This is a bland and cheap attempt to cash in on the "hip era" of horror movies made popular in the 90s by Scream.
"Michael Myers... yeah, right!"
People hate on Josh Hartnett, but after watching the last 3 Halloween movies that came out before this, this movie is a huge step up. Michael Myers drank some caffeine and seems more energetic in this movie. I like that Laurie had some strong moments in this, and got her heroine moment.
I was happy to see a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Then I was sad to see him dead in the first 10 minutes. Glad Jamie Lee Curtis was back and finally giving Michael some of his own Medicine. I'm looking forward to the 2018 Halloween when they bring back Laurie again.
'Halloween H20', (such a stupid title) is a decent attempt of giving life to a tired franchise and bringing some closure, which later got ruined by 'Resurrection'
However, this movie aged really poorly, in my opinion. A lot of cheesy and annoying fake scares that got repetitive really quick. How many times can people walk into each other or grab shoulders. Basically a 90's slasher movie.
Still, Jamie Lee Curtis is fire.
Jamie Lee Curtis returns for Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later in an attempt to save the franchise. Having faked her death and changed her name Laurie Strode has built a new life in California, but she still lives in fear of Michael Myers, knowing that one day he’ll return. Featuring an all-star cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Williams, Josh Hartnett, and LL Cool J, the performances are fairly good. However, the continuity changes from the previous films are hard to rectify, and the plot isn’t really that interesting. Still, the kill sequences are intense and well-shot. While it pulls the series back from the brink of insanity, Halloween H2O: 20 Year Later isn’t quite able to rekindle the spark that started it all.
It’s hard not to see the influence of Scream in this film (the sequel is even playing on the TV in the background to make it obvious), but this semi-reboot at least manages to improve vastly on the last one, not least by bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis to the franchise for the first time since the original sequel and she alone makes this much more watchable. Bringing Janet Leigh into the film may be one meta reference too far and a little gimmicky but the film doesn’t dwell on it and at least manages to create some tense moments and doesn’t outstay its welcome. A much-needed improvement.
Finally a decent Halloween movie. No slam on Jamie Lee Curtis, whom I've always enjoyed (even as far back as the original Halloween in 1978) but man, this franchise has suffered some atrocities being produced under their title and after Curse of Michael Myers I wasn't sure I could/would bring myself to watch any others. I went ahead and took a chance on this one, and I'm glad I did. While it was still your typical 1980's teen-stalker-slasher fodder, this at least had some decent acting in it and some gruesome kills. Also loved the way they ended this one (yes, yes, I know there's a Resurrection still out there) and (seemingly) tied off all the ends. For all the bad I've endured through watching this franchise (although the first two Halloween movies were really nothing to get excited about, the pain and suffering began with Season of the Witch which wasn't really a Halloween movie at all) this one almost atoned for it. Almost. There's still a lot of stupidity, plotholes, and teen idiocy you have to put up with but at least the confrontation between Laurie Strode and her deranged yet still unstoppable brother, Michael finally comes to a head and we have an ending...of sorts. I'm not sure who felt the need to write in LL Cool J as a gatekeeper/security guard or whatever; maybe a personal favor owed to him or something. His part added zilch to the movie and could've been skipped entirely. Overall, probably my favorite of the Halloween franchise, at least so far. I haven't started on the Rob Zombie reboots but will soon; hopefully those will be at least a tad more gruesome. And I still don't know how Michael Myers is so flippin' unstoppable. Where, how, and why did he become superhuman? Not a single movie has explained that thus far. Still waiting for an explanation...
6.5/10
Fair and entertaining
When Michael gets going.
Is it a good movie,
Well if you ask
Jamie Lee Curtis
She will say no
Because the studio tricked her into being in this one
Promising to go in a certain direction with the story, which she liked.
Then well after she committed to the shooting dates, the studio pulled
a 360 with the story
Which Jamie hated but by then it was to late.
(True Story).
Yes this one steps away from what came before
With the hole 'Scream' and
'I know what you did
Last Summer' teen theme stuff,
Personally I love those
Types of movies but
saying that I like
My Halloween as it is.
Michael doing Brutal kills
With teens set up
Just to get fed into
The meat grinder.
(Leave all the teen drama
Out of it).
Still a worthwhile watch
and it's certainly not the worst one.
Side note
I think the title of this movie
Is pretty cool,
Straight to the point
and explains the timeline
of where this installment sits.
A loose and somewhat slipshod attempt to make a neo-slasher à la Scream. It's not good, but after the absolute clownshow that was Halloween 6 it feels like a breath of fresh air.
Let this movie be a lesson to us all that no matter how bad we can screw up, we can rise to mediocrity by pretending our mistakes never happened and hanging out with Josh Hartnett.
Isn't Halloween H20: 20 years later a really stupid title?
But it serves an important purpose and that is to separate this movie from the last few in the franchise.
Halloween H20 is in large parts a soft reboot, ignoring the events of everything after Halloween 2, and bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis for a more streamlined and back-to-basics Halloween movie. For the most part, this works very well. The change in setting to the school is very interesting (even if 99% of the students left to go on a school vacation, seriously when would that ever happen??). Curtis is the best aspect here by far. Laurie Strode is a more complex character this time around, clearly suffering from PTSD from her prior encounters with Michael, and this is pushed onto her son against his will. I also enjoyed her interactions with Michael in this movie, which adds a much needed dynamic to his character which has been missing for some time now.
The plot follows a largely predictable course however, and the film has not aged particularly well, with some cheesy 90s horror tropes that are probably best kept in the 90s. I also groaned slightly when I saw LL Cool J in the cast list, but his appearance is brief and not all that bad.
Its derivative, but a damn sight better than the last few films in the franchise. 6/10.
This is the only one of the series I watched (chicken me). However, I did like it.
Typical slasher movie from the 90'ties.
In the past six film i think "Why they aren't cut his head?" Well. Finally Laurie's do it! Thanks God. But how Micheal returns? I hope to see it in next one with a really good explanation.
No. Stop it please... It's just boring and unnecessary..
For my 31Days Of Horror. Easily my favorite after the first two, ignoring the other sequels entirely.

If Halloween was made as if it was a Scream movie. With even the same musical score. This Michael is the least intimidating as well.
Though I always found the movie entertaining. With Jamie Lee Curtis in good form.
