deserves so much respect. I mean, we all know him as Agent Smith, V, Megatron, Elrond, and Red Skull. But for him to give a small supporting performance as the alcoholic father who's dealing with conflicted within was quite moving.
Vince Vaughn was so good in this movie that I wish he would come back for dramatic roles, as I really did brought his performance in this. The comedic one lines were pure gold and it was very "Full Metal Jacket". But he isn't like that the whole movie. When he's serious in the movie, it actually works and doesn't feel out of place for the rest of the tone.
Now the battle scenes in the movie...wow, it's pretty rough and disturbing. It's right up there with "Saving Private Ryan" for graphic and shocking depictions. What I always love in these type of War films is the loud sound, actors, and the camera work, which this movie nails at. I've heard some people say that the movie glorify's it's violence despite the theme of the movie being against violence. I honestly think these people have really missed the point here. All the battle scenes are depicted more as this horrible event than a flawless victory.
After the movie was over, everyone in the cinema started clapping. The last time that happened was when in saw "Up" back in 2009. While I never saw the point of clapping or booing at a movie, but for this occasion, I'll let it Slide. The ending was a very nice touch and pretty heartfelt to honor the soldiers that fought in the war. It was deserved.
I haven't got a lot of issues with the movie. But if had to pick, I would probably say that Sam Worthington Australia accent kept slipping in and out in a few scenes. And don't get me wrong, Worthington isn't bad in the movie, but he was pretty good. The same can go to some of cast (as most of them are Australia), but I can easily look past it as the actual performances were all great.
Overall rating: "Hacksaw Ridge" is not perfect, but it positives really do weigh out it's flaws. It's the best War movie I've seen in awhile in terms of it's execution and pay off.
This movie is simply amazing. Portraying the horror of war while honoring the sacrifice and courage of those who endured hell on earth so that others did not need to. Be prepared for an amazing emotional roller coaster.
I have mixed emotions about this film. On one hand it is a story told from an unusual perspective. It is a story about choosing life in the midst of the most brutal death. There is a pervasive message to the film, an unsung hero, a great romance. On the other hand, it is extremely violent, fitting the reality of battle. And although it highlighted the heroic nature of the principle character, I'm not sure it resolved the moral question. I walked away with unresolved question about it's principle ethical dilemma. (It did, however, force the viewer to think.). Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer, and Sam Worthington were excellent (all non-Americans playing Americans without a glitch). I give this movie a 7 (good) out of 10.
this movie is simply a masterpiece, in addition to already having a beautiful story for being based on real events, it is a beautiful adaptation of a real event, not making you feel bored or boring, the film is a great tribute to everything that happened there and to everyone who died in the war, and everything is even better with Andrew Garfield who always gives a show of acting, this film is beautiful, it is incredible, it is sad, it is wonderful, and the war scenes, it is simply one of the best I have seen in any other film, it makes you feel the pain of war, as it is bad, how it hurts, how it hurts for those who are fighting in the war, and even for people's families, this movie is just incredible. Rest in Piece, Desmond T. Doss
One of the best movies I have watched lately based on actual events (https://trakt.tv/users/manu101/lists/based-on-actual-events)
A truly powerful movie that makes you see the terror of war, it's supidity and the bravery of people. I'm speechless and emotionally agitated.
The fact that it's based on actual events makes it a whole lot more intense, now I see what all the hype is about. Great movie
Goes into my All time best movie Collection - One of the best war movie made in recent times. All credits to Mel Gibson for recreating the real effect & emotions through his script and Andrew Garfield for enacting the role of Desmond Doss so perfectly. I couldn't imagine a better fit than him to this role. The movie is so good that one will neglect the factual errors during the watch (provided you have read the history before watching the movie). Rest all is good.
This was a long one but it didn't need to be in my opinion. The first hour of the movie was character development but once those battle scenes begin man are they brutal and intense. The first hour felt like Rudy and the second felt like Saving Private Ryan. A lot of it felt unrealistic until you learn it's based on a true story. It's worth watching at least once for those battle sequences.
finaly i see one of the best movies like i uesd to see old days .. amazing story .. deserve 10 of 10 for sure .
The movie was exelent loved it the most realistic movie ever.
great great great!!! desmond knows humanity
An absolutely brilliant film, made even better as it's based on a true story
It really was a powerful watch. Garfield slayed it and all involved told a great story that deserves the big budget treatment. Emotional to say the least and I shed a few tears. I was surprised I liked Vaughn in his role as well.
Awesome movie. Even if only 10% is true, what hero Desmond Doss was.
I don't know how much accurate it was but this was a pretty good war drama, not perfect but good. I believe that it needed some tweaks here and there to make this a solid 8. Something was off during the first part. The battle was good. Garfield gave a career performance that can lead to an Oscar nomination.
Just fascinating that this story is based on the events. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, even though you basically know haw it ends. It is a story of the singularly heroic and selfless decisions of one person who saved many lives all by himself.
This is a movie about morality as it is about war.
It concerns a real war hero (Desmond Doss) who joined the army during WWII but refused to carry a weapon on conscientious grounds --- because he refused to kill. He explicitly joined the army to serve as a medic.
The first thing to note is the irrationality, even bordering on hypocrisy of his position. The Army's reason to exist is to kill. To kill the enemy, certainly, but to kill them nonetheless. And as far as Christianity is concerned --- on which commandment not to kill Desmond's objection rested ---, enemy soldiers are children of God as much as American soldiers. Thus, any really consistent Christian opposition to killing cannot say that on the one hand Desmond will not kill, but on the other hand he will help the Army to kill. That is pure hypocrisy.
In fact, this exact point is exemplified in the movie, where Desmond helps to set up a shot of a Japanese enemy sniper by distracting the sniper while his Sargent makes the kill shot. In that scene, was Desmond really not helping the Army to kill, even if he did not pull the trigger?
The Army, of course, could not care less why people serve it --- so long as they do. The Army is happy to instrumentalize faith if they can contribute to the killing effort. This explains the military chaplain core. And I suppose, most faiths are not entirely against killing per se --- so long as the killing is morally justified (using self-defense arguments during a just war, for instance). And therefore the majority of faiths are happy to supply chaplains to the Army, even if some of them restrict their clergy to not doing the killing directly themselves. Such is the distinction Desmond seems to want to apply to himself --- but this is a distinction without a difference. The man who murders sins just as much as the man who helps in the murdering. And for Desmond --- at least in the movie --- there is no difference between killing and murdering.
The one saving argument against Desmond's blatant hypocrisy is as follows: if Desmond saves soldiers who are then put back into action to continue killing the enemy, then he is helping the Army to kill and he is a hypocrite. But if the soldiers he saves are far too wounded to be put back into combat and are instead sent back home after being saved, then he will have truly saved a life without at the same time helping the Army to kill. And I suppose this was exactly the case for most of the men he saved during WWII in the Pacific front where the weapons of war made butchery meat of soldiers' bodies. This is how Desmond is vindicated: in that he truly saved lives. Or at least, in that he truly saved more lives than he helped the Army to extinguish.
It's better than a 6, but worse than an 8, so it's a 7. Too much glorifying war—too romanticized, too polished, too pretty, and way too 'USA.' The real heroes aren't the ones who fought or supported wars in the past. The true heroes are those who stayed out of conflict, lived in peace, and found no thrill in violence. Thinking about this, I admire the Ukrainian, Russian, and Jewish men who didn’t stick around but wisely got out before everything fell apart. That choice, I can appreciate. It would be interesting if European men were drafted in 2024—I wonder if more than 10% would actually show up.
Also, it was a little boring.
I don’t know for the “real”part of this story but the Christian Hollywood part of it is meh.
All honor to the true story and the protagonist. I didn't like the film at all, an American-style film that tries to bring together patriotism, war, peace and love.... The blood splash on the camera during the first battle I think was a slip of style. In my opinion it cannot be considered a masterpiece by an audience with a taste closer to the European one.
Incredible film with impressive performances, and Andrew Garfield really fit the role perfectly. Although I am not very religious, I have complete respect and understand T. Doss's point of view. There were moments in the film that left me quite distressed, and knowing that everything was based on a true story makes everything even more impactful. However, I didn't really like the beginning; I found the script and acting weak, especially in the scenes of the fight between brothers and the beginning of the relationship between Desmond and Dorothy. Other than that, the film was impeccable.
Awesome movie which shows another side to war. Great actions scenes and emotional performances all around.
A great film! The war scenes are very well produced, conveying the brutality and showing how war can change people permanently. This leads us to reflect and be sad about current events, such as the war in Ukraine, knowing that there are people who are suffering experiences similar to those portrayed in the film, in the current century.
A strangely wholesome film when you consider the nature of war and everything that comes with it. A great film with an inspiring message for anyone who can stomach the graphic aspects of war. In general, war is an assault on everyone's convictions and I appreciate the humanity of this story being told, first of all because what Private Doss did was amazing, but secondly because it revealed a truth within everyone, not just Desmond. Those men in the film and any that watch it, have to wrestle with their character and who they will become from the choices they make.
I believe this was an honest film that captured a story worth telling and did it in a sensible and respectful way. A must see movie for young men coming of age, especially father's with their sons (13+).
What a man - Ghandi 2.0.
If you ever need to show someone with an obsession for masculinity the power of compassion: this. This is what they need.
NUMBER 1 FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!
One of the most emotional movies i have ever seen. Made me cry a lot. However I feel that the ending was a bit too rushed. The movie could have greatly benefited from an extra 20 minutes at the end.
Hacksaw Ridge is an excellent movie based on the incredible true story of Desmond Doss and a tribute to his courage and determination in the face of adversity. The cinematography in Hacksaw Ridge is phenomenal, with Gibson's direction bringing a level of authenticity and emotional depth to the story that is truly remarkable. The battle scenes are intense and brutal, and the movie doesn't shy away from the tragedy of war. Overall, Hacksaw Ridge is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good war movie based on a true story.
THE BEST MOVIE THERE IS.
One of the best war movies. Awesome action scenes.
Hacksaw Ridge is a stirring and heart-wrenching biopic of a war hero cum medic who refused to wield a weapon. Mel Gibson's depiction of the film has an excellent production value, a profound and earnest performance by Andrew Garfield, and a true story that effectively illustrates the horror of the Battle of Okinawa. The uplifting narration and inspiring finale make it a compelling war film to watch.
War films all look the same, you see tragedy, gore, and heartbreaks of lost soldiers but a film like Hacksaw Ridge doesn't come too often. An inspiring biopic of an American Medic who saved 75 lives in WWII. The first half film focuses on the life of Desmond while the second half moves to the battlefield. Andrew Garfield's honest and superlative performance is the best thing about the film along with the blatant war set-pieces. A war film where you focus less on the action and more on a person who is rescuing and saving injured soldiers itself depicts the bravery of Desmond Doss. A Must Watch.

Could throw away first half of the movie except for unexpected fight between brothers, honestly did nothing for background characters even through it should have. It was going through motions, routine cliches with no emotional depth. Bonding didn't work, scenes of hatred didn't work. BUT!
All the stuff on the battlefield did, including acting, friendship, dialogue looking at you Vince Vaughn brutal almost body horror scenes one could argue one step away from turning into torture porn.
I guess it was unfair to expect new "Apocalypto", but it still a mixed bag of a movie even without high expectations.
Absolutely amazing film! The only two problems I have here is that a few scenes seemed like they would have been better placed as a cut scene in a Medal of Honour video game rather than a feature length film and my main disappointment is the corniness of the romance at the beginning. Apart from that this film was amazing.
A war film. With guns. And explosions. And stuff.
War is hell, but sometimes there will be angel even over there...
From Mel Gibson comes the World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge. Based on a true story the film follows conscientious objector Desmond Doss as he fights to be allowed to serve as an Army Medic and ends up playing a pivotal role in the Battle of Okinawa. Starring Andrew Garfield, Hugo Weaving, Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer, and Vince Vaughn, the film has an impressive cast that delivers some strong performances. And as usual, Gibson does an incredible job at showing the gritty reality of war. The writing is also especially good; exploring such themes as adhering to one’s religious convictions and the personal toll that violence takes. An extraordinarily compelling story about faith and heroism, Hacksaw Ridge is a powerful film.
Very well made. Sometimes horrific but that was the reality of it. I don't typically like movies about war but this was a great movie.
The fact that it's a true story makes it difficult to dispute the reality of the story. Reading a bit about medics in World War 2 shows that medics weren't required to carry weapons so it's curious that it came down to a Court Marshall proceeding for the other soldiers to leave him be and get on with the job. That said, it really is a remarkable story.
excellent, true story which ie very hard to believe. Great
A 10/10 rating is a huge understatement for this movie. This was a fantastic movie if not my most favorite movie of all time. At the moment. Anyone who didn't like it, let alone love it, is an idiot.
What Doss did is pretty incredible tbh. Nice movie
Wow warmed my heart. What a man. I think when he asked, the good lord gave him strength for 1 more man. Made me cry as well, several times.
Thank you DOSS.
Loved it! It did everything right, from the main character and the rest of the cast's developments to the war action. The story is great and the way it deals with its themes while developing its characters in the same time is very captivating as well. If you're a fan of war movies, you're bound to like it.
I'm so touched with this movie. Kindness will never end.
Amazing movie based on an incredible story. Moviemaking at its finest. We need more films like this one.
Para mi, la mejor película del 2016... Tremenda!!
one of the best i ever watched
Very good movie. Mel Gibson killed it directing and the whole cast killed it acting. A masterpiece.
Desmond Doss, a true hero.
First of all I want to get something out of my system. A lot of people are criticising war-movies, especially those about WWII, for not beeing realistic or directors for being overly brutal when filming battle scenes.
First, I am pretty sure none of us has been there, at the second WW that is, so what do we know and who are we to judge ? War was/is brutal and everyone who has knowledge about the war in the Pacific should know that those were the most brutal fights of the war.
Secondly, it´s a movie for heavens sake. Those kind of things are to be expected. Even the argument that you don´t see such brutally in documentarys doesn´t fly. Althought there were cameramen at the battlefields I doubt they always were in the middle of the action during the battles. So no one, except those who have really been there know how brutal it was. And the glorification of the "good old boys" is to expected just the same. Or does anyone think a Japanese war movie does this different? Everyone who can´t except this should better avoid these kind of movies.
Third, the war movies that were made in the late 40s to, say, the 60s aren´t known for their accuracy when it comes to depicting WWII. Yet some of them are considered classics of cinema. Granted, they weren´t as brutal as the movies today but I would attribute that to the times we live in. People want to see it, it could be as simple as that. Almost all of Hollywood Greats played parts in such movies. Lets wait half a century and see how a movie like Hacksaw ridge will be considered then.
So, now that that is said I am really surprised this movie only got two technical Oscars and mostly got overlooked by all for Best Actor, Director, Movie. I´m not saying the movie should have won everything, after all a nomination is a recognition. This is an intense movie with a gripping story that really got to me. I didn´t know about Doss before, at least I can´t remember, but his is a remarkable story. One you almost think can´t be real and could only be coming out of Hollywood.
So far it was the best movie I´ve seen this year and that is why I´m giving it a 10.
No, it´s not the best I´ve ever seen but one of the few that really moved me and left me emotionally exhausted and that is why I´m giving it a 10.
Everyone is entiteled to his own opionion, This is mine.
Absolutely amazing film made even better that it's a true story, 99% of people will love this movie
A Must watch absolutely brilliant, what a hero he is stunning and powerful.
Mel Gibson's biblic representation of the Pacific War
First half of the movie was awful I had a feeling that I was watching some love story movie and I almost stopped watching.
"With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it don't seem like such a bad thing to me to want to put a little bit of it back together".
It's amazing to think what Desmond Doss did. A great hero who kept his beliefs in doing good and not touching a gun in an environment of complete destruction and death.
Mel Gibson is back at directing after "Apocalypto" and does an amazing job. The man knows pretty well how to direct action scenes.
Among so many good performances, this is Andrew Garfield's movie. He was brilliant.
This film made me feel proud of the human race.
I gotta admit, I was not too interested in watching this. But I had to see what all the awards was about. The story line of Desmond Does (Andrew Garfield) not wanting to touch a gun & serve in WWII. I did not realize this was a true story. He wanted to be a medic, on the front lines. I was amazed at the whole movie. Mel Gibson is Suberb director! I definitely recommend this movie!
Mel Gibson Made a Truly Masterpiece.
Thank you for sharing this story with me... touched & inspired.
Second best movie of my life
Um dos melhores filmes que assisti nos últimos dias.
Fantastic. Another triumph of a war film. No surprise, coming from Gibson. Some of the most brutal sequences from the Warfield, but also pushing the uplifting message of sticking to your convictions.
QUE HINOOOOO VC QUER LA LA LAND?
Truly Amazing. Must Watch, Fantabulous.
Beautiful scenes, great story (which is a true story on the top of all)and a superbe new point of view on the war and the meaning of being in duty. Really worth it waiting the first hour for the characters to develop and for the movie to start the action, as it's split in two halves.
Hacksaw Ridge is a masterpiece.
Inspiring, brutal, beautiful - this movie has it all.
Mel Gibson is a fantastic director, and he proves it once again with this $42 million budget war epic.
Hope he'll do the Viking movie next.
Desmond Doss heroically saved 75 men without using a firearm...in the sequel, he will save 150 using only a rape whistle

Can't remember the last time a movie made me cry this much. Such a powerful movie, with great scenes, romance, laughter, tears through sadness and joy. I can't say I've seen a lot of war movies, but this one really opened my eyes, very well directed with great actors. I can't get over how strong this movie was, oh my god my face is still puffy and I feel so emotionally drained thinking about every person who has ever gone to war, either died fighting for what they thought was right or coming back and having to deal with losing so many friends and most having to live with PTSD. Wow, what a movie.
