This is a list of all films (main feature, extra featurette, making of, box-set meta entry, etc if it has a separate entry on trakt) released under Criterion Collection catalog, Essential Art House, Eclipse, Merchant Ivory collections etc. as DVD/BluRay. So far LaserDisc releases have not been included.

Events such as the cultural revolution and the abolition of Hay's code contribute to the daring and more experimental nature of films of the 60s which were a prelude to what was to come in the 70s. 70s begins with worldwide major film movements. This period is considered to be the heyday of cinema with the release of many great films that would change the landscape forever.

The final top 20 take up the top 20 slots in this list, whilst the next 80 films are the last 80 films to be eliminated with film 21 being the last film to be eliminated, film 22 being the penultimate film to be eliminated and so on. The game started with over 1200 titles, so getting in to the final 100 is a real achievement."

These are some essential Italian neorealist movies, that you shoud watch. The movie titles are in chronological order, so it'll be easier for you, to explore the evolution of this movement
There are three movie directors, whom work can be labeled under the Italian modern film, but their early works has signs of neorealism too. These three are: Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini and Paolo Passolini (who has two movies in this list and the second one: Mamma Roma is dedicated to Roberto Rosselini).
The first two movies Ossesione (1943) and I bambini ci guardano (1944) has usually been categorized as “proto-neorealist" movies. The break-through in this movement came by Rosselini: Roma città aperta (1945)
Maybe Padre Padrone (Vittorio Taviani, Paolo Taviani, 1977) L'albero degli zoccoli (Ermanno Olmi, 1978)and Gomorrah (Matteo Garrone, 2008) are also can be part of this list, but I was trying to focus on that era when Italian neorealism was born, flourished and faded away.
