Inu-Oh 2022

The animation style seemed to preview a good film initially, but it turned out to be a dull song concert instead.

Pretty decent movie with some good animation and music. While not really my cup of tea, I could really see why someone might love this film.

Rating: 3/5 - 75% - Worth Watching

A 14th-century rock opera about a blind biwa priest and a disfigured performer: yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds, but it's also just as spectacular as a psychedelic re-imagining of the history of the Genji & Heike Clans. There's a lot to unpack about expressionism and the power of storytelling, and it's certainly not without faults, but it's a damn good watch to bop your head along to nonetheless.

Inu-oh yeah!

Like when Grandma switches the radio to a kick-ass heavy metal station!

Inu-oh starts off as a uniquely animated Japanese tale about a young blind boy and his physically malformed friend on a quest for legends. Throughout the first act, I sat there thinking, "Hmm, yeah, ok, not bad. Is it a 6? A 7?"

And then the second act started and it was a 14th century shogun rock musical with banging tunes and I nearly fell out of my seat.

The beginning feels kind of drawn out (no pun intended) and the ending feels kind of rushed, the glorious middle section alone is worth the price of admission.
