Hotel Artemis is a nice movie, with an amazing cast. The story is easy to follow and you don't have to pay attention just let it all unravel before your eyes. Some nice twists here and there and good jokes and action. I loved Bautista in this he's becoming an amazing actor in diverse roles although I love him the most as Drax (when we see him XD)
That's a disappointment. No relevant story, everything is just hinted. A painfully slow buildup that isn't even rewarded by a great finale. Neither very funny nor much action. And what good is it to have those names if you give them dumb and useless characters ?
Music was cool, though.
Good but not great.. no real story, just a bunch of people in the hotel to get fixed up "off the books" and sent on their way. Kinda just meanders along without a real purpose with everything wrapped up into a perfect bow at the end. If you never get the chance to see this, don't fret - move on with your life and you won't have missed anything of any value.
It's a Netflix time-waster because there wasn't anything else on... 6/10
There's not a lot of depth to the characters here -- not even to the few who have a third dimension. Nonetheless, the main characters do a good job with what they're given. The plot is paper-thin, as well, giving the impression that no one wanted to let too much get in the way of the set pieces. Case in point: all of the buildup to the introduction of the Big Bad, who promptly drops a Big Secret before promptly expositioning it in all its simplicity and then promptly being killed. No twists, no turns, no red herrings, and certainly no time to ponder any deeper meaning to it all. On the bright side, I liked the mood/tone of the thing and the production values.
Hotel Artemis seems to have been billed as a hot action flick but in truth the action, kicking, stabbing and shooting really takes place in the final fifteen minutes or so with a character study build-up leading into it. Mainly a cartoonish set of boldly drawn characters but nonetheless the film-maker tries to give them interesting characteristics and back-stories. This partially fails and partially succeeds.
For instance I was interested in who they were enough to keep me watching but then I felt that they were very lightly sketched. Jodie Foster, very effective as ‘The Nurse’, is given the lions-share of background but the rest are given one-line lead-ins but not much else. Sofia Boutella, impressive as always in this type of role, is a top assassin who is very successful and she has to record her killing for her client, but that is it. Dave Bautista is huge orderly/minder but that is it. Take this away from the film and what really have is a light, not so fluffy, comic-book style story. The police officer played by Jenny Slate seems to have been a weird afterthought that lead nowhere – I just found the whole part of the story odd.
Overall the look is impressive with the slightly-future LA looking good, just scuzzy enough to be on the edge of riots and noirish Blade Runner look fitting in well. Also the future-tech whilst perhaps a bit too far ahead for ten years in the future was plausible.
All of the acting fitted in well with the type of story and film that Hotel Artemis was but as a whole, I couldn’t help something was missing. The run time at 94 minutes certainly did not outlive its welcome and I was happy to sit and watch from beginning to end but like many films I’ve watched over the years I would not go out of my way to watch it again and by the end of next week I’ll have forgotten most of it.
Which is a shame but Hotel Artemis could have been so much more than it was.
What the heck did I just watch? The plot was just as random as all the characters. The place has rules, with absolutely no consequences for breaking them. 3D printed guns don't come with bullets. The female assassin and the man-nurse had no reason to stay. They could have easily left in the same elevator. There was not one redeeming quality in this film. Music meh, plot uber-meh, dialogue: like it was written for morons, visual effects - I'm pretty sure the original terminator had better SFX.
1:04 WTF! Who wrote the screenplay? You raise your mask to expose your face, just to announce "three minutes"? What trash!
Really enjoyed this movie and the acting. Jodie is excellent as the Nurse.
A stay in the Hotel Artemis won't offer many good Trip Advisor reviews - the rooms were filthy - but as an outsider looking in, this is a hotel worth spying on. It's a bit rough around the edges, with a thin script and little depth, but the action and the actors are good, not least Jodie Foster who gives her usual decent performance.
Good performances by the actors, but a weak history. A movie that we'll soon forget we saw.
An assortment of characters staying in the criminal medical hotel with lead Jodie Foster running the special medical hotel. The story is clear and the rules are clear, but things start unraveling quickly into this chaotic action movie.
I love the characters in this movie, they are fantastic, I just was expecting something a little more and on the level of John Wick movies, but its a good action movie with a decent story line. It fell short of the John Wick movies.
Pushed play for background noise.. sucked in immediately...waaay better than expected
Near future milieu and strong lead performances compensate for a story that could have been more interesting. The character interactions, action sequences and strong pacing keep it bubbling along and worth seeking out. 7/10
An interesting premise and a great cast can't save this movie from being a bore. There's never any real reason to root for anyone and there is hardly any action to keep you entertained. I did enjoy seeing so many different pairings of the big cast. Jodie Foster and Dave Bautista should do another movie together. The few sci-fi elements were cool to see. I wish I liked it more than I actually did.
Welcome to Hotel Dystopia. You can check it out anytime you like, but you’ll never leave.

A lot of fun, particularly in the first half. The mystique and unique world of the hotel left a lot of questions, but the ending felt rushed and just sort of cut all of those mysteries off by killing everyone.
Still, I had fun, even if I wouldn't watch it again.
Not the best movie ever, quite predictable. Not very intelligent or special. Still enjoyed. Nice bunch of actors.
Aesthetically pleasing, but the narrative is predictable and clichéd
Hotel Artemis is a film which doesn't do a great deal wrong. However, it is also a film which doesn't do a great deal right. It just kind of hangs in mid-air, with clichéd characters acting in clichéd ways and having clichéd conversations. And then it ends. It's not actually about anything. It's also predictable, with precious little substance. It looks pretty though.

Soundtrack is good, but that’s it. Don’t waste yer time.
Obviously jodie foster was the head light but with an average performance.. it had some decent action, good set of actors but the plot and characters were a rush and lacking back stories and objectives and did get a little confusing and didn’t make any sense.
Great film, good concept, great cast, however the ending was anticlimax. But, still a decent watch.
Hotel Artemis reminds me of the safe hotel on John Wick.
I liked it. There were some parts that could have been a bit better but overall, I enjoyed the movie. I love anything Jodie Foster does.
WASN'T QUITE SURE WHAT TO MAKE OF THIS ONE GOING INTO IT, BUT WITH A STELLA CAST I THOUGHT I WOULD INVEST MY TIME WITH IT.
AND OH BOY BY THE END IT HAD WON ME OVER AND COMPLETELY GOT ME HOOKED.
THAT LAST 20MINS WAS AWESOME. ALL THESE FANTASTIC ACTORS AND ACTRESSES PLAY THERE PARTS SUPERBLY
(with what they had to work with). THE STORY WASN'T THAT CLEVER AND I HAD LITTLE INTEREST IN THE WEAK PLOT, BUT THE CHARACTERS WERE AWESOME AND DEFINITELY KEPT MY INTEREST, KUDOS TO DAVE,
GORDON FROM SUPERNATURAL AND THAT ASS KICKING BIRD, WELL SHE WAS JUST A
SCENE STEALER THROUGH AND THROUGH,
YES PLEASE THANK-YOU VERY MUCH.
NOT A BAD LITTLE FLICK INDEED AND YES I WOULD WATCH IT AGAIN, THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT IT AND SOMETHING THAT WOULDN'T NORMALLY HOLD MY INTEREST DID,
BUT IT DID AND FOR THAT I GIVE THIS MOVIE 8/10
most of that is for that last 20mins
For an "action" movie with a hell of a cast, there was surprisingly little action and barely any character development. If you took the hotel setting from John Wick and made an entire movie around what goes on during a day within its walls, but with bland, one-note characters, murky world-building, and a threadbare plot, this is what you get. How can you mess up a film with this spectacular cast and a setup that teases the potential for some great set pieces? Well, they somehow did.
'Hotel Artemis' is a good film, mostly thanks to the intriguing plot but also due to a few fine performances from its cast.
Jodie Foster leads as Nurse, she is fun in the role and is definitely the one that keeps everything moving in a positive manner. Dave Bautista plays his character, Everest, pretty perfectly, while Charlie Day's character is more interesting than what I've previously seen from him. I felt Sofia Boutella's Nice was underused for the majority, though she got some cool moments late on.
What holds this back is the way it's all glued together. I never felt attached to any of the aforementioned people or to the premise itself, I was basically just a spectator admiring as opposed to becoming invested. Some of the characters, despite the onscreen talent doing well, are undercooked, especially Waikiki; who is portrayed by Sterling K. Brown.
This film isn't as terrifically executed as it probably should be, but it still makes for solid viewing.
meh, some cool ideas over all garbage
I really liked this movie. Unlike others I didn't find the lack of an overarching plot to be a problem. I liked how the individual characters all connected in some way. Each had their own motivations and desires. I also liked the John Wick/Continental vibe I was getting (in fact, this could easily have been set in the same "world" without any problems).
John Wick started the places for murderers, good cast, good performances, good action
The climax isn't quite as pulse-pounding as some are probably expecting. But this near-future sci-fi thriller is a blast. I really dug it. Great cast, giving solid performances, very stylised aesthetic, and an awesome concept that I'd like to see further explored. I enjoyed being in this world.
This movie should be on everybody's watch list just for the cast: Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Zachary Quinto, Dave Bautista, Brian Tyree Henry, Jeff Goldblum, Charlie Day and Sofia Boutella. Wow.
The setting of this movie: We have a future dystopia, there is hardly any fresh water to drink for the people and the world is ruled and divided by companies and mob bosses. Technology and living standards have rapidly dropped (though due to us being in the future the technology is at least far beyond the things we would be capable right now). In this setting there's this independent hotel called Artemis that is led by a former nurse (portrayed by Jodie Foster) and her personal aid and bodyguard (Dave Bautista) as a private hospital. To being able to be treated you need to be a member of the hotel Artemis, make your monthly payments on time and follow the three important rules: You cannot be a cop, you are not allowed to carry any kind of weapon and as a patient you are in no way allowed to harm another patient.
However, on the day the movie plays all three rules get broken and hell breaks loose.
This movie, that is narrated primarily from the viewing point of the nurse, who is old and suffers from anxieties and phobias. Foster plays here believable as a slitary-eccentric scared person that knows her ways and who - in her element - is totally under control, but also totally looses it if things don't go according to plan. We learn a lot of things from her past and because of this really perfect portrayal you'll start to embosom her really fast, which makes this movie so captivating. The two other characters that really shine are the ones played by Brown and Boutella, because their roles are important - all the other characters, like Day, Goldblum or Quntio actually are only the supporting cast - they deliver as great performances as the main cast, but due to low screen time do not carry any weight. Once the story get's going, it will soon become violent and brutal, some of the scenes where so brutal that I was actually thinking this movie could get an FSK18 rating in Germany (still it didn't - jsut FSK16).
All in all it was pretty interesting, a captivating neo-noire crime drama in a sci-fi setting, with a great cast and for me, as a Jodie Foster fan, it was really nice seeing her on the big screen again, though she got really old, she still owns it!
Guter und auch interessante Anfang, schwächelt dann aber ab der Mitte
Great actor, good storyline, but then you going to check the oposite.

i will watch it because of the cast and story, but the plot it's just a copy of the hotel of the john wick saga

You could put Jodie Foster, Sofia Boutella, Jenny Slate and Zachary Quinto in an empty room for 2 hours doing nothing and I would watch it. Oh, wait...
But seriously, Hotel Artemis isn't a bad film though it tries very hard to be. The actors and decor are sublime and the directing is on point. Sadly, the film suffers from a lack of a plot. Sure, there are minor story arcs that are all wrapped up nicely by the end of the film, but there is no main storyline with a villain to defeat and challenges to overcome. The closest we get is Jeff Goldblum, but he's only on screen long enough to make us wonder why he's getting top billing for a cameo.
Hotel Artemis could've been worse if it had tried, but it also could've been so much better.
