I don't know the book so everything I comment on is sorely based on the (alternate) movie version.
And simply seen as a movie it was one heck of a dissapointment. First off, the whole scenery is wrong. Shiny cars and clean shops and only a slight bit of wild vegetation are not what I have in mind when I think about a time 3 years after an apocalypse. Then there is the story that seems to have no purpose. Althought it started out well and seemed interesting but that's it. It just seemed. Things are happening, the movie ends and I wonder what was the reason. I was actually wondering if I fell asleep and missed a part. Felt more like a pilot for a TV show. What's the point ? Sience can backfire ? That in trying to reverse the effects of the virus that made monsters of the few survivors Neville himself became a monster ? That's not only thin but a rather hollow morale. And the monster angle puts this in the realm of unbelievable. And my biggest issue: how on earth did Anna and Ethan get there in a car ? Manhattan is an Island, is it not ? All the bridges where destroyed and the tunnel flodded. And how do they leave ? Why is he legend ?
Ultimately this movie, for me, was a waste of time.
Also don't forget to read the book if you haven't, it has such a sombre ending!
This is a tension filled movie with a lot of leap-out-of-your-seat frights. It manages to be a scary and intense film with minimal gore. Will Smith is fantastic here and shows none of his "Independence Day" or "Bad Boys" overages. I had been apprehensive about his ability to portray Robert Neville having read Richard Matheson's great book also named "I Am Legend". The movie does largely base itself on this book and I enjoyed many of the movie's modern interpretations. However the ending differs greatly which is a letdown. I would have loved to see the book's ending executed here. The meaning of the title as potrayed in the movie is the most disappointing thing about it. It totally lacks the "Twilight Zone" like twist of the book. Overall though this is a terrific movie.
The first hour of this film is by far the strongest as Smith leads the audience through his day-to-day existence in an abandoned New York. It is a great set-up as the film gradually reveals both the central character's past and his intentions and there are some great tense sequences. It's a shame then that the introduction of other characters is the moment when the film become less interesting and the final hour devolves into rather generic action beats that are also let down by the decision to render the film's antagonists in CGI (which has also badly dated). It doesn't help that the alternate ending that is presented from the theatrical version is actually stronger, giving some additional context to the antagonists and filling in some plot holes. Quite a let-down when the film had started out so strongly, but it is still engaging enough.
"Legend" overall is one of the better movies of 2007 and a must see. Not Oscar-worthy by any stretch of the imagination, but it's certainly entertaining, realistically tense and maybe even thought provoking.
This is a 7... extra point with the alternative ending!
Good but not great !
It's a good movie, though I found the alternative ending a lot better than the theatrical one.
I didn't like the end but it's a good movie

FFS. The dude was living his best life, until that woman rocked up. Typical story.
Loved the movie. Very good storyline , amazing acting by will Smith. my only complaint is that they could have ended it better.
I give it a 7/10
A good sci-fi movie with a unique plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The special effects are decent, but what really sets this movie apart is the gripping storyline that follows the last man on earth after a virus wipes out most of humanity. Will Smith delivers a compelling performance that makes you feel the emotional weight of his isolation and desperation.
The "original" ending is trash, but luckily an alternate ending exists and will soon become canon.
This is the only comment I've left, it would've been an 8 if they didn't kill the dog.
i can't believe it took me this long to watch this movie i love will smith so much jfc
This was alright but just felt pretty basic in terms of storytelling. Having said that Will Smith's performance was captivating hence why I've rated this movie as high as I have. You also have to take into account the year it was released. It's pretty decent for what they would have had to work with back then.
ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE BY
MR SMITH AND IT'S DEFINITELY THE STRONGER AND BETTER PART OF THE MOVIE WHEN IT'S JUST
HIM AND SAMANTHA:heart:
A STRONG 7/10
FOR THE ALTERNATE VERSION
& TO SAY THERE ARE 3 possible one's with a 4th added
I'll let you decide which you
Prefer.
THE CGI IS GOD AWFULL AND HAS NOT AGED WELL AT ALL THE MOVIE IS INTERESTING ENOUGH TO KEEP YOU ENGAGED, DOESN'T OVER STAY IT'S WELCOME. THE ALTERNATE VERSION IS A MUCH MORE SUPERIOR
AND WELL ROUNDED MOVIE.
WITH A MUCH MORE MAKE SENSE ENDING. COULDN'T STAND THIS MOVIE BACK IN THE DAY, BUT OVER THE YEAR'S I'VE LEARNT TO APPRECIATE IT AND EVEN ENJOY IT ON MULTIPLE
PLAYTHROUGHS. WELL WORTH YOUR TIME CLOCKING IN AT UNDER 2H.
*An average movie that could have been great.*
Director Francis Lawrence has a way with suspense; jumping out of your seat is almost a requirement here. Onscreen, Manhattan transforms into a true island, isolated, removed, and falling apart. Weeds grow on the streets, Times Square is deserted, the Flatiron Building sits neglected, and an eerie hush has fallen. Bravo to the special effects crew, who have created a New York never seen before (except, perhaps, in Escape to New York). The results are nothing short of amazing.
But the story ultimately disappoints. It starts out strong, hooking viewers in, but it sputters in the end. It's as if the screenwriters (or director, or producer) ran out of ways to wrap it up. Or perhaps the film simply doesn't have the same nuances as the Richard Matheson book on which it's based. Still, you can't fault I Am Legend for trying to be different from the typical action thriller. Taking on such themes as mankind's need for companionship, the fight for survival, and the existence of God, it at least succeeds in making us think.
My Score 5/10.
Will Smith's films are great, this was epic for me. It's really worth it.
As with almost any literary adaptation, fans of the source material in search of a literal interpretation will probably find a lot to fault in this Will Smith vehicle, particularly in its neutered take on the story's conclusion. All of the original's deeper underlying meanings are still there, buried in the actions and expressions of the transfigured creatures Smith does his best to avoid, but without a big reveal to lay all the cards on the table they're too easily shrugged off or overlooked. That positions this as, basically, a hybrid summer blockbuster / suspense-laden monster movie with a better than usual premise. In this role it fares well - Smith portrays the terrifying isolation of the last sane man on Earth with passion and depth, leaving memories of his less-inspired earlier work far in the past. He's come a long way from Independence Day or even Hancock, and surprisingly little of that has the more stern-faced, serious script to thank.
Legend's computer effects are a different story: while exceptional at rendering an overgrown, deserted NYC skyline, they feel excessive and overwhelming when it come to the creatures themselves.
Though it may not live up to the lofty expectations of its namesake, this is hardly a complete write-off. In fact, as mass market action pictures go it's unusually smart, expertly paced and generally contemplative. A pity it didn't have the balls to stick with that original ending, though, as I think it would have been much more universally appreciated.
Will Smith is great. I wish there was more of him going around the empty city with his dog. I like this one better than The Omega Man.
I Am Legend is a fascinating and compelling thriller based on the work of visionary science-fiction writer Richard Matheson. The story follows scientist Robert Neville who attempts to discover a cure to a vampiric disease that has turned the majority of the human race into ravenous, bloodthirsty creatures. Will Smith delivers an astonishing performance, giving every scene a powerful and haunting resonance. And, the directing is also especially good in how it tells the story and captures the isolation and desperate conditions that Neville’s surrounded by. Full of suspense and intrigue, I Am Legend delivers a powerful and stunning sci-fi adventure.
Please give me a link where I can watch this movie,,I really want to watch this movie
If it wasn't for Will Smith's strong performance and the excellent dog trainers, this movie would fall through in all regards. The effects are laughable for its time and its budget. This could have been better.
The Good:
The Bad:
Verdict:
A dull, bland and pointless zombie horror that brings nothing new to the genre and never get going properly.
Me gudtsria una 2 parte
Nice and emotional movie with great directing and atmosphere and also great perfomance from Smith. It's not the best movie you can see today but if you want to entertain yourself for one and a half hour this is a good choice :) 7.2/10
I absolutely love Will Smith Stand Alone Acting.. But how can this be in the horror genre.. Nothing Scary about this film
Good movie, terrible ending. The second and third act of this movie aren't that good compared to the first one.
A virus kills 90% of humanity and turns 9% into zombies.
Enjoyable movie (though not like the book which I highly recommend).
If you get a chance, watch or re-watch the "alternate ending" version. It is much better.

There's no doubt that the alternative ending is WAY better than the original one.
