Fantastic film, it never seems to get old...

Entertaining action flick with some out-dated SFX and a decent plot.

Part of my 2022 Sci-Fi Tuesdays

First, whoever cast Rob Schneider in this movie should be banned from the movie business forever.

Second, Dredd does NOT take off his helmet...EVER. I guess Stallone's ego got the better of the source material.

Third, well…there is no third point to make, really. I just wanted three points.

However...there are some redeeming factors as well. One is that the story is actually ok if you can ignore the points above. One other is the fact that Diane Lane graces us with her ever so lovely presence. There's also the fact that you get a showdown in the freakin' Statue of Liberty.

Is Judge Dredd a good movie? Not really, but it is watchable if you can look past the severe flaws mentioned above.

A staged fantasy superhero action movie based on the comic book of the same name in the 2000 AD universe. Where the action of the picture unfolds in a dystopian future, the population of the Earth is concentrated in several large metropolitan areas. Law enforcement agencies are no longer able to properly protect cities from intruders. Therefore, it was decided to organize a special unit, whose members can administer justice themselves - nicknamed judges, they rid the world of criminals. The acting is not bad, sometimes, however, goes too far and looks inappropriate. The plot unfolds gradually, and at first the film looks very good. However, in the middle some kind of running around begins, dullness and sometimes comes to uncertainty. The picture is saturated with the cliche of the genre, which is sometimes superfluous, and in order to somehow look for children, the film included senseless comicity in some scenes, although it would be better not to add it. A soapy picture of the future and a rather poor understanding of the plot elements - the story turns into a raw mass that could be shown to the teenagers of those years as much as possible.

Standard dodgy fare for the mid-90s... Weak story, weak script, under-budget CG and a huge star vehicle.

It's not terrible. It's just familiar. Like Tango & Cash without Kurt Russell's wise cracks anhd with robots.

The supporting cast have very little to work with as the script is very pedestrian. And the casting of Stallone makes sense following Demolition Man and his relationship rwith the producers... but he's phoning it in here for the most part.

6/10

All these years, I never got around to watching this until today. I should've done it a lot sooner.
I used to see a lot of ads for this Judge Dredd starr. Sylvester Stallone, especially for the video game, in game magazines. After seeing the film today, I gotta say I really liked the cinematography and directing style. It's got a futuristic, Blade Runner-esque setting. Though, I know it was based on a comic book series, I was expecting it to be a lot more bloody and violent as like the original ROBOCOP film. I was also expecting the famous quote shared between the two franchises, "Come quietly, or there will be... trouble!"
I don't know. Maybe the cut I saw was not the entire thing, as if it was censored for TV or something. The music score is very high quality, and reminds me of the Total Recall soundtrack for some reason, but more uplifting, less "weighty". Then of course, I recognized The Cure during the end credits before even getting to the music credits.

"I am the law"

I used to think this movie was badass as a kid. Decades later and I can say that I was delusional. If I have to watch a movie about the future made in the 90's, I rather watch Demolition Man.

Well, it is not the best but it is not the worst movie. Some rat ppl said is a bad one, but again, they believe practical effects are worst than CGI. A movie not for everyone. But at least you get some fun. Sly a one of the Last true man. Now kids doubt about pee sit or stand. We Will live dark days.

I started reading 2000AD in my early teens, I wasn't one of those who read cover to cover but primarily Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper & Bad Company. I was excited when I first heard of it being made into a film, but not so much when I saw Stallone was playing Dredd.

However after watching it I thought He was the right person for the role Jawline, physique (fortunatly DREDD in the comics says very few words so Stallone's Acting ability is overlooked) I can't think of an actor of the time who would have fitted the uniform better.

Props: Lawmaster prety accurate, Lawgiver not so much Uniform reasonably accurate.
CGI: passable for it's time
Soundtrack: Ok

On the whole a fairly satisfatory interpretation.

HE TOOK OFF HIS HELMET ! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
