Hidden 2009

Oscillating between tedious clichés, predictable jump scares and contrived mysterious Norwegian Hicksville with everything from overly rotten spooky house with overly mysterious textiles art pieces to overly hostile locals except that one overly friendly lady detective to overly weirdo hotel with the overly hot receptionist. My analytical mind exposes it as an arty ripoff, yet it manages to stay engaging, if only to figure out the reveal of what degree it is real or the psychotic delusions of the protagonist. Unfortunately it disappoints in the end with too many lost threads and the bombastic but cheesy finale and painful derivative coda.

Oh, and about that Nintendo Game & Watch that is featured multiple times in the first half and then dropped entirely. Why is it playing music that handhelds were capable of only ten plus years later? It's so stupid it resonates in my cringe bone.

Boring concept but the movie is executed so well that it doesn't matter. Really good acting and it has enough twists to be interesting throughout.
