Judgment at Nuremberg 1961

One of the best movies I have ever watched. Burt Lancaster stole the show with an absolutely stellar performance as counsel for the defense. There are several philosophical questions this movie forces the viewer to think about. well worth the watch

This movie is well made and interesting from a historical perspective, but mostly, I struggled with the long runtime. I can see why (more patient) people adore this movie. For me, the scenes in between the courtroom sessions gave too little relief for the new heavy dialogue coming my way. Honestly, I was kind of exhausted after watching this.

I don’t even know where to begin to sing the praises of this movie. Nominated for 11 Oscars (1961), winner of Best Performance by an Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay, the message of this movie is more important in 2023 than, perhaps, it was in its day, with our current global rise in Nationalism, the fall in personal accountability and the despair that paralyzes our social conscience. The performances are stellar (4 Oscar nods just for the cast), a golden age of actors at their best (plus a very young and handsome William Shatner). I give this film a 10 (monumental) out of 10. A society where everyone commits crimes does not mean that you have to commit crimes.
