The L.A. riots of 1991 deserve so much better than this Purge clone. It doesn't bode well for the director when the actual news footage is the best part of this film. Rewatch Detroit instead.
Aside from some Daniel Craig heroics on a lamppost, this is an effective microcosm of one family's life during the Rodney King riots. As ever, the film will evoke fury in those who are tired of police and law court injustices.
