Kill the Irishman 2011

6.5/10

It's not bad, it's just that there's nothing to separate it from every other Irish-American gangster movie there's ever been made. In fact you'll probably misremember lots of plots, stories and outcomes of this and them.

With its riveting plot, powerful performances, and a compelling true story at its core, this film delivers in multiple ways. The narrative is fast-paced and filled with twists, showcasing the struggle for power and survival in the ruthless underworld. Christopher Walken delivers yet another outstanding performance along with an ensemble cast who each bring their own strengths to the story. What makes Kill the Irishman stand out as a gangster movie is its authentic depiction of the era and the sense of realism it conveys.

Kill the Irishman is an interesting drama about the mob wars in Chicago during the 1970s. The story follows the life of Danny Greene as he rises through the longshoremen union and starts his own crime syndicate. Ray Stevenson and Vincent D’Onofrio give strong performances, and have a solid supporting cast that includes Val Kilmer and Christopher Walken. At times the plot gets a bit confusing and drags as it goes through the ups and downs of Danny Greene’s mobster life. Yet despite its problems, Kill the Irishman a fascinating story about organized crime in Chicago.

Certainly not the most amazing mob film.. but worth the watch simply for the fact that it's such an outrageous story.

This film was surprisingly enjoyable. There really wasn't much that was breaking new ground. It was just fun and interesting. The acting was good even when the script was a little iffy. To be honest, I thought it was better than The Departed.

Kill the Irishman is a remake of Black Mass, just it was made first.
