I can see it over and over again! One of the best movies I ever seen.
I liked the film but there are times where things are bit disjointed. Kind of a parallel spin on some of the concepts seen in the Matrix, but without the heft and the fullness of that story.
IVE FINALLY WATCHED THIS!!!! I think it's the movie that's been on my watchlist the longest. It definitely did not disappoint, I was entertained and captivated from start to finish, but those last 30 minutes were breath taking. Absolutely loved it.

Beyond both being movies by Christopher Nolan, I still think that Inception and Tenet have a lot in common. With Tenet being imho the better movie.
Actually I only rate Inception so highly for one specific scene, when Dom reveals when and where he gained his previous experience with inceptions. This kind of dramatic highlight is missing in Tenet.

My God, it's a boring movie!
I love this movie, so many layers (hehe) to it and the music is exceptional. Rewatching this with somebody who has never seen it before gives me so much pleasure.
Especially the vault scene, the airport scene and the reunion at the end are some of the best movie scenes but then so is the scene in the hotel room... Well I guess this whole movie is just incredible from beginning to end.
I was lucky enough to watch it in cinemas in 2010, knowing nothing about it. I regretted my choice for the first few confusing minutes but when the movie was over I couldn't stop thinking about it. I bought the DVD on release day for €20, it was one of the first blu-rays I ever bought and now I watched the 4K, life is beautiful.

An absolute special effects tour de force. It's just a shame the story's shit.
It starts with a man being found washed up on shore, but doesn't deal with that topic any more after the scene changes. It's about people doing things when they are sleep.
I really didn't understand why they are pulling out guns when they know they are in a dream world. Violent things happen all the time in dreams, but if you know you are dreaming why would you care?
And there is a part where the man is looking at multi-page secret documents while he is asleep. How is he going to get that information out of the dream? Does he have a brain printer?
I turned it off really early because I didn't like it. I can't understand why all the people in reviews are saying they watched it more than once.
Great movie but the concept was originally from an anime movie called Paprika 2006
Probably the most heavy handed and clumsy exposition I have ever seen in any film, but still really good despite it.
This is actually my 3rd viewing and each time it gets better as I unravel the layers and become more aware of where the characters are in the levels of dream. I will say that Ellen Page’s character is becoming more and more annoying which each viewing. Her constant vocalization of the worry she has about Cobb’s relationship with Mol is really unnecessary after the first couple of scenes. It would have been far more interesting to see her creating the architecture and merging that into the visual somehow, maybe showing her describing the design of the air duct system. Anyway, still an awesome movie, even on the third viewing.
extrem boring and over rated
There's a whole lot of coolness in Nolan's "Inception". Yes, it's a film that makes you pay close attention to the details because it's a bit like a puzzle you're putting together while you watch. I also think it's a film that you're supposed to like if you want to be considered a "smart" film watcher. So, at the risk of being tagged an "Inception" hater, I will say I liked this movie but for me it didn't live up to its pre and post release hype.
I've now seen it twice and do understand the story, but I just don't think dreams are all that interesting of a subject. Plus, some of the made up "dream-rules" bugged me. There are different lengths of time within levels of dreams. Really? And the clock time within dream levels is approximately the same? I also didn't know how they kept using the "dream machines" within the dream levels. And SPOILER...if the top keeps spinning then the entire film never touched reality? SPOILER OVER. Now that I've griped, there were some moments that I really enjoyed, like Gordon-Levitt's gravity-defying fights in the hotel halls and some of the visuals when architecting dream worlds.
My personal preferences make it hard for me to really like this movie as much as the majority does. I'd recommend it based on its stunning visuals and terrific direction. However, the sleepy dream worlds presented here were kind of a yawner for me.
The story is thrilling, the directing is impeccable, and the characters are well written. Really enjoyed all of it, and it stuck well enough to the rules it set for itself at the start. I certainly suggest you give it a watch, it's not this highly rated for nothing!
The Dark Knight may have been the film that catapulted Nolan into A-list status, but it was this film that made people sit up and take notice that the director was going to have a life beyond Batman. Rather than playing in someone else's world, Nolan has managed to create a fascinating world (or is it worlds ?) of his own. The concept of dreams vs reality has been explored before, but rarely to the effect that it is here. The cast are all great, particularly DiCaprio and Cotillard, but even more importantly is Nolan's script and the editing, which never lose the audience despite the competing narratives within the film and which leave you feeling completely satisfied even with the intentional ambiguity of the final shot. Indeed, the final hour of the film is one of the greatest sustained sequences committed to film, that keeps raising the stakes and Nolan's efforts to try and capture difficult sequences in-camera rather than using CGI is rewarded with stunning imagery as well as tense and exciting action beats. Hopefully a sign of things to come, not only from Nolan after his work on The Dark Knight Rises, but also from Hollywood blockbusters in the future.
I love Nolan, this film is one of his best, nearly on par with The Dark Knight.
Some people say this guy is overrated and overhyped, maybe there are right, the problem is no that Nolan films are incredible awesome, the thing is that if you compare then with the rest of the films of this kind they are simply superior.
Don't blame Nolan, blame the shitty films that make him look like nearly a god among humans in term of action/mistery movies.

I lasted 30 minutes and got really bored. The dialogue consisted of explanations to try and make the plot more complex and deep. I get it, it's layered, for the sake of it. Characters were also boring. The dreams were boring. The idea even got boring and whole movie is set around this idea. I didn't care about the characters at all. It's the worst type of smart movie because it's not smart. And the a wtf ending that's supposed to be mind blowing?
I am addicted to psych/thrillers, and Inception instantly hit my all-time favorites list. Just under The Matrix.

I think this movie is really good and I will most likely up my rating but to honest, it lost me for a bit. I followed it and just accepted it. I will watch it again as soon as I can and will adjust my rating as the experience changes.
Amazing! I love it because it's so real and it can go deeper and deeper into human conscience... A masterpiece!
I'm shocked that the American viewing audience liked this film as much as they did. After all, we're not a nation of deep thinkers when it comes to movies. I quite enjoyed the film. I loved how the audience had absolutely no idea what was going on for the 15 minutes of the film. I wasn't a fan of the "lowest level" but other than that I thought everything else was great (especially the ending).

Nice and entertaining, but not as good as the press wrote, in my opinion. The whole idea with the "synchronized kicks" is not as conclusive as I would like it to be: e.g. why had Ariadne to jump out of the window in the limbo-plane /-world when this was the deepest plane and a bullet to the head would have been sufficient and faster? Why couldn't they just kill themselves starting at the deepest plane to bring themselves back plane by plane?
But nonetheless Inception is a quiet enjoyable watch and features some great, perhaps even unique ideas.

I enjoyed this movie
I agree with the previous commentators. I had high expectations for the movie and surprised to find how straightforward the plot was, despite everyone claiming it to be 'complex.' They had an interesting idea but did absolutely nothing with it. The movie is basically a heist movie that takes place in 'dreams.' I was hoping they would explore the ideas of dreams more but nope, the dream world is almost identical to the real world with a few special effects.
The less said about the characters, the better. DiCaprio's background was not interesting at all, I couldn't have cared less about his torment. Ellen's character was basically a plot device to reveal DiCaprio's backstory, she had no personality of her own. In fact, none of the characters had any personality.
Overall, it was a decent action movie, that's all. It's not in the same league as Nolan's previous movies (Memento, Prestige, etc).
I had high expectations before watching this movie, so perhaps I ruined this movie for myself. But while watching it I was annoyed by the fact that the fairly straightforward story was presented as if it was very complex, the idea of 'what is real and what is imagined' that is the selling point of the movie was poorly executed in comparison to other movies like eXistenZ (or even ..dare I say.. the Matrix or Shutter Island) and on top of that I just couldn't care about any of the characters.
I love DiCaprio and Nolan and the idea of inception is really great, but the way they filmed it makes it just an ordinary action/heist-movie, with great visuals though. For a movie that relies so much on the story instead of the characters, I was disappointed by the depth of that story and the lack of twists and turns.
Watching it again after 11 years. At that time, my life did not become a dream, but a nightmare, within a nightmare, within another nightmare, within the first nightmare, which is myself. Maybe the output will be the same as in the film. Or at least I deserve a lot of kicks. Yes, humor to disguise my unhappiness.

To date the best film I have ever seen in my life. I still don't give it ten stars because I lack reasons and by "reasons" I mean seeing more films as good as this one to justify "Inception" being the best of the best. Fair, right?
Something that Nolan did not know how to do in "Batman Begins" was to maintain the protagonist's internal conflict, something that remains in place until the end of "Inception." Cobb is warned and tested by Ariadne so that he understands that has a problem and must solve it: let go of the memory of Mal and accept the blame for his death. It is only until the end, in limbo, where to see his children again he accepts his wound and grows. This is how you keep your viewers hooked until the tape ends.
The concept is also very creative and is executed masterfully. Book sagas could be written where the magical system is based on the whole question of dreams. The concept is taken to the extreme with things like inception and a dream within a dream. And with that same level of construction, Nolan manages to effortlessly explain the entire system he built without it feeling condescending or breaking the viewer's immersion.
"Inception" is the best Nolan film I've seen so far.

The original concepts that Christopher Nolan makes up for his movie are absolutely mesmerizing. I am awestruck by the world building alone. Then you mix in the story and themes and you got yourself a masterpiece to behold.

Still one of my favorite movies. So we'll done. one of the few Nolan films that I feel is exceptional. This is right up there with Memento.

I would like to start with an original idea which is really brilliant. The idea to make a film in which is the main point the reality X dreams needs balls.
I wont spoil anything but I would like to tell you that you will love every second of Di Caprio's performance. Actually he deserves an oscar for this brilliant performance.

"Inception" is a film Christopher Nolan had wanted to make for many years at the time of its creation. Understanding that he needed more experience to be able to pull it off, he ended up directing his first two highly-acclaimed Batman projects to understand the process of crafting such a massive movie. It paid off, as "Inception" is an ambitious release that has continued to receive praise ever since it came out.
The narrative revolves around exploring a person's subconscious through dreams, and it does a fantastic job at doing as much with this concept as it can. Thematically, it unfolds bit by bit, with Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of Cobb providing an enticing humanity that runs parallel to the fast-paced suspense. "Inception" doesn't waste a second and it requires a great deal of attention at times, but it fully rewards its viewers for sticking through.
Besides Cobb as the protagonist, I found myself attached to the rest of the cast as well, even those that did not receive substantial development. Interestingly, "Inception" functions as a heist film at its core, and each person plays a specific role that makes them stand out. Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy) was surprisingly interesting and I ended up caring for the conclusion to his arc. Marion Cotillard was excellent as Mal Cobb and played very well off DiCaprio.
The action in "Inception" is magnificient to watch, relying on its incredible special effects that are appropriately trippy and unconventional. Even a decade later, it stands the test of time and dare I say looks as modern as it did back then.
My major issue with "Inception" comes in its last act, where I believe it begins to come across as genuinely pretentious. It loses its grip of logic, moving from sci-fi into pure fantasy. The ending is decent, but I'm not certain it fully lives up to all of its potential.
I loved "Inception", I've never seen a film quite like it. It was genuinely a fascinating concept that I found to be brilliantly executed, even if it did fall apart a little by the end. A must-watch for Nolan fans and I'd highly recommend it to just about anybody else, especially science fiction and action fans. Just know it is anything but a casual watch, you'll want to take in everything you can from it!

The whole film is absolutely awesome. I've seen it several times (only twice here on Trakt) and it never ceases to fascinate me each time. I consider the best to be the final wake-up scene, which together with Zimmer's music is an absolute masterpiece!
If you think about the film a bit more with what happens to you while you sleep you will be consumed at the end by the fact that we still don't know everything about dreams.
I'll watch it again soon and it's a shame that films like this aren't being made these days.
"Inception" is a solid and extremely entertaining action film that is based on an interesting concept, which is something rare for this kind of blockbusters. However, it's nothing as deep or arthousey as Nolan wants us to think. Its biggest flaw is that it tries to do too many things at the same time without fully developing any of the ideas. Dom's backstory is beautifully told, but the role of their children, as well as the mystery behind Mal's death, felt a bit too rough and cliché. The dynamics and side-effects of the dreams are explained multiple times throughout the film, but some passages still felt forced or just rattled off by the writers. The running time could allow more focus on emotional depth as well as character development. Yet, a lot of is gets sacrificed by the addition of a lot of superfluous action scenes, like the neverending mountain fights or the chase in Kenya. These are probably used to make the film easier to digest for casual viewers, but added nothing to the plot nor felt visually appealing or particularly adrenaline-filled. The ending is left ambiguous not for real narrative necessities but just to avoid taking risks but still keep the talk going.
Don't misunderstand me: it's a fun and entertaining film that is masterfully shot, excellently acted, and even lets you think a bit. It just lacked the depth that such an ambitious concept needed and felt a bit overrated.

Interesting adventure movie, but even more than that it's the kind of movie that has left people with the capacity to talk about Xceptions as part of the public zeitgeist (poultryception in the case of the terducken) which far surpasses the movie elements.

I just rewatched this movie 10 years later and it is still a great movie, not a 10/10 as I previously rated, but pretty good.
Though the story is complicated, Nolan's making makes it convincing. Th film is completely gripping with intense background musics. Nolan can make anything possible with his writing and directing. In a nutshell, Inception is exceptional
Inception wonderfully brings out a fresh sci-fi idea with its cast of very talented actors (and The Leonardo Di Caprio). The gripping storyline, the wonderful timing, stunning acting and cinematography leads to one of the best movies of the decade.

No wonder, Nolan is a visionary for cinema !!
Christopher Nolan's winding, twisting dreamland epic is just as revelatory today as it was in the theater a few years ago. Nolan clearly took his time with this script, a full eight years in the making, and it bears gorgeous fruit in the form of a rich, bright analysis of lucid dreams, shared consciousness and the very roots of influence in an individual psyche. Those are some pretty heavy concepts to just toss around in a Hollywood blockbuster, but through careful elaboration and a few very stylish test cases, it manages to efficiently explain the ground rules and get on to telling the story without bucking the casuals or alienating the intellectuals.
With all sorts of hidden truths, cleverly-masked winks and subtle hints at deeper meanings, there's also much more here than can be absorbed in a single viewing. Although the run time falls well north of two hours, the groundwork is so enveloping - and the plot so fast-paced - that the minutes just rip by without any regard for the clock on your wall. It's a fantastic effort, and a great indication that large-scale, big-budget American filmmaking is still capable of bringing the goods from time to time.
Still a fantastic film with a super cast and great work from Christopher Nolan and second time around made it even better! XD

I haven't seen this movie in years, but after re-watching it struck me hard how depressing this was.
Putting aside the action sequences and loud music and a complicate plot, there's a beautiful story about a man trying to get back to his children, without it being cheesy. Well if you really break this movie at it's core, it's about two grieving men (Leo and Murphy), both haunted by the past until they have the strength to accept reality and let them go.
The 'Grow Old Together' scene stuck with me the most.
You can say whatever you want about Christopher Nolan, but his movies are never hollow. I'm also convince that Nolan would be the perfect choice to direct a James Bond movie.
Seriously, throughout the whole movie I was thinking "Man imagine the genius behind Inception directing a Bond movie". The ingredients are right there.

What a good movie, the only bad thing might be an overfocused plot. Leonardo DiCaprio is so damn great
Nutshell: A visually impressive spectacle with capable actors directed well, but without the depth or narrative honesty and intellectual effort required by the high concept premise.
Nonsarcastically, I give him full marks for night shots with a motif of "Black and Reflections".
I knew upon my initial (and last) viewing in the theater that I would have trouble making it through another viewing due to DiCaprio being the main character, and being a lying piece of shit trying to cover up his misdeeds, and being the entire reason for everyone being in danger the whole film, and this only coming out in the end of the film, not allowing for any outlet of frustration, let alone any apotheosis and the fact that the core premise of the conceit for the action is essentially "Hey, you know how this one thing would logically work this way, well it actually works THE OPPOSITE WAY!... Because... reasons."
Nolan's and his brother's later films really are what young boys and idiots find profound, but are indeed just pretentious, pseudointellectual, and narratively lazy.
I always pushed down my list this film, because I thought it was overrated or I just would like it. But oh damn, I loved it. The ending is so mother rucking sad. And the soundtrack oh god. 10 stars
This time around I pretty much scanned the movie. Found a handful of plot holes, mostly related to how subconsciousness works (i try not to watch those "Inception Explained" youtube vids). BUT, that being said, they are super well concealed within the plot, it gives you the feeling that "hey i will believe just that to let this amazing story flow".

Based on the flood of "____ception" memes that hit the 'net after this film came out, I expected… more.
As the cardinal rule of filmmaking says: "Show, don't tell." Inception does an awful lot of telling. It (or its characters) never shuts up.
I will grant this: The visuals are incredible. From Ariadne's first ventures into the role of architect (the street-bending is aces) all the way down to Limbo. It's really too bad the writing wasn't equally nuanced.
Admittedly, Inception doesn't have the worst info-dumps ever. I just watched an episode of The X-Files, "The Erlenmeyer Flask", that had a scientist piling basic DNA science onto Agent Scully (a medical doctor) for the benefit of viewers who hadn't gotten to the DNA chapter of biology class yet. Now that was bad. Inception isn't quite that blatant about its info-dumps, but they do exist.
Putting off writing this review by a few hours really let me get tired, so I'm not inclined to write as much. But, it's also taught me that the plot isn't particularly memorable. The basic idea is simple, and things play out pretty much exactly as expected (broadly speaking). The details aren't that interesting, and the only plot point that surprised me (Dom actually being "responsible" for Mal's suicide) wasn't worth the overly long build-up.
Oh, did I mention this movie is two and a half hours long? It's too much. (About 7 minutes of the 148 are devoted to credits, and can be skipped if you wish, but that's still a long film.) I checked the clock several times wondering just how much longer this ordeal would last. Fortunately the falling van gave me a decent point of reference, so I didn't have to check as often.
Mostly, I'm disappointed at the lack of substance. I expected some real profound shit, based on the hype. I didn't get it. Some people say you need to watch this film several times to get everything that's going on, but I don't think so. This is a one-and-done movie with some pretty action scenes and inconsistent treatment of its own mechanics. (Seriously, why do the gravitational effects from the van swerving around only penetrate one dream level?)
Movie puts you through new perspective and gets it only get more complex.

Tom hardy coming in clutch with the backward skiing in the third act.
Real edge of your seat action packed film with so many twists and turns.none more so than in the final 15 minutes of this Thriller.
