It's an entertaining watch anyway. In the end, Dalton walks but lets enough clues for Detective Frazier to frame Case.
What bothers me and what I don't understand is the films message: Stealing from rich people isn't a crime? Blackmailing people is necessary? To be a good Detective isn't enough, one has to blackmail the right people to get promoted? Or what???
A solid movie, but felt so generic. Like I have seen it before without seeing it.
You can watch this movie in less than 5 minutes; just watch the previews then fast forward through to the end.
Great movie!I can't believe that it took me so long to watch it.
Compelling movie, very well acted throughout its entirety, though the ending was a bit of a letdown.
Spike Lee, pure entertainment. This is cinema.
Inside Man is an excellent witty heist film. The plot was brilliantly written and Washington and Owen's acting were both exceptional; in fact all the cast in this film were all phenomenal. Just after Clooney's Ocean's Eleven, Inside Man comes second as an all time favorite heist film on my list. This was a solid entertaining film from start to finish.
When Dalton Russell (Clive Owen) masterminds the perfect heist, detective Keith Frazier (Denzel Washington) is sent to negotiate a release of the hostages, all while a mysterious power broker Madeleine White (Jodie Foster) becomes involved at the request of the banks owner Arthur Case (Christopher Plummer).
I had a real good time with this one, but I do admit it could have been so much more. I'll start with the heist itself. The scenes inside the bank were easily the most enjoyable. This is mainly due to the fantastic Clive Owen. It was incredibly intense inside that bank and left you wondering what this is really about. I do have a lot of questions about the motives which is where a big problem of this movie lies. I loved Denzel's performance as the detective. Seeing him and Clive Owen go head to head to see who is the smarter of the two was a fun time.
The opening song in this movie "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from an Indian songwriter A. R. Rahman is simply amazing. I don't know what it is about the song, but it's so memorable for me, it's one of my favourite opening songs to a movie I can think of.
While I do like Jodie foster and Christopher Plummer, I think they are wonderful actors/actresses, their side of this story felt a little underwhelming and it slowed down the movie for me. It took away from what I thought was a really well thought out heist, despite some discrepancies that I am willing to look past. This and the use of the flash forward interviews is what stops it being a great movie for me. I am not sure what Spike Lee was trying to get across with those interviews and why he constructed the movie that way, but it tried to be more complex than it needed to be.
The big reveals this film was going for just missed the mark as they are just filled with some plot holes that are too hard to ignore. On a whole it was enjoyable and kept my attention throughout, but trying to be too complex lets it down slightly. 6/10.
A good heist movie has to have an immaculate plan slowly unveiled, smart writing, a killer cast, and heaps of style. And Inside Man has all of those in spades. Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Christopher Plummer, Jodie Foster, Chitwetel Ejiofor, Willem Dafoe. This cast hits every note given and then some, and so does the film itself. It'll make you laugh, leave you at the edge of you seat, have you gasp and ooh at a new twist or winkle, and leave you hollering as a plan comes together. It's easy to forget just how good Spike Lee can be even outside of his 'Important' movies, but Inside Man is a perfect reminder.
This is an unpopular opinion but this is my favourite Spike Lee movie by far, sometimes I feel his movies are really style over substance but Inside Man grips you from the first minutes and if you are someone who likes heist films then I promise you will not be disappointed.
Inside Man is a film about a bank robbery that is planned so perfectly that it will keep your attention the entire way through as you want to see what will happen to the robbers but also you want to see how the cops and other outsiders handle the bank robbery before, during and after. This movie has everything from strong performances from its star-studded cast to great action and so so much more.
I don't wanna say anymore, just please watch this movie and just get ready for a smart crime thriller that rivals great heist films like Heat.
Spike Lee’s most successful movie to date.
Denzel Washington was awesome!
Not sure why everyone is getting giddy over this flick. Sure it was cool that they break into a bank and get away with it using fake guns and a fake execution. To me the movie never answers the Why to a level I need. Sure the mean banker fella acquired some wealth in disgusting fashion during World War 2. But this Rabbi I am assuming funded the mission to reposses these items is any better off as man of God for doing the right thing to break into the bank and put these innocent people through this? Does he have a personal vendetta against the bank owner? Jodie Foster WHY? She is unbelievably talented but her character here just seems so out of place. I'm not sure what a "power broker" is but I sure don't picture it as someone who can walk up to every corporate official in the city of New York and call in a favor or seven. Very confused by her portrayal of the character or most likely the director's reason for doing this. And what is in the envelope? Why does everyone rate this so high
awesome movie. pay attention to what you are watching as the movie nears the climax. that's all I have to say to enjoy this movie.
Great actors, solid film
epic movie!! highly recommended. very unpredictable keeps you guessing all the time which is rare these days. got this on bluray.
"Respect is the ultimate currency."
I thought it was gripping and fresh but the conclusion that it was all for diamonds was disappointing.
This movie sucks. Never been a fan of Spike Lee
Inside Man is a unique heist movie that offers a clever and complex plot. Although I’m not a big fan of Spike Lee, the film is directed with skill and precision and weaves together the different threads of the story into a satisfying whole. Denzel Washington gives another outstanding performance, bringing depth to his character and making him both relatable and captivating to watch. While the ending of the film may not offer complete closure, it leaves room for imagination and interpretation.
An interesting structure and some unique directorial touches from Spike Lee elevate a pulpy genre film that could’ve very easily been generic. It’s no Dog Day Afternoon, but certainly entertaining and clever enough. I think you could cut/write out the Jodie Foster stuff and you’d probably have a tighter film. It also could’ve used stronger characters (this whole Robin Hood motivation for the main robber needed to be fleshed out), and there are some jabs taken at ethnic profiling that feel random. It feels like Lee wants to get to the heart of something deeper in regards to inequality, wealth and other socioeconomic issues, but he doesn’t know how to bring it home. Nevertheless, this is a fun watch with a lot of tension, a good score, some fantastic double dolly shots, and clever twists.
6.5/10

Interesting how Netflix can breath new life into an older movie. I don’t recall this movie back in 2006 so I’m guessing it wasn’t so popular. Either way, interesting premise. Would like to see the next part, the exposure and the downfall of the bank owner. Worth the watch.
Great movie... cat and mouse game between the bank robbers and the detectives. Great ending. 8.5/10
Denzel shows one of his best performances. Small plottwisting back and forth. Good and easy watch.
From director Spike Lee comes the smart and intense crime thriller Inside Man. When a group of bank robbers take hostages and lock themselves in a bank NYPD detective Keith Frazier is sent in to negotiate, but things soon take a strange turn when the bank’s owner calls in a specialist to negotiate privately with the robbers on his behalf. Starring Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film features an impressive cast that delivers some strong performances (particularly Clive Owen). And Lee too does a good job at heightening the tension and at setting a foreboding tone. Additionally, the script is especially well-written, particularly in how it sets up the heist and buildings intrigue by using flash-forwards of interviews with the hostage about what happened in the bank during the robbery. Dramatic and exciting, Inside Man is a fresh take on the heist genre.
Great movie, not the typical good guys vs bad guys storyline.
great movie. watch many times.
