Inside 2007

One of the most brutal home invasion films and the second film I've seen this year that made me feel physical pain. The other one is obviously also French. It's shocking, depraved, unflinchingly brutal, in other words an essential Christmas viewing! The plot is quite simple but let’s be honest, this film is all about the gore and violence and it does them incredibly well. It gets super intense really quick and wastes no time with the relentless and unforgiving violence. And it's under 80 mins which is the perfect length for a gory horror film like this. If you're in the mood for a Christmas horror with lots of blood this is definitely for you.

Only a mentally ill person can make something like this, a film that lacks any logical plot, a film that has no normal story, just a bloody slaughterhouse accompanied by nonsensical scenes such as a policeman taking a detained person on a chain and going to the house with him. slaughterhouses take place and to make matters worse he puts a gun in his hand. Or that the girl makes a hole in her throat and seals it with duct tape. Only someone mentally ill can like something like that, the film has no plot, the story is simply nothing but blood. I understand it's horror blood belongs there, but it must have some plot, etc. This has nothing but blood that is interspersed with nonsensical scenes that are unreal and nonsensical. Definitely one of the worst horror movies I've seen, but the mentally ill may like it.

I watched Inside with English subtitles, truthfully I wasn't so impressed.. It was rather brutal, and some scenes were a complete gore fest, and it terms of mood it was definitely dark and depressing with the sense of dread. But it just never really had much to it plot wise, French movies definitely are unique but 'Inside' just was gore for gore's sake, rather than really trying to develop characters or create an intricate story line. It instead just went all out on the blood in hope to keep my attention.... sadly it didn't, so just a 'meh' for me, I was on my laptop throughout.

Pregnancy bloody nightmare!

This one has a lot of dumb decision making from the characters and the writer but the whole point to it all is the blood and gore. A disgusting, gratuitous, violent and unrelenting home invasion cat-and-mouse chase I won't soon forget. It's surrealistic and exagerated most of the time, just like it's practical effects which look amazing (a bit weird in some parts though especially when they use CGI). The kills are very violent and bloody but I could always predict them one scene ahead. Great setup, good acting, the tone was on point, lighting was perfect, lots of stupid cops and Béatrice Dalle stole the show. What a scary, crazy and demented villain. Knitting needles and scissors are definitely a trigger now. The last few minutes are on a whole other level, I couldn't help but look away...

Brief home invasion movie where a supervillain tries to extract a child from his mother’s body with a pair of scissors. Although it’s just gore for its own sake, I have to say I appreciated the overall dry tone and direction. Despite the slow start, things get pretty entertaining. Unfortunately, the Play Station 2 CGI baby scenes ended up ruining the atmosphere. There are also a couple of moments toward the end I’m not sure if they were meant to be purposely self-deprecating or just ended up being involuntarily ridiculous.
