Judas and the Black Messiah 2021

Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are slowly getting into that realm of actors where I will watch a movie just to see their performance because I know it will be brilliant.

The director's admiration for Fred Hampton makes him a flat character, built from his speeches but without depth. More interesting is William O'Neal, turned into a Judas who betrayed for some coins, and whose transformation is accurately represented. Judas ends up being a believer, but despite that he remains a traitor. It is a correct approximation to a troubled time, but also a confirmation that not many things have changed.

This movie was necessary to give people a glimpse into the life of Chairman Fred Hampton as well as the Black Panther Party. I liked hearing that Fred Hampton Jr. was on set every day to see this project actually happen.

I just wanted to write a quick comment on this film. I think it’s really really great. It has stellar performances by the two leads and tells a great story that had to be told, watch it if you can!

So the Black Panthers were good people who gave breakfast to children and wanted to build a hospital.

I am consistently amazed at the racism inherent in our society, especially from those who are given the power to wield justice over us. It’s little wonder people like Fred Hampton rise up to up to take a stand. We are all human dammit, no matter our skin colour. What is wrong with those people who discriminate? What are they scared of? It’s maddening but thank goodness for films like this one that bring injustices to light.

We Educate. We Nurture. We Feed, And We Lobby. Perhaps We're Here For More Than Just War With These Bodies.

Fabulous performances. There is a larger story here somewhere which would have been great to examine but overall a tense character driven piece with excellent central performances and a moving finale. Sad to see how little has changed in 50 years...

Blown away...power in the message, heart in the story.

Thought it was draggy in parts. The last 30-45 minutes were pretty good. Controversial figure that I didnt know a lot about. Glad the movie was made because I learned about him.

A whole lot more formulaic than I remember. Some undeniably key scenes here, probably thanks to the acting more than anything else (Daniel Kaluuya is excellent), but overall not actually that good a film which is weird since I remembered it as a brilliant one. I'm just so bored of biopics that almost smugly add nothing to the medium of film.

Spike Lee watching this and saying "F#ck, I wish I made this movie!"
In all seriousness, the ending sent shivers down my spine.

Why is it that people feels proud of their violence and repulsive actions? Judas and the Black Messiah is another film that portrays once again the low tricks of white trash from USA government against black people. The acting is very good, however none of them outstands. The music at some moments connects really good with the scenes that accompanies.

This is a powerful movie, stunning in the fact that it depicts a period of American history, seldom told. The script is tight. The performances are engaging. The story is transforming. Nominated for 6 Oscars (2021). I give this film a 10 (powerful) out of 10. [Drama, History]

This is a masterpiece that will be remembered for years to come and will definitely be a cult classic.

I wanted to type more but I have no words to describe how good this movie is, my review would definitely not do it justice.

It is definitely worth a watch and easily rewatchable

That was a powerful film! Two great performances by Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya! Daniel Kaluuya, in particular, was amazing as Fred Hampton. He really captured the right attitude and energy. The speech scene was sensational! I highly recommend. Side note: Martin Sheen looked creepy as hell, as J. Edgar Hoover!

I didn’t know much about Fred Hampton, and was completely unaware of the existence of Bill O’Neal so this was definitely a story that needed to be told. Would love to see a film purely centred around Fred and how, at just 21, he became such a proliferate leader.

Judas And The Black Messiah successfully followed the biopic formula to deliver a passionate depiction of real life fight and betrayal. The highlights are the boldness of its unapologetic socialist approach and Daniel Kaluuya being absolutely brilliant once again (Lakeith Stanfield is great too).

This is the movie Spike Lee has been trying to achieve for years while repeatedly failing.

Great acting, love Stanfield since Atlanta, great script and a feast for the eyes but it's a bit long with some parts that get a little boring.

Out of the predicted nominees this is my winner since I doubt they'll let a foreign movie (Minari) win again.
