Except for the nice view (Carano) this flick has little to offer. I guess if you catch it when it turns up on TV...and there is nothing else on any of the other cillion channels, it might be worth your time.
Very uninspiring, if not outright terribly bad, cameraworks. It's cool that the action scenes don't use shaky cam, but almost every other scenes are unnecessarily long (like the one where she walks on hotel corridor and the one on road). Chases have no sense of thrill/urgency at all with only one camera shooting her run for a very long time. The accompanying music is also very flat, doesn't leave any impression on the scenes.
The writing is simple in its premise but convoluted in execution. Dialogues are cheesy and Gina Carano isn't really the greatest actor. The spotlight of this movie is Gina Carano's impactful fight scenes (of course since she is an MMA artist). However the bad cameraworks and music directing from start to finish fails to capture her dynamics and wastes Gina's talent. Like one critic says, it feels like Gina is trapped in the film.
If you come across someone recommending the film as a good action movie, don't hear them like I did. They're just hipsters.
Well, I enjoyed this movie...
I have this film as one of my guilty pleasures. It's a really solid B-movie - but that is its failing.
The positive:- Gina Carano is incredibly alluring. The camera loves her. Scenes where she's just being focused on with no action keep you riveted. A very beautiful woman. And she's exceptional in the fight scenes, much as you'd expect from an MMA fighter.
The flaws:- Soderbergh - an excellent director in usual circumstances. This feels like he gave control to someone else and then just signed it off.- The ADR. It doesn't mesh as the right tone throughout the film. I'd like to see a cut with Gina's voice and see why they felt the need to replace it.- the chase scenes are a little overlong with little suspense.
This is far from a perfect film. It has a very solid cast. Carano was learning on the job and she has good points and bad points. But it could have been much better. I have however seen it 3 times that I can recall and I do enjoy it.
Love Channing Tatum in this movie! Very good movie to me!! #haywire
This is far from Soderbergh’s best work but I have a soft spot for it. Gina Carano plays a badass spy for a private agency who slowly finds out she’s the target of a hit by her own company. She kicks ass for 90 minutes just to survive.
Carano is not the greatest actress & the plot gets incredibly convoluted when it doesn’t need to, but when the butt-kicking gets in full swing it’s a real thrill ride. It’s a relatively low-budget film but Soderbergh works with what he’s got, and the absence of any huge-budget effects grounds the whole thing in reality.
Haywire is the perfect title. It’s mad, chaotic, end-to-end fun.
It was cool and it was good for a one time watch. She did a great job in her fight scenes. Well thoughtout and precise decision making. I like that in an action movie. I don't like idiotic wild messes that make no realistic and logical sense. I enjoyed it. I must say.
pretty weak but gina looked great as always
So disappointing for a Soderbergh movie...
