I felt like they could've dove so much deeper with this story. The ending was also kind of disappointing. The best part of the movie was Gina Rodriguez, she brought some much needed energy
Coming of age stories are usually a slam dunk with me. I'm generally pretty forgiving of anything in the genre, but Kajillionaire dove a bit too far into the "quirky for the sole purpose of being weird" end of the pool. There were some great individual moments here and there, but not enough to make me love this. That and the final "heist" drove me nuts simply because there is no conceivable way it could have been completed in the silence needed to do it.
[FF Gent] It approaches human relationships with a sense of humor, with a sense of extravagance. The protagonist is devoid of parental affection, but at the same time is addicted to her parents. This contradictory feeling are the basis of the main story. But it is also a story of emotional abuse, a cruel portrait of a society that takes advantage of the citizens, a pessimistic view of the human being.
The best thing about this movie is Gina Rodriguez. Man, she's so fn hot. The worst? Eva Rachel Wood's forced deep voice. Annoying.
A weird movie on its premise but i liked it , it has a charm to it
Evan Rachel Wood's performance is heartwarming
Wow, just wow...
If you've ever watched 2016's Captain Fantastic and thought: "hmm, what if there was a more depressing/neurotic/abusive version of that?", then you're in luck.
Thought it was gonna be like Little Miss Sunshine in the beginning...
I have long been a fan of Miranda July's movies (particularly Me and You and Everyone We Know and Madeline's Madeline) and I had been looking forward to this movie since it was announced. Thankfully it didn't disappoint. As per usual July cooks up a fascinating character study. Early in the film we meet a family (two parents and a daughter in her 20's) of small-time crooks. The family lives in an office next to some kind of factory and they are very late on the rent. What is more striking is that the family has harsh views (usually expressed by the parents) on people and life. They are fearful of becoming like other... normal?... people and live their life in a rigid, loveless and seemingly joyless manner to avoid becoming someone else.
Through it all you can see the daughter start to crack. The introduction of another woman into the movie begins to convert the story that felt cold and dark into something with some light. The film really spoke to me personally as I was raised in a household without love and affection. At different points in my life I felt like the daughter did when she opened the door that morning. The final scene is perfect on so many levels.
It is interesting to see that on RottenTomatoes.com the audience rating is half of what the critical rating is. I noticed the same for several of her movies. I think July's work is so unique that I think that a lot of people just don't understand what she is going for.

this is a film for those who were raised as children to achieve and nothing else, raised with little to no love, constantly pressured. this is the only film that almost brought me to tears
This is a very sweet coming-of-age movie. It is a very charming movie with a lot of heart about a not-so-successful grifter-con-artist family and a frustrated, disheartened daughter who finds love for the first time.
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Quite brilliantly portrays the direct yet abstract ways that unqualified selfish people can maim those closest to them. Furthermore, the simplest of kind words at the right time can be the catalyst that breaks the pattern.
Que? Very strange - just never really went anywhere. Than they figured we need some action at the end.....
I'm pretty convinced that the year's of COVID people had some sort of weird reaction on movies, they thought they were good.
My main expression while watching the movie was "What the F was that?"
Maybe the most boring, awful , pointless nothing to see waste of my life movie i have seen.
And i'm reading the comments and find high praise and high ratings and i'm very concern for the people and there mental health.
I notice this on other movies on the COVID era that there were worst but people said "fantastic thinkable movie", "artistic you cannot understand it you are stupid"
no the movie was stupid from the beginning to the end.
The only reason i didn't turn it off was how hot Gina Rodriguez was.
Like the rest of us, Miranda July obviously had Parasite and The Handmaiden on loop these last few years ;)
I liked it but it was a little confusing at times. Perhaps I overlooked lines of dialogue or something but some of the scenes seemed to happen without any forward explanation. The movie was still good but for me, it was a little loose around the edges.
It's adorable. They throw in some really fun scenes so the characters can breath. Cute little movie.
Evan Rachel Wood's voice is so deep lmao

Kajillionaire is a dead frog and Gina Rodriguez is the electricity that makes it come to life and keeps it jumping.
