not too bad, book is still much better
Harry and friends return for a second term, where they're quickly caught up in a long-standing plot to rid the school of so-called "impure" students. Between the celebrated, absurdly deep cast, the charming, nuanced world at large and the constant manipulations of a shadow-clad foil, this picture had an awful lot going for it right out of the gates... so why does it feel like we're just treading water? A large swath of The Chamber of Secrets seems inessential and redundant, which isn't to say it's without merit, just that it could be using this time to fry much larger fish. Did we need to reinforce the idea that Harry's adoptive parents are cruel people? Didn't our hero avoid an attempt on his life on the Quidditch pitch last time around? For that matter, wasn't the entire endgame eerily similar in the preceding installment? Too much time smelling the roses when there's a fire down the block.
Of course, it's not all bad news. The CGI, though still not without the occasional hiccup, has vastly improved since the last picture. That doesn't excuse the force-fed inclusion of an all-digital supporting character, but at least these appearances are kept mercifully short and to-the-point. Although it's the longest installment in the Harry Potter franchise, this chapter skims along at a strict pace and feels much shorter than it actually is. Though seemingly inconsequential as a whole, the plot does drop frequent hints at a darker side of the Hogwarts mythos before, ultimately, allowing such things to continue lurking in obscurity. It shows promise in spades, and will certainly capture the hearts and minds of the younger audiences it's primarily there for, but more demanding viewers will likely find it too thin and sugary for serious digestion.
The pacing isn't particularly good, Ron is a total idiot, the special effects show their age, and some of the acting is atrocious - but then it's all worth it for Lucius Malfoy, Gilderoy Lockhart and Draco's "I didn't know you could read." impressed face. Also, there's a lot of movie-overdramatisation going on in this, such as in the car trip to Hogwarts, but I think the best (or worst?) example of this is Lucius Malfoy whipping out his wand and straight up starting to say the Death Curse right in the middle of Hogwarts, 10 meters away from Dumbledore's office. And here I thought he was basically a coward - that's the ballsiest move I've ever seen.
61 | The second film of the Harry Potter franchise had more horror elements than the first one. We learned about a bit history of Hogwarts and the mysteries around it. This film was cleverer than The Philosopher Stone, even though it still had bad details it was not ruined the whole film. One of the good parts of this film was we knew more about Wesley's family, how many, and how famous they are among some wizards. There were also some new teachers, there was a useless one and a useful one. Gilderoy Lockhart did not give much of a development for the story, instead, Lucius was a more interesting character than him. From Lucius, we got a bit of understanding about the main villain in the Wizarding World. In short, this film was an improvement for the Harry Potter franchise, hope it would get better for the couple's next films.

Much more exciting than the first!
A great movie, but rewatching I can't help but think about how ridiculous it is for these kids to all still be at this school when such dangerous things keep happening. Still, it's a lot of fun. Not sure if it's better than Philosopher's Stone though.
So we just gonna act like Draco's dad didn't just try to use the killing curse on a 11 year old just for giving his annoying servant a sock
Although longer, the plot flies by at a faster pace. Darker than the 1st one and a lot better.
Significantly worse than the first, but still good in it's own right
it's really a great movie
Now, I absolutely adore the Harry Potter series, Chamber of Secrets, in terms of CCI is a vast improvement upon the first installment in this series. I feel that the kids' has all begun to mature. However the only downside to this movie, I feel, is that it is slightly too long. It is a great watch though.
An excellent whodunnit Fantasy/Mystery. I think the Potter films and books were better when they had mystery plots. Which is basically 1-4.
Nearly 40 minutes into this sequel before elements of the main plot kick in, it’s apparent that little has been learned from the previous entry. The central trio of actors all seem to be much more comfortable in their roles, especially Radcliffe, and Kenneth Branagh is entertaining in the additional adult role. But yet again it is way too long, and so much of the material this time feels repetitive as well as inconsequential to the story the film is trying to tell. The filmmakers constantly feel the need to both show and explain every plot detail, not trusting in the audience, and it all become quite dull at times. That said, the central protagonists are much more proactive here and the film does touch on some interesting themes regarding identity and discrimination thst are left open for further exploration.
Not the best Harry Potter movie but very enjoyable still!
As good as the first one. We learn more about our main villain and his similarity to Harry and we also learn to love Dobby and his shenanigans. This movie is a little bit darker which is already a sign of the path the other movies will take in the future.
Mista Pottuh..you want Dobbie dance on pole for you again?
I love the Harry Potter series, I think this film is definitely interesting and gives you more back story to the characters in the first instalment. Plus I love Dobby!
Saw this in Theaters (note for me)
Ron: "Why spiders? Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies?"
My second favorite of the franchise and the most fun out of all of them. Some of my favorite moments are in this one; Dobby, the flying car, the Quidditch tournament, the spiders and the Basilisk. The tone is a bit different from the first, less childish and there's a "something creeping in the night" feeling to it (Prisoner of Azkaban ups that even more). The whole mystery and the Heir of Slytherin storyline is an improvement from the first. The world building and setting up for future events is pretty good. Great score once again, the child acting is getting a little better and the set pieces are phenomenal. Thrilling third act and perfect ending.
Magical Creatures Ranked (by favorite):
definite improvement over the first film, just an overall much more enjoyable experience. it’s still suffers from the condensing of the books making character decisions seem much stupider than they would be otherwise. Plus it seems like there was some rehashing of plot points from the first one. But overall, a decent movie.
★★★★☆☆☆
In general I prefer the first film but I like a little bit more the final of this one. Too enjoyable anyways. Great characters Dobby and Fawkes! :)
No one can change my mind when it comes to the best characters in the Harry Potter franchise: 1. Fang (Hagrid's dog), 2. Hagrid, 3. Fred and George.
R.I.P Robbie Coltrane, that ending scene really felt like an homage to an awesome person
Terrible acting by most (although they are kids, after all).
On the other hand, this is the part of the Potter story where things get interesting - the first appearance of a horcrux, a peek into Voldemort’s past etc.
More of what makes the Harry Potter series great, and also introduces some darker themes compared to the first installment. I didn't enjoy the couple instances of overdramatization or the feeling that certain aspects of the story were rushed to fit into an already long runtime, but these are minor complaints. Any Harry Potter fan will enjoy the abundance of faithful reproductions of content from the books, and any first-time viewer will be captivated by the mysterious story and great interplay between the characters. I liked it about as much as the first film.
& i understand the car was enchanted but did it have a mind of its own . Like what was the car doing the whole time lol
The Story was cool. I was hoping that the spider would fight the snake at some point so i was a little disappointed about that. The whole chamber of secrets was what though? Where the memory of Voldemort lived with a big snake? But his memory was in the book that came from Lucious Malfoy. So what was the snake eating all that time to grow that big? Can’t be just rats right cuz that kind of doesn’t add up but i digress. Maybe it explained it better in the book ( which i didn’t read) . I’m looking forward to the next movie though!
I’ve always thought of this as the worst in the series, that still might true, but on rewatch I was surprised at how much of the lore is set in this one. It’s mostly the length that kills it as the mystery starts to become a slog but everything else is good
IMO this second movie is a bit too dark and boring at times. Other than that it's really good :)
Lots of nice quotes/lines, I absolutely love the flying car, we got two short but nice duels, and the phoenix is fascinating.
There are also some nice insights into Hogwarts, its history, the wizarding world. Plus we met Dobby, Tom and Gilderoy.
Chris Columbus delivers another magical adventure with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The story takes a darker tone as the mysterious Chamber of Secrets is opened at Hogwarts, causing a rash of attacks on the students. The cast once again delivers fairly good performances, and are assisted by the additions of Kenneth Branagh and Jason Isaacs. The special effects have improved substantially, and help to create some incredible action sequences. Additionally, the script is a lot tighter and more focused, which helps to create mystery and suspense. Incredibly entertaining, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a thrilling fantasy film.

This one felt like more of the same and overlong for such a plot. Compared to the first one, it has a vaguely more action-oriented approach, with smashy-crashy scenes that now feel a little awkward. The story asked for more ambitious CGI, but the result is not too convincing unfortunately. The cute gadgets and set design are still worth a watch though.
It's been 3 weeks since I watched that movie and except for the flying car and Gilderoy Lockhard I don't really remember that much of it. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to watch them all so shortly after each other.
A little darker than the first but still very kid friendly. I remember the chamber of secrets part being much more scary as a kid. Still it is pretty intense for a kids movie. Kenneth Branagh is great and dobby is annoying.
My favorite Harry Potter film in the series....this movie made me fall in love with the Harry Potter series
A bit better this time around:

Always a good watch, my favorite of the lot.. it's just got so much more magic, and comedy entertainment than the others.. the main cast at they best... director Chris Columbus should of made them all... and Richard Harris should of never died... super!
Lots of stuff got scraped from the book... Plus the acting didnt improve much either...
wow amazing but how can i play this
I feel like the first two movies are severely underrated given the profound quotes&lessons they build up too! ❤
Same pitch as the first, just like me, new characters. View Castilian by my parents, shame, that British English sounds great. It is more darker
Is it weird that I know most of the dialogue by heart?
rewatch | Scene in the Chamber, Fawkes, freeing Dobby!

I didn't remember that this second film was more exciting than the firts one. It is longer and darker but I think it's better. I really enjoyed it.
